This is by far, the BEST Wall-E scratch build I’ve seen…. I adore the end result, it’s beautiful! I imagine your friends were over the moon with it! 🥰🤩 Totally agree about the whole 3D printing thing, it’s not scratch built if you’re using programmes to build it for you! It definitely takes away the charm too. I know of some fab artists that work with 3D printing and it’s great in its own right, but I much prefer this type of art. Keep it up, you’re truly talented.

I love scratch building. I lack the skill and patience to deal with 3d printing myself, even though I do own a 3d printer. However, I think it's a great tool for creating details that would destroy your soul due to the tedium (like railings, window frames, things you need to make a lot of etc). Same for laser cutters.

As someone who models a tad and has a 3d printer, I don’t think it’s exactly cheating or anything. Because almost no matter what, you’ll always have to paint, and painting is arguably the most difficult part.
@gameyybuilds2 жыл бұрын
Interesting take! For me the building is definitely more challenging than painting. Sometimes I'll have to mull over a project for weeks before I even start because I'm trying to figure out how to do all the different parts. The painting usually goes pretty quick, and I'm so relieved that the building is finished that it's very enjoyable!

I am one who believes that scrap building is not "scratch building" when 3D parts are used. If you are able to make everything that you might need, then it does not become a scrap build. I do feel that SOME 3D parts are very helpful, I can't bring myself to just make my parts to achieve a build. That's where artistic license becomes relevant.
@gameyybuilds Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I totally get how you feel. However, having done a lot of things from scratch, and having kit bashed many more, I've come to accept that there are some things that are just far more practical to design and print. The skillset just shifts from building it manually to building it digitally.

The base looked like chocolate browney cake. Now I hungry :D As for 3D printing, it depends. Usually for small detailed pieces with high quality, it is the only option (if you cannot find the exact toy you need). For example BHT uses it for the wild west animals and monsters, and that is fine.

I'm curious, is there a benefit to using kitty litter vs gravel or was it just an availability/price thing?
@gameyybuilds2 жыл бұрын
Actually I really like kitty litter (the non-clumping kind) because the gravel can be broken into smaller pieces very easily, and then broken up even further to make sand/dust. I currently have three different grades of this stuff that all came from the kitty litter. So I prefer it over real rocks or hobby terrain.

I understand the hesitation people can’t have with 3d printers since it can be a lot to learn up front and a time investment if you want to get the absolute most out of its possibilities but I view it the same way I do when I’m using pieces of Gundam or model kits where it can be useful both as greebles but also as quick ways to add tiny things that would be difficult to craft by hand
@gameyybuilds2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m definitely coming around to the idea. I saw a kitbasher recently on Instagram designing and printing amazing greeblies and really wished I had a printer to do my own!

@@gameyybuilds oh I’m glad to hear! Yeah my printer has been a godsend for both greeblies or things like really small detailed things for 28mm scale (like last night I printed a bunch of tiny potions for a merchants stall). Anycubics photon mono is even cheaper, below $200 last I checked, and is still a high resolution, just a smaller build plate.
