@defendrr_ru2 ай бұрын
@@genesis_tracks I doubt you need the **same** software for that. If I remember correctly, the thing he used, Sound Forge(?) was a proproetary version of the same thing that Audacity is, an audio editor. It's probably has some features which Audacity lacks, but $300+ smackaroos for that, lol, unless you're waving the Jolly Rodger I think Audacity would be more than enough. It would be really cool to see it in whatever way you're planning to approach this, ngl. I doubt anyone else had done that at all. Can't wait, man!!
@genesis_tracks2 ай бұрын
@@defendrr_ru I saw that there's a free trial for Sound Forge but only the newest version. Future edit: I found a 2005 version for free which might be the version he used at the time, considering the release date of Untrue being 2007. I know I don't *need* to use it, but I like to do these software challenges as authentic as possible so this video might actually be closer than we think!

Thank you yeo! I personally think trench can be wonky and doesn't have to be boxed into a quantized sound. I'm genuinely curious how long it took for you to work in Audacity to get to this. Also, I'm trying to look but I'm not noticing any effects chain or anything resembling a mixer. Am I missing it or do you genuinely have to remember the order of effects you're using?
@genesis_tracks2 ай бұрын
I've been using Audacity for about a decade on and off, occasionally fooling around with the signal generation and effects, but that does not equate to how long it would take for you to get to this. And yes there's no effects chain or mixer because Audacity is designed to be an Audio Editor, not a Digital Audio Workstation (music based). Audacity is at it's best when you're recording audio, fixing audio, doing minor adjustments, adding minor effects and other small things like that. Cause of this, you may have to remember the order of effects. However, you can set up macros triggered by a key on your keyboard which'll process an effect or a series of effects. I personally have M to apply my late-stage "mastering". I have a video about that here (timestamped): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHnOl5KagMd9hbMsi=ZFo_L0HtyFnpNrha&t=366 Hope this helps yeo!

@genesis_tracks2 ай бұрын
That's true, I forgot to mention that! It's insane how you can use your own VSTs in it. But then if that's the case with this challenge, in my opinion, it'd be the same as only using basic waveform oscillators on whichever DAW you use.
@MCWolf142 ай бұрын
True but tbh your basses still sounds better than mine even though I used infiltrator and other vsts. But this is a fun challenge and I thought the odd sound design workflow in audacity actually helped me make cooler or more unique basses. @@genesis_tracks
