Joe in 2006 I bought a Craftsman 15 amp on sale for 39 bucks, it was about half off. It has served me well these 15 years. I have replaced chain 1x. This was perfect for an occasional user and an old 74yr man.

When these electric chainsaws hit the market, I was certain it would be a gimmick tool. Come to think of it, I actually bought a dirt cheap battery powered Ryobi just for some climbing work I had. Anyhow, these have advanced so far! Every couple years I check out the specs and usually decide to stick with my stihl. These latest generation models I have seen on many channels, they seem to be almost on a par with a homeowner grade gas saw. Now I am swinging the other direction, just the convenience of not having to carry fuel, oil, file, chainsaw key, etc. There are so many chainsaw jobs where you just need to make a quick cut or two. Seems amazingly more convenient to go electric.

im a gas saw guy, but for the regular homeowner this is a great option. in the backyard or garage. within cord reach. nice and quiet, dont have to mess with gas and oil. the biggest problem is that some people dont run their saws enough and the gas goes bad. the carb will foul out and wont run. much better than a remington or HF 120volt saw. this will always be ready to run. cheers.

The joy of log splitting in mid November in shorts and a t-shirt. I do feel sorry for you guys up north! Yes I live in Florida, where I went for a ride on the bike last weekend and will probably ride again this weekend. 😬 Before you hate on me too hard. It’s almost unbearable here in the summertime!

I have had an interest in these electric saws but held off purchasing. A friend had a stihl gas chain saw that he could not get running. Took it to two small engine shops and he still could not start it reliably. In frustration he gave it to me. I got it running and tried to give it back. He insisted that I keep it. It is a wood eating machine, cuts through wood like a hot knife in butter. Now I am actively looking for trees to cut up.

I've heard good things about a battery powered chainsaw available at Walmart. I'm tempted but I rarely have a need for such a tool. But when you need it, you need it, right?

Just a heads up to anybody shopping extension cords, don't use Amazon. I recently ordered a 12 gauge 50 ft cord for yard tools. It was the Amazon house brand, was neon yellow and advertised a coating that prevented knots kinks and snags. When it arrived, I was very impressed at first sight, it was nearly 3/4 of an inch diameter. I had not been able to find a UL listed cord for a price I was happy with, but the Amazon one was CE listed. When I started using it, it was very strange. It did not like to bend, yet it held a bend if you left it coiled up. Just strange behavior. It also seemed weak. I trial and errored another cord that I've had for 20 years that is undersized and beat to hell. I could not detect any power difference. On my cords for lawn equipment, I have gotten in the habit of changing the end for a twist lock fitting. This is not advisable, they are expensive, I just happened to have a gross of them and I was deeply annoyed at the cord unplugging or the half hitch getting hung up on things, hence the twist locks. When I got the original head off of the cord, I was horrified. The cord, despite being advertised as 12 gauge copper, was 100% aluminum. It had many many broken fibers despite only being used for a couple hours before cutting it off. I was under the impression that aluminum wiring used to be legal as Romex inside a wall, but it still was not advisable, and was completely illegal in any other setting. I believe it is not allowed to be used in walls anymore, I think that stopped in the early '80s or so. But yeah, 100% aluminum. With the jacket removed, I could sever the cord by bending it back and forth multiple times. I chat called Amazon fuming mad. In my book, they risked a house fire. It was also blatantly false advertising. The customer service rep did not sound remotely surprised, did not care in general, and simply asked me if I wanted a replacement or a refund.

Nice video! I'm having trouble with my regular chain saw and am very tempted to buy one with a cord. However I would like to use it all over my property, which means up to almost a 100 meter/300 feet. From your video it seems that could become quite expensive, and I'm not sure I understand what the numbers mean. Can I ask what the risks or downsides of having longer extensions cord? And could I buy two of the same extension cord?

I am not an electrician, but as i understand it the longer the cord the higher the voltage drop. Low voltage causes higher current draw and causes overheating.
