Today I switched over my other Ebay account over from PayPal to eBay’s Managed Payments program. In this video I discuss a few things all Ebay servers should consider as we get closer to launch date.

Thank You for your informative video. I've been a casual E-Bay buyer/seller for 17 years. I do NOT trust E-Bay well enough to give them access to my bank account; and they're trying to force it; so my E-Bay selling is DONE. I've noticed recently they are also reducing the effect of negative reviews. For example: I recently had a "non-paying bidder" on a $400 auction. My item was tied up for a month, while the bidder failed to respond at all. At the end of the "resolution" process I was blocked from leaving feedback. The result is the non-paying/non-responding bidder has a 100% approval rating.

You would have only would have been able to leave the buyer a positive feedback so it wasn’t a big loss. I’m sorry you had to wait so long. You might want to look at Mercari as an alternative. Good luck.

@@kiramatzu they need to fix the biggest scam on there. I've had it happen to me numerous. The ebay return guarantee policy for items "not as described" is bullshit. I sold some computer parts that were very expensive. The buyer opened a not as described case and Ebay approved the return and the buyer sent me a box of trash and kept my stuff. I had no returns selected and in the description. I've even recorded myself opening other return scams to try to show ebay to help my case of what's going on. They dont bother to hear or see what's going on with this. They side with the buyer because it's their policy. So they are helping thiefs get away with stealing your stuff. So I've stopped selling on this bullshit site. It sucks ebay used to be a good site to make some cash. You are supposed to be happy when you sell something, not worried about if your going to be took advantage of. I shouldn't feel sick when something sells. Graphics cards are very expensive just to give away due to a selfish policy

$1000 dollars a week in sales I WISH , as i only manage to sell a few things over a month only. This New Ebay payments system just stinks, you should have the choice of what payment you take and pay from , be it PayPal - Debit Card - Credit Card or whatever payment system it should be our choice. Not be dictated to like this, i love my PayPal and most shops and companies take PayPal too

I’ve been an eBay seller since 1998 and just may well be done with them, since I generally only deal in antiques. Thanks for this video, good info, as I’ve taken a long break from selling and just returned to deal with all this and managed payments. Quick question/comment: why would anyone ship an item out prior to having the actual money in there possession? Everything I’ve read on eBay says the steps are #1 ship item. *shrugs* seems very sketchy to me….

Another difference between PayPal and eBay managed payments: While you could deposit your funds from PayPal 7 days a week into your bank account, eBay will only make 5 deposits a week, assuming you have signed up for daily deposits.

The problem is that ebay is holding up the sellers money up to 5 days. To draw interest off the sellers money, which goes back to ebay. $1 of 3,000,000 sellers is $3,000,000 they can hold to draw interest.

Am I don’t know the “truth” but eBay states in their policy page they do not draw interest off of these funds. The delay of processing the payment is caused by the buyers bank.

Also you could usually find a buyers telephone number on Paypal to contact them personally if there was a problem with a sale but now you have to rely on the buyer seeing and responding to an Ebay message. Frustrating...

Bottom line now we will have to wait a few days to get our money from ebay while the transfer to your bank is completed. I dont mind the paypal fees I get my money instantly ebay just wants to muscle in and control our money so they can use it to make more money through interest like from an interest bearing account. Amazon does the same thing it sucks.

Set up a free checking account that you can use for this purpose. It will work in a similar fashion.

Hello....I have been restricted to sell on Ebay in 2014.....Back then the Seller Dashboard was introduced and at first I didnt understand it..and didnt pay much attention to it...I had been a seller for 10 years and had over 8000 positives so I underestimated the seller dashboard.....So had 6 cases opened in 2 months (late shipments)..All items eventually arrived but PAM !...Ebay didnt let me list any more items...I can buy but cant list....I phoned and wrote to them 2 years in a row..and was always denied the chance to list again.....Maybe I didnt have solid argument.....I just said items where delayed in customs (most whent to Germany) and these buyers opened the claims and shattered my Seller dashboard. So maybe you that have a lot information and experience in eBay.....how could I be able to go back to list in ebay ??....Would you have any suggestions, tips or advise you could give me ??...I will be writing another message once again ...and will definetly need some all the help posible to see if they will allow me to sell again... Try sending a message to “eBay For Business” on Facebook. Tell them your situation and maybe even tell them you realize what you did wrong and have learned from it. See if they can reinstate your account. Aside from that maybe starting up a new sellers account. Good luck.

