Excellent, thank you. I am wondering why not hold the wire vertically - pass flame on the bottom, so as not to have ball slump. Couldn't add a new piece to it, though.

Fantastic video! You seem to know exactly what the viewer is thinking/questioning. I don't even own a torch yet, but watched so that I could learn how to repair a favourite ring I bought at an art fair. I'll be buying one soon and you've helped me feel confident that I can do this. Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed tutorial, is this the same process for 9k or 14k gold wire?
@beaducation5 ай бұрын
Honestly I am not sure because I have never worked with 9K or 14k gold wire.

Since you showed the wire out of the package, what brands are fine silver or where craft store typically carries it? My google search showed was not as helpful as I'd like. Oh, and could you simply hold the wire as you were doing when you were demonstrating the hot area instead of laying it on the hear resistant surface. I thought the ball looked ok that way. Thanks for sharing.
@beaducation8 жыл бұрын
Craft stores don't carry fine silver wire, you will have to buy it online. We sell it here. www.beaducation.com/pc/258-wire-sheet-metal?utf8=%E2%9C%93&qry=&choices%5B21%5D=on&choices%5B126%5D=on&sort_order=Model+%28A-Z%29 Yes you could hold the wire as you form the ball but if it's a thick wire, it works much better laid down. Thanks! Make sure to subscribe for more great vids!

Is if possible to make gold fill ball pins using gold fill wire? Excellent video - thank you.
@beaducation7 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, no, since gold filled is a mix of metals, it doesn't melt regularly and it will be wonky shaped and the gold will likely burn off.

Does 14k gold filled wire oxidize from the torch when making balled headpins?
@beaducation6 жыл бұрын
Because gold filled is a layer of gold over another metal (typically brass), I don't think it would ball up well because those 2 metals would be melting into each other.

Hi beaducation. I have watched the tutorial I like it but I don't know why my wire doesn't form a ball at the end when I got it. It just glows and bends

Make sure you are using fine silver.

Great video. I could not figure out how to get the balls nice and round until I watched this. I have one question I am hoping you can answer. I used this technique with raw copper and the 18g worked wonderfully. But I had a real problem with my 20g wire. It would not ball up for some reason. They are both bare copper of different brands. Do you have any ideas as to what the problem could be?
@beaducation6 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Sorry for the late reply. It's likely that your 20 gauge was either dirty or maybe had some sort of coating on it.

Does this process not require the use of pickle?
@beaducation4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa! Not for this particular class, because we use Fine Silver wire which doesn't fire scale.

It really would be better if you had a separate intro torch video. I just want to learn the technique of making the ball end. This is far too long for what you advertise.

thanks for the feedback. We always make sure to cover safety incase someone is new to the torch. If you watch the classes on our site, most are broken down step by step so you will be able to skip steps www.beaducation.com/class_categories. Thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated :)

11 minutes 14 seconds still haven't gotten to actual making of the ball pin.. just a LOT of talking about butane and torches

Wow. Did you pay for the video? So rude.
@beaducation Жыл бұрын
Yeah we try to be super thorough when talking about supplies because we don't want someone using the wrong wire and we for sure go on and on about butane torches because safety is #1 with us.

Vids here are free :) Safety is #1 with us so being very very thorough when talking about torches is very important to us
