@@reedythepeedy8547 If you know how to solve a big cube (preferably 6x6+, but if you know how to solve a 5x5 there's only one more concept needed), it's the exact same method. If you don't know how to solve a big cube, there are lots of tutorials out there. Most of them are specifically for one size, but if you know how to solve one, you can pretty much solve them all.

You could have used 1x1 round studs instead of normal 1x1 plates. You wouldn’t have to sand them then but I think there would be a little bit of white around the edge. You could have also used tiles instead of plates to make flat and smooth. But still, this is really cool.

The 1X1 is the easiest to make entirely out of LEGOs. All you need are six 2x2 tiles or plates (1 white, 1 yellow, 1 green, 1 blue, 1 red, 1 orange) and one LEGO 2x2 die piece, which comes with most LEGO board games, such as Minotaurus.

May have been said before, but I'm thinking it wouldn't be that hard to 3D print a 5x5, or even a 6x6 or 7x7, with cubies perfectly sized for gluing lego pieces onto. 6x6 (maaaaybe 5x5) would probably be the best point to transition from using 2x2 pieces to 1x1 pieces, while the 7x7 would be the first in the sequence to have 1x1 centers, 1x2 edges, and 2x2 corners. And as long as you're 3D printing these base puzzles, may as well modify the pieces so that the legos snap right on to them... sounds like it would be a fun project. I'd be interested in helping out with that!
@johnandrews94333 жыл бұрын
I’d have to wonder if consumer fdm printers have enough resolution for that to work. SLS definitely but it’s hard to have prints that don’t have very slight layer lines that are going to catch. ASA or ABS might hold up but they also might have longevity issues in something like this too. The modeling work wouldn’t be too bad but I see some definite potential roadblocks too. Designing it kinda like stickered cubes could save the sanding though.
@ryanbeam59513 жыл бұрын
@@johnandrews9433 With a bit of patience, far more ambitious mechanical puzzles have already been manufactured on desktop printers. I admit that some of my own designs have run into the troubles you describe, but check out what more patient puzzle builders like Corenpuzzle and Kevin Uhrik have done!

you couldve binded the entire side, then applied glue to one piece of the whole side, then pressed the whole binded side to a side of the assembled cube without caps, and then pull off the binded side, with the currently glued piece stuck onto the cube, this wouldve ensured that all pieces are perfectly aligned

I would love to see a conversion of something like the 6x6 MGC to a 4x5x6 cuboid. 3D printed extensions is the obvious solution and I can probably do that in onshape but not sure why I see cutting or grinding pieces away in some posts/resources. I always figured that the extensions should do the job w/o removing material from the original cube. Anyway just something that interests me since the 2x3x4 & 3x4x5 are beginning to bore me, the price of a 4x5x6 is around $300 and I'm pretty crafty with my 3D printing and modeling... just too chicken to destroy my nice MGC and never really did a rube project of any kind. Love your videos @Z3Cubing, keep up the great work!
