This is sad what makes it worse it was preventable Tina should have been sterilized. Even if she survives this she will continue to have issues nursing babies. If someone coukd get Teeny away from the troop they could get the baby to drink daily bowl bottle or poor on ground let them lap it up

@@Kmerch46 it all sounds like a good idea, except that we don't control who gets trapped in the (sterilisation) cage. Tina may be too smart or too skittish to go in the cage, and the HK government doesn't care who is a good monkey mum, or which has trouble with milk. As for Teeny, no way you can get her. The whole troop would descend on the "kidnapper". Teeny is low standing but the troop still cares about the members, and although small in size, they have long canines!

Tina's little boy looks good ,(as far as I can tell). Poor Tina does not do well having large babies. I remember she had problems after Ty also. Teeny is going above and beyond letting her brother try to nurse. That must be very sore. She's doing her best to care for him though, IMHO . Every year something happens to Tina’s baby, and every year we get our hearts broken. The only exception is Teeny made it with help. But last year Teeny was the reason Teensy died. We keep stepping in each year instead of letting nature takes it’s natural course.

Ya know, Tina is low ranking and she (herself) is pretty thick and her babies are huge when born. Tina is built like some of the males. Her low rank doesn't stop her from getting meals unlike Gypsy. She is small and thin. And usually gets scraps or what others have already spit out and thrown away.

I believe Teeny is lactating because there's no way this baby would be still alive without milk. That being said our prayers have been answered and I'm thankful for answers prayers..., good job Teeny keep up the good work! I wonder if Tina will take her baby back when she all better? Seems like she might as well keep on being his Momma.

Have you ever watched a movie with someone who has already watched it and keeps telling you what happens throughout the movie? That would be me. It's driving me nuts not knowing what's going on. That baby is not distressed and looks like it's getting something from someone. This is going to be a very unique situation if that baby survives. Especially since this situation was not manipulated by humans. I'm dying to know, I HATE CLIFFHANGERS... I would pay for someone to spill the beans. It's kinda in realtime for us but this actually happened a couple of months ago.

Teeny looks absolutely beautiful holding her baby brother. I hope Tina is going to be okay, I already think I know what happens to her baby unfortunately. It will take an absolute miracle for this baby to survive. This is unfortunately part of what can go wrong especially with wild animals, but us humans also. And as AM said Teeny is only trying to desperately help her mom and baby brother the only way a little monkey knows how to do. One thing is for certain Teeny will be an amazing mother herself one day hopefully this birthing season she will have her own and hopefully Tina will skip this year and give her body a well deserved rest. Her situation is out of her control. Time will only tell all of the above. ❤

Yes, logical thinking. I don't know why I surprised about how many people think this is something that humans can control. The ones insisting AM or Monkeys Inc should take the baby until Tina is well don't have a clue of the danger they are asking or insisting them to do. Alligators lay 30 to 50 eggs and only 6% of them survive. I'll break that down even further. If an Alligator lays 25 eggs only one or two survive. So they want AM and Monkey's Inc to jump into a pond full of hungry Alligators to save a baby Alligator then put it back a couple of weeks later in the same hungry infested pond. The outcome either way is going to be the same. Unless its taken away for good, but whose gonna stick their toe in the pond?

@@EmmaDee Oh no, your good. A lot of us want to learn as much as we can about these creatures. I have learned a lot from the comment section from others. I still have not found another video about this yet. I'll let you in on a secret, I'm one of those that will buy a book go directly to the back and find out what happened before reading the book. I always want to know the ending first. If I'm watching a movie with someone and I've already seen it, I tell them what going to happen next through out the movie. And I always peek at my Christmas gifts before Christmas. It drives my family nuts. So a couple of people left comments about Tina's baby and they know the outcome but nobody is revealing what has happened. This is a unique situation. I would bet it did not make it but just by chance imagine Teeny actually helping the baby survive and being able to watch in real time would be priceless. There are case studies of mothers adopting infants, and there is another situation of a sister (whom was too young to mother or produce milk) caring for her baby sister out of Cambodia. That was a bad situation. Baby Kailey I think was the name. Anyway, I'm determined to find out what happened. As for Monkey Hill, my favorite is Gypsy.

With how lethargic she is.... she migh even allow somebody to get near enough to get her into a kennel so a surgery could be performed if need be. I hate seeing animals in this kind of pain... it reminds me of my childhood cats before they died. Hurts my heart... Where are the tranquilizer darts and surgeons with these lovelies? Perhaps they don't want the population to grow too much so that amount of investment isn't contributed.

The next few days are very critical. I hope Tina can participate soon, as I think the odds will improve for both of them. Nursing generally helps the uterus contract which might help Tina along. What a day on Monkey Hill!

