Makita 2012NB Shelix Head Installation
Here I am installing the Shelix Head from Byrd Tool.
A couple of videos online recommend cutting or filing the side of the machine. I would not recommend that, as the head fits in with no force at all, and you don’t have to remove the blades either.
After watching videos by @Rich32262 and @olofandersson6910, I decided to make a custom 3D printed 4-inch dust chute, as I never liked the Makita 2012NB’s original dust chute.
I noticed a drop in volume level, at least 20% lower. The result is a smoother, cleaner cut, with fewer chips and less dust.
The stand is built with a 4-inch dust suction to pick up the small wood chips that fall into the gap between the front wing and the machine.
Overall, this was a super upgrade and a very simple one.