Debbie Alvarez this is correct. As I have said many times, it is eBay’s game and their rules. The only choice we have is to play. While I certainly don’t like these rules, I haven’t found a better site to sell my stuff which is why I’m still playing their game.

Doesn’t sound that bad to me. No more third party fees and you can select payment schedule. Other youtubers are saying they got paid next day. To pay for refunds or shipping labels it comes out of your eBay balance and if you have no funds on ebay then you can pay out of your bank account. People are complaining about giving an ssn # and bank info but gave it to PayPal?

It SUCKS. I get paid, eBay holds the money for 3 days and THEN says it's transferring payments to my bank which takes 2-4 BUSINESS DAYS!!! WHAT THE HELL??? With PayPal I could send a payment straight through to my bank the SAME DAY!! With Covid, some of us need the money ASAP. This is ridiculous.

This was helpful regarding the monthly Bill and if you don’t have enough in your account....but Amy question is how would that work exactly? eBay Covers the amount? And then I would pay back to bay? I have overdraft protection at Least, but it’s a new account so I’m not sure if they would still charge me some type of fee for doing that. I believe They do. That’s my issue. So if get a fee from my bank and I also pay back - that’s an extra amount of money paid due to this that I did not have before. I don’t plan to be in that situation but you see my point. However I still have my original bank account and PayPal that I can work off of. This is getting ridiculous now I’m having like three different accounts and one of them primarily is my personal one that I pay my bills with at home and then the PayPal and this newer one I use for eBay and whatever else I am doing and shipping etc. I believe that the new account also I’m not sure but I think they also would turn to my personal account if there’s not enough funds in there so overall I may be OK with eBay in that manner although I’ll still have an issue with my banks. Just had an email about this (ebay uk) and naively opted in without doing research (sounds like it would be forced upon me soon anyway though). Had issues with paypal and never found it perfect but in this instance its the much lesser of 2 evils. Out of principle I will never give my bank account details to anyone. This paired with the whole limited power of attorney situation with trustly, I wont be selling anymore on ebay. Whilst I am aware they wont even notice Im gone, I can see many sellers doing the same. Its going to hurt them down the line.

I am small fry in comparison to your ebay profile to be honest. However, I have enjoyed the ride selling about 500 items just as a private seller over the past 7 years. All good things must come to an end. But like you, I always managed to maintain 100% feedback as I did everything I could to offer a good service and maintain a complaint free account. It all seems rather futile now but I have no regret. If you find a suitable alternative to ebay, let me know! As it was clothes I was selling, I will be using Hardly Ever Worn It (HEWI) from now on. As far as ebay providing info to the IRS and you getting a 1099, what if you selling personal items, that have been yours, bought paid with tax years ago. How is this differentiated, you cant be expected to pay tax on personal items sold ?

This is just part of a greater decoupling of eBay and PayPal as they have been separate companies for several years now. The majority of the public does not know this, however, and more notices throughout eBay would be beneficial for everyone.

Just watched another video on this topic and the gentleman said that the reason we have to give our Social Security number is because the government is now going to make us pay taxes on all income from Ebay. For that reason he said he was done with them. You say this is only true if we make above a certain amount. I hope you are right.

My problem with eBay pay management is at the beginning (being the noob that I am) I entered the wrong account info. But this is my thing shouldn’t they check if that account or that number to that account exist first before setting it in the system? Did you miss the deadline date that ebay gave you to set up your Managed Payments account. if you miss this deadline, you will not be able to list new items until this has been resolved. Reach out to ebay and ask for the Managed Payments team so they can tell you what you need to do.

