Awesome. I bought some really nice trousers, but didn't realise they're supposed to be cropped. I'm too short for them to look cropped on me, but they're just a little too short to be full length. This technique will make them exactly the right length. Thanks

I have made pants longer by adding fabric at the top, and altering the crouch to fit. It usually works very well if I use fabric left over from making the top. A few patches here and there on the pants (and they usually pass as "made that way"). As Mom always said, "It wont be noticed on a galloping horse."

Hi Catherine, I cannot find good straight pins. Which kind do you use?
@CatherineSews5 ай бұрын
I’ve debated about pins a lot! I used to insist on 1 1/4” steel pins that were really expensive but the didn’t bend. When I moved schools, the new classroom had the pearl head pins which are kind of crappy and bend easily, but I find I like them better! You can find them in the floor so much easier and they’re also much easier to grab quickly, and they’re way cheaper! I like them better now! I’ll add a link to ones I like in my next video, hopefully in a few days.

I don’t get how you are able to use a universal needle, straight stitch, on knits, without the thread breaking or get skipped stitches. How does this work?
@schoolingdiana90864 ай бұрын
I’d say, make sure your tension on the bobbin and top threads are correct for the weight of knit fabric, make sure the stitch length is long enough, and make sure you’re not using an old needle. They have about a 5 garment life before they develop tiny burrs around the tip.

I have a t-shirt that is mid-thigh length and the sleeves are way tooo short- like cap sleeves so underneath the arm there is only about an inch to attach too (or even less since I need seam allowance and have no serger). Should I remove the whole cap sleeve and use that as a template and cut the fabric (likely from the bottom of the t shirt) and make a 3/4 or more sleeve? I don't know if it should be tapered....and don't know if the the cap sleeve would make a poor template...could you help me with this before I cut and rip? I know you will have a solution :) There is thick bias tape (thicker than the shirt) around all edges. Does that description make sense? I didn't know that a false hem had a name. I did that to a pair of distressed denim shorts. They were on deep clearance and I didn't like the strings ticketing my leg. They fit well so I decided to patch them rather than have them unravel more with every wash. I don't think I understiched. I think I did it by hand so I had a lot of control with the placement.