This is the first time I've felt sympathy toward Tina. In fact I pretty much hate her. Those mouthfuls of food she stole from tiny and teeny when their lives depended on it really rubbed salt into my brain. She takes care as much as she can but to rob them of the very thing that they have to have to keep living chapped my butt. I've seen her babies starve to death time after time. Teensie broke my heart. Thought she would live but teenie would grab her and keep her away from Tina making her waste all those precious calories that her meager milk supply gave. It's funny the story I love and have waited for is from the mother I can't stand to see bare young. Tina is suffering and my heart feels for her even if my mind doesn't. Can't wait to see this one play out. She def sucures herself with watchers like myself

Interesting that you say that. I still don't like Tina and cannot forgive her for the way she did it. Yeah, yeah, wild animals and so on, were invested in this situation and have become apart of Monkey hill. Tina is your story, Gypsy is mine. I didn't like her but over time began to realize she is doing the best she can. I've looked deeper into what could be her strategy. She is the very bottom of rank in her troop. But her offspring are more accepted by other troop members than herself. Shortly after she gives birth they go to others to take care of. The troop becomes conditioned into being around her children because of Rudy's rank when she is role playing the aunt. For instance, Kailey was able to catch food when Grandee was dropping food for the higher ranking yearlings. Even though macaque's lack critical thinking I have convinced myself Gypsy didn't want her offspring to live the life she has to live. It's kinda worked. I do look at her different than before. Now, I'm on her side. And jump to her defense. Also, if any of her children are involved in a confrontation she springs out of the shadows to defend them. Never see her until that moment. She never gets any special attention. She is the last to eat. Most of the time its food that another has already spit out and thrown away. No one is giving her a break. And all of her kids are truly good. They are very close and loving to each other. Well, more loving than the rest. Gypsy is my favorite...

She has a retained Placenta its not common that a young healthy macaque would pass because of this but in Tina's situation she is older and not in good health to begin with unfortunately its fairly likely she won't pull through this in that case teeny may start lactating if she hasn't already and take over care of her brother

That would most likely have ended like the rest of Tina's babies. Teeny isn't the problem. Tina either produces milk too poor of quality to sustain the baby or not enough. We aren't really sure. Anyways, it has almost certainly been resolved in one way or another by now. This was over two months ago

Trouble with giving birth to such a big baby can be tiring for the uterus as it’s stretched in pregnancy. In humans, this is a risk factor as a tired and stretched uterus do not have the “oomph” for the last stretch of giving birth. Medication helps with humans to avoid manual removal of any products of conception. Hopefully Tina can have her strength back to nurse her baby for the release of oxytocin for her uterus to contract.

In the video AM clearly states that macaques rarely suffer from retained placenta and if they do by some chance they very rarely die from it.

Big baby, big placenta. You know she ate every bit of it. Tina and Teeny both know baby = food. Tina saw AM and laid down waiting for her handout. This baby doesn't stand a chance. Three adult females, Tina, Trina, and Teeny will raid it's pouches every time it has any food. No baby could survive that type of ambush. So brace yourself, it's not gonna be a happy ending unless someone kidnaps it.

Only monkeys captured in the cages get sterilized. As long as Tina avoids the cage, she won't be sterilized. It's not like the officials watch these videos and intentionally go looking for the bad moms to capture.

@@dawn_on1447 Sorry about the snark. The government has big catch cages throughout the area. They put snacks in the cages. They can apparently remotely suddenly slam the doors shut. Whatever monkeys are caught in the cages are taken off and sterilized. But as far as I know, they are brought back to where they were captured so they can rejoin their troop. They are sterilized by snipping the fallopian tubes or the vas deferens, the ovaries and testes are left intact. When they are sterilized they are tattooed on their chest to identify them as having had the surgery. Although AM pointed out a female once with a tatoo and a baby, the surgery must have failed on one side. When the Brits were still in power in HK they gave the females long acting birth control shots that lasted up to five years and clipped an ear to signify the shot. Dolly, Reddy and Bossy have notched ears. I am sorry I get snarky. I get tired of people making dumb comments or asking dumb questions such as "Why don't you just grab the baby from Teeny?" These are wild animals that do not take to people stealing their babies, they have very large canines and know how to bite and those cute little hands have nails that can scratch an eye out. And I love monkeys, have since I was a tyke. I read Sapolsky's "Memoirs of a Primate" years ago. It was about the time he was an undergrad and a grad student studying baboons in Kenya. Their society is similar to the Rhesus Macaques' society. His book us hilarious. In watching AM's videos I do not think that apes are much more intelligent that the Rhesus Macaques in HK. They have learned to eat kaolin to contact the poisonous plants and one (sorry, I do not remember who) uses tools to get bugs and to groom others. The Rhesus Macaques were brought to HK to eat the poisonous plants that surround the reservoir.