Actually you are NOT correct that PayPal does NOT freeze "Return" money. They absolutely do, immediately. Once an eBay Return is initiated PayPal has Always immediately Reduced that mount right from your PayPal account. And if you don't have enough funds PayPal puts your account into the Negative.

Kevin Conway not in all cases. I know this as my last return on my other store did not withhold funds from my account until I actually received the return and initiated the refund. From what I understand it depends on your PayPal account status and/or how the return was classified by the buyer. An item not as described will be held every time by PayPal.

Mercari or Poshmark more than likely. However if you are selling personal belongings and not reselling as a business, it would be tough to surpass the thresholds to make it a taxable event.

You know they tax is making it, spending it, saving it and selling it. So would 250,000.00 in Sportscards raise some eyebrows in the Tax Man’s office? Now we start adding in old case pocket knife collections, antiques, Guns, Traps, Brother have you ever been to rural Alaska and seen some of our places? Let me tell you most places up here are small mini malls of about everything under the sun because up here it’s so hard to get anything so when you Barter and wheel and deal you wind up with 1-2 things you can use now and 15 you have no clue if you’ll ever use them but you damn sure know someone is going to be needing them soon enough and that’s when a 10.00 2” shark bite fitting is worth 250.00 to the man and that’s just the way life is up here. Now naturally I didn’t go get a Tax ID and purchase through a distributor or wholesaler but I would be hard pressed to see how I would not be flagged the first 6 months of listing auctions for sale. You know I was just thinking I’m in a world of hurt already and I should’ve been selling all this stuff years ago because it’s looking like a MAJOR undertaking that I could sure use about 3-4 full time people! 😂 I actually thought about selling the property residence and all the belongings as is on EBay but I don’t think they let y’all do that anymore I heard that anyways? Sure would be nice to walk out one day with a wire transfer to the Cayman Islands you know? 😂

I have been on managed payments since middle of august and so far I have found it to be fine. If you are worried about left and right returns you need to check how you run your business. Now and before with paypal I had to deal with maybe one or 2 returns a year and honestly with hundreds of transactions it isn't a big deal. If you do everything honestly you should not be having a ton of returns. Someone said people won't have to return the item, not true. Ebay may withhold the funds but the buyer still has to ship the item back and you receive the item back. From a person with 100% positive feedback who is honest and clear in my listings I see this as much easier and I like not having the huge bill on the 15th. My only question is is the $20k for the 1099 going to be based off of your paypal payments and managed payments combined? Like lets say you had $10,000 in sales with paypal and then were switched to managed payments, is that 20k threshold started over at $0? or will they combine the two somehow. As of right now I will not get a 1099 from paypal as I see it, and I doubt I will make 20k under managed payments by years end so does that mean I will not get any 1099 this year? Any info on this would be helpful.

Jonathan Manley your returns are very much based on the kind of items you sell. I sell electronics and have not only received my fair share of returns but also a few where the customer has kept the item I sent only to receive their old broken item. I have also sold safe non expensive items resulting in no returns at all. Bottom line, you can be as honest as you want and if you encounter a buyer who is up to no good, it can happen to you too. Keep in mind the $20 is for each payment professor. eBay MP and PayPal do not share these records. This is exactly what happened to me last year except due to my sales I received a separate 1099 from each one.

Have never as far as I can recall had any scam issues (maybe early 2000's when cash and money orders were still allowed), a few returns here and there yes but nothing that wasn't managable. It's rather confusing, so they are essentially paying E-bay not me directly? Well I made under 20 with Paypal before MP started in August so I guess my only 1099 would be from ebay MP which in my sales volume will be unlikely.

Jonathan Manley no. That’s not what I’m trying to say. PayPal and eBay MP are separate payment processors and do not share information. If on either you have over $20k in sales and over 200 transactions with either MP or PayPal you will get a 1099. If you made $10k while using PayPal and $10k while using MP, you will not receive one. In either case you are required to report these sales when you are doing taxes.

Good Information so far. I have one little confusion here. For explain if I Register eBay's Managed Payments now, So should I still able to use my PayPal account and my money will be stay into my PayPal account for online shopping? Cause usually I have lot shopping online and I always use PayPal, wherever its' say PayPal payment I use my PayPal account. If I'm forced to accept credit cards for payment, then am I obligated to the card company fees? I have only accepted Paypal as a form of payment for my individual sales (I'm not a business). I don't want to mess with credit cards or with international payments. Can I restrict my managed payments to not accept credit cards and no international sales?

No way to restrict payment types. I believe eBay handles these fees on their end and those fees are built into the fees we are paying them.

So what gets transfered to my account as payout? I switched last week and I have Pending Funds and Available funds. Does anyone know how long it takes for the pending funds to become available funds? I have been told it depends on the funding source from the buyer. So one credit card company may take longer for ebay to obtain the funds from than another bank. When you buy and item at a store, you will notice on your online statement the charge is "pending". While you get to take that item, the card processor the store uses doesnt send the money to that store for a few business days since it is never an instantaneous process. We were spoiled with Paypal as they fronted us the money into our account while waiting for the funds to clear for the buyer. Ebay doesnt do that.

Hi there, this was definitely informative but I need info for Australian ebay. Some of this does not make sense to me and I have 7 days to decide. eg we don't have any SSN, we don't have checking accounts, and if ebay is going to be able to access my bank account to take money OUT, well that's not happening - I'm on a tight budget and need to know where every cent is. Nobody has ever asked me for information on how to access my bank account for the purpose of withdrawing money - in fact my bank says that if anybody does it's a scam and don't do it. I never thought this was serious until today. It was always put that "You are eligible ..." never that it had to be done. So anyway, would anyone have an Australian KZbin video link regarding this please?

Cory Ward with Managed Payments you still get hit with a 2.1% fee as compared to the 3% fee that PayPal collects. So they are using this as a way to make even more money off the sellers back while providing really no additional benefits to us. Great deal huh?

I have a question for you. You stated that ebay needs our ssn so that they can send a 1099 form to the IRS. You also stated that they only send a 1099 if there has been over 250 items sold AND $20,000 in sales. So, would I be correct in saying that if there are $30,000 in sales but only 200 items sold, then ebay does not send the 1099 to the irs? Would appreciate clarification on that. I do not understand your issue. PayPal charges .30 and 2.9%... Ebay will only charge the .30 cents and nothing else aside from the already there final evaluation fees. THIS SAVES SELLERS 2.9% IN FEES! This also allows buyers to use ALL options, insulting still PayPal. If you are against this, you don't get it. Let me inform you of something.... PayPal has been messing up to where people are not being able to pay. It blocks them. I get this a lot from my buyers. It has stopped me from getting SO much money and then people cancel because they can't get help from PayPal or their account to work. I myself, tried to open up a PERSONAL account back in January 2020 to keep personal and business separate (I have had a PayPal business account for 20 years and they are our credit card processor for our website too. I just switched last week to Square since PayPal was messing my website up and my customer were getting PISSED they could not pay and threatened to go elsewhere) And I have been trying for 5 months, every week, to get my account to let me buy anything. So I tried using my credit card directly through eBay (As they are/were ebay's credit card processor) and it blocks me there still, even without using PayPal to check out. I tried 4 different cards... But bay's credit card processor (PayPal) blocks me. I have spent HOURS trying to get PayPal to get my account fixed and they won't. they keep saying it is my card, yet I buy things online almost daily with that same card. I even called my bank 3 times to triple check and they say they don't even see an attempt so PayPal is red flagging me. PayPal has 0 phone support right now, no tech support or supervisors... only a chat which glitches and logs you out constantly and then you lose your chat window after waiting for an hour to get someone. Then if you don't reply within 1 minute, they say "It looks like you have stepped away, let us know when you are available" I NEVER STEPPED AWAY! I was typing my response. And even though my original message states all my issues, they don't say anything to help unless you are active within seconds. Even in the middle of chats, I randomly get a new rep every 10 min or so and then you have to explain again! Every rep says a different thing and I am serious when I say I have spent HOURS and HOURS. I even tried to link my bank and it gets me through all the motions and after I do the confirmation to link, I get an error. I tried to attempt this on a different browser and devices with the same result. Again, since January and I try several times a week. I even waited a couple weeks to allow a rest to see if it was too many attempts. I get told there's nothing wrong on my account by one person then another says I need to verify my identity by adding a bank and it wont let me. I have one order for $182 waiting since January for me to pay and it won't let me. And I have buyers with the same issue to check out with my items. This all started with covid 19 and PayPal no longer offering phone support, tech support or email. Only a defective chat. And my income have dropped yet my sales are up since then. (Not because of covid19 as my business thrives in termoil as it creates an income for my buyers.) And I have over 18 different orders UNPAID and all the buyers are saying they can't pay just on eBay alone. Some have sent me a check which is against eBay policy. I called eBay so frustrated I was crying about PayPal making me lose orders and they told me that is WHY THIS CHANGE IS HAPPENING! Because there is a LARGE percentage of people who cannot buy anything if they opened a PayPal or eBay since January. So any newer people get blocked and stuck. AS SELLERS WE WANT NEW CUSTOMERS!!! They are costing both eBay and sellers a lot of money. You might have someone trying to buy from you and they cannot, and you have no idea that happens unless they contact you! THINK ABOUT IT! There is nothing wrong with this. It is GOOD!