Arroz, I think you are overlooking something. It's quite possible that Teeny, even tho she is not a mother, could still feed the baby eventually. In adult female primates (humans too), just the act of suckling regularly will bring some kind of milk down. It's richer if they've had a kid already, but could still be viable if they haven't yet. So, if the baby continues to suckle on Teeny, she COULD eventually have actual milk for the baby.

Do we really know she'll be a good mom? She's had very little training. Remember, Tina and Trina used to take food from her pouches. She has no siblings or aunties on which to mirror her parenting style. Look how Celessa is with her baby. They are both pretty much in the same situation, except Celessa is a princess, and Teeny is at the bottom of the hierarchy. Teeny was also quite rough with Teensy. So, no, you can't be sure she'll be a great mom. I hope she is. I'm far from an expert, but I say it's 50/50 right now.

They spent hours gathering crumbs and then Tina and Trina would raid what was in their cheeks. Teeny probably remembers that. Plus, we've only just seen a small bit of how Teeny is treating this baby. I'm saying with her history and her situation, you cannot for sure say, with certainty, that Teeny will be a good mother. We won't know until she actually has her own baby. Actually, Teeny is mature. She reached sexual maturity this year and was actively looking to mate. She was, unfortunately, unsuccessful. We actually know of two monkeys that suffer PPD. Nora who is matriarch of her troop and Olivia, who is in Teeny's troop, Skullhead. So, we also cannot be sure if Teeny will not have PPD.

Since Tina is repeatedly checking her bottom and to me seems like birth was more recent than that of the baby Reeny has with her. They be totally separate events. Being a nonprofit that rescues rhesus, I can honestly say, that watching the suffering of Tina’s babies is the most heart wrenching and difficult things for me. When you can actually physically be with them daily, your view changes drastically. But I know, some are just not meant to be saved, no matter how much we try to intervene. Nature is nature and as sad as it is, at least he did not suffer for prolonged months as the previous have. Hopefully whatever is wrong with Tina prevents her from being able to conceive again. It’s just truly sad to watch.

How's he going to do that? First, he has to grab the baby from Teeny. That will cause not only Teeny to attack but also bring the whole troop down on him. Why do you think poachers have to kill wild mothers in order to snatch a baby. Second, monkey infants do not always take to artificial nipple. They have to be taught how to suckle from them. Also, what size nipple does he use? A human infant one would be too big. I suppose he could pour it on the ground so the baby could just lap it up.

Pouring it on the ground has been done before. It works if the baby will drink it. The Vervet Monkey Foundation uses a Royal Canan adjustable bottle that has a very small nipple. But, they also have a rehydration solution they give to orphaned Vervets. It has water, honey, and electrolytes. The honey being sweet entices the infant to drink.

@anitasorensen9058 this is a newborn. It's instinct is to suck. I don't think it would know to lap. An older baby, maybe, but not a newborn. Plus, AM would have to be able to get it off Teeny. Even if you put it on the ground, in the middle of a pool of milk, it probably wouldn't know what to do. At that age, it clings and nurses. It would just stay put and screech and cry if taken from that comfort of the warm body. Also, you notice at the Vervet Foundation, when they do this, they have to burrito the monkey and hold it. There is no angry troop around that will attack. The babies they get aren't newborns either.

We don’t know if Trina is her sister or her daughter, and Trina is believed to be sterilized. I think Tina has always had these issues. She’s very old, as old as Bossy most likely. It might be a reason why she only has 2 living kids.

The authorities pick and choose who is allowed to breed. They have a sterilization program. But it is not clear what standards they use to choose the monkeys. It is possible the monkey dumb enough to go into the trap after the bait is the one sterilized. These are wild monkeys but in a controlled sanctuary.

It is possible but getting attacked by half the troop wouldn't be fun. Plus these guys don't do it like the VO's in Cambodia. It's done daily there. If they tried they would lose all trust from the troop especially Teeny. Tina would fight to get it back and chaos would erupt. Besides, even if Tina got the baby back and nursed it there really isn't gonna be successful outcome. Tina lacks breast milk sufficient for survival. Teeny will continue to snatch the baby any chance she gets. This baby is doomed.

Actually, from what I've watched of AM's videos, and he has captured them mating, the females have as much a choice on when they mate during the mating season, if they mate, and with what male. They can chase off a male if they don't want to mate with him. Males can also choose to reject a female that shows interest.