I can only think of one change in 22 years that was an improvement. I don't think I am long for ebay. My sister asked me about starting on ebay. First account forced toward managed payments just got restricted from listing today. We have not complied, and don't think we will. I figure there has to be one change that finally makes sellers say "enough is enough" and move on. Maybe then a credible competitor can enter the space and create something that works? We need a decentralized market place that allows sellers and buyers to transact without the elephant in the middle. Will be moving on when all accounts reach restrictions form listing. Would not recommend anyone new start an eBay business now.

I know, I have sold on Ebay for many years. I think now, it just seems their fee structures and policies are too sided toward themselves and then buyers...the sellers are a distant 3rd. Ebay will still dominate the reseller market, but I see other online sites gaining some ground. Ebay also changed a lot when large retailers started selling their goods there. That changed the core nature of what Ebay started as and turned them into something more akin to Amazon or Walmart. And Ebay still defaults to listing your items as a bid. As a small vintage reseller, I have lost out big-time when I have listed items for bids, so I rarely do it anymore.

Here's what I find wrong with this: When I had to return an item I purchased on eBay because the item was poorly made and fell apart right out of the box (a $140 item, no less) -------eBay protected the seller (who was incredibly rude and boorish, by the way), bought her line of b.s. and refused to refund my money. I knew enough to appeal to PayPal and guess what? PayPal stepped up and got me my refund. Just like that. No problem. I LIKE that PayPal is there, as a back-up plan for both the buyer and the seller. As a seller, I LIKE that PayPal has more complete info on my buyers. I LIKE the way PayPal handles my sales and allows me to either keep the money in PayPal or transfer to my bank account, as I see fit. I LIKE the way PayPal is set up, when I want to give my buyers a partial refund. PayPal is often easier to use than eBay for certain things. What eBay is doing is nothing short of a monopoly now. I'm not convinced this is in the best interests of the seller or the buyer.

If you sell alot inCoins/billions/adult materials and a few other areas you are getting an extension to stay on old system longer as Ebay tries to fix the system to allow t ni use sales on managed payments. Also, auctions are gone for now. So once you switch your store wont be divided into buy it now/best offer and auctions, you will only list buy it now. Auctions will come back if they figure out how to comply it with manage payments....weird stuff shaking down in ebay.

eBay is a vessel for my business...I use their "site" to sell "my" product and I pay them handsomely for this service! It ceases to be "my" business when eBay has chosen to dictate how I can receive MY payments. I can't tell you how frustrating that is! That would be like me renting a commercial building and the landlord dictating to me how I receive payments and if I didn't agree to use the bank they own, I couldn't sell there even though I'm already paying them rent for the use of their building. 8/18/2020 - Sounds like a nightmare for sellers and an amazing thing for all the thieves and scammers in the world. Only thing I am gathering from this information is that anytime I sell something, if the person decides they dont want the item, or has buyer remorse, or wants to have their cake and eat it too, all they to do is hit the "return" button and eBay puts the money on hold for the purchase and the consumer will get the benefit of the doubt every time and my store goes bankrupt after 6 months. This concept is not going to work at for the average, everyday eBay store front. I see people just scamming the hell out of this deal. I see Buy What You Want today, Click return button when item received, Get all Money back from purchase, Never return Item to seller, Enjoy New Free Product. I mean eBay seems to think that EVERY buyer out there has actual legit returns. This will all only be made worse by the USPS going on strike when all the States starting suing the Postal Service for their delays in shipping. Boy, will we be having delays now you can bet. Smh.......To anyone who has read this far: Jump ship now, go to Mercari or Offer Up, or even Facebook if you have to. They are doing this to weed out the Mom and Pop shops and Non-Subscription store fronts.

I'm the E-commerce manager where I work and we sell on both Amazon and Ebay. It looks like they are trying to emulate Amazon and we do have this happen where the customer doesn't like the product and opens the return. Then they file an A-Z claim so Amazon pays them out from us and they get to keep the product. Both platforms err towards the buyer's side and we've been screwed over by both from blatant fraud. Their response "well, it is the cost of doing business". We are not looking forward to this forced change.

Ebay is holding your funds and can claim the money as a asset, while the funds they are holding is also a liability owed to you. Any accountant knows that the easiest way to steal is to beat someone with a pencil. Ebay can and will use the money they are holding for sellers, just as a seller can use funds in an account for other things before paying bills.

My guess it is all about the IRS and easy reporting/collection. I also like the separation of accounts. I do not trust them to be 100% accurate or quickly fix errors which are inevitable given the number of transactions they process. (I have No time to chase them!! I ship On the next business day , and I don't like the rules that you need to follow to have a store, and it has never effected my sales. and what benefits do you get? well it doesn't matter any more cause this stupid managed payments will force me to no longer use eBay to sell. and if I no longer have money coming into my PayPal, then I can't buy anything on eBay anymore either. Cause I don't have credit cards and I never use debit cards anywhere. ever. I only use cash or PayPal. so fuck you eBay.... you just helped hurt other sellers cause I don't use amazon and I would only use eBay .... but not anymore.

I'm a first time watcher and I subscribed. This all sounds right according to my experience since I switched over. I liked PayPal better because I felt that I had more control of my money, just like you said. I'm on daily payouts and that seems to be working ok, although I never see any payments on a weekend which I miss. If I sell something on a Friday, I don't see that money until Tuesday which I don't care for much, but I guess changes happen and I will get used to it like anything else. Been selling on ebay for 20 years. My account just got switched over to managed payments. It can take 5 days or longer to get my money and I can't access it. Total trash... no wonder people are starting their own auctions through facebook... etc. I'll be looking to sell elsewhere.

I just have trouble giving eBay my SSN and my bank account number. I work for a health insurance company and am familiar with SPI/PHI. eBay doesn't need my SSN. I sell mostly audio equipment so I can upgrade to better equipment. I'm done with eBay. I'm going to use Audiogon.com. I joined eBay in May 1999 but I prefer using PayPal and pay the 2.9%.

We might open a separate bank account just for eBay so they have limited access to our funds!! What are the fees for eBay to manage payments? eBay can't even manage what they already have in place, we have a number of items for sale that we can't change the Buy More discount on & no one to talk to at eBay. What happens when there is a problem and no one is available to talk to at eBay? Once we give approval and access to our bank account eBay can legally do whatever they want with our funds!! Had this problem with a merchant CC company before, the only way to stop them was to close the account. The only thing that protects us is eBay's "promise" which we all know is not worth the breath it takes to say. Not happy about this at all. Please buy from our website!!!

Is eBay nuts??? SSN and bank log-in info?? The routing info is fine, but bank account log-in, I don't think so. If trolls and hackers ever get in, they will clean you out before you can blink, and they will have access to all of your accounts at that bank. I have been with eBay 16 years, Top Rated seller, but I don't need the money bad enough to give them that info...
