Love this video! Just the info I needed. I did laugh at the start though "I borrowed this one from my brother... 23 years ago" 😂 And that's why you don't lend out your tools! 😂

lol, well that's what family are for. I hate to imaging where some of mine have gone over the years, I know I'm missing some. Hope the review helped anyway.

😄 I know I'm only kidding. It was a good video. I do want one but I'm finding I use speed control quite a bit now so I think when I have to get one I'll push the boat out for the variable version of this.

I am looking at buying one of these myself. Just thought I would point out it does come with a full three year warranty like most of the proper Makita stuff but you have to register it on the website. I have a lot of the cheaper Makita stuff and I find they are very basic and low spec for the price but they are extremely good quality.
@PaulLockwood5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ian. That's good to know as there is nothing about registering for the 3 year warranty. Yes low spec but it works so well.

Cracking bit of kit. I bought the titan 18 months ago it's a brilliant sander excellent dust collection as well same as your makita. But it's really heavy. So when it gives up I may get one if these cheers for the review. Subscribed.

Thank you. To me the weight was an important factor, plus I think this had the least negative comments.

I adapted the sander to the vacuum via a washing machine waste pipe. It's the perfect fit on the machine and an adapter on the other end to fit on my Henry. To be honest it made no difference regarding the dust going everywhere. Today I swept up more than was in the dust bag and same for the vacuum bag. I was sanding plaster filler and probably that's why the dust was going everywhere to to shading upright
@PaulLockwood4 жыл бұрын
The collection is done via the holes on the insides of the disc, so I would have thought that any sanding on the edges would and could only go our away from the sander. Mine does collect a lot of dust but not sure how much it spits out. As with any sanding you can't expect it to get everything.
@george-19614 жыл бұрын
@@PaulLockwood I will invest in a drywall sander that collects from the sides as well. As you say a good machine but there is only so much that can be collected

Hi Paul, 23 years?? I mean 23 years!! remind me never to lend you any tool. LOL. Seriously mate, a good, honest and fair assessment of a power tool that I also have never used or owned. I've got a couple of sanders- a handheld belt sander and what I call the "jigger-jigger" sands like the one you borrowed (and now own) from your bro. LOL. Like you I also check out the negative reviews first before deciding to purchase. Looking for common themes. The only Makita product I own is a Lawn Mower, which was over-priced and poorly designed and if not for the Briggs and Stratton engine would have been binned years ago!. I tend to go, but not always, for the Titan range and usually buy from Screwfix (who generally swap out without quibbling). Most of the power tools available at these prcies are badge engineered in the far east. Refreshing to see a good working cord length.Thanks for the review - much appreciated.
@PaulLockwood5 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, I'm sure my brother has a few more of these anyway. He has tools and space I can only dream of. Even at this budget range I was surprised by the choices. To me the main factor was the lighter weight, I don't think variable speed would be much benefit.
@alexwild43505 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your review and pointing out this was a fixed speed sander, and the comparison of other cheaper ones from screwfix. This was all most helpful. I'd looked at Argos range where I found this model, but your mention of Screwfix, even though there is a depot half a mile from me, hadn't crossed my mind. Variable speed would be most useful to have on a delicate job I have, so I've set off to check out the cheaper Titan model you mentioned, screwfix is £5 cheaper than Argos for the same demonstrated model, and I think I'll end up with the cheaper option. Many thanks for taking the time to make this video, its all been informative and helpful to me.
@PaulLockwood5 жыл бұрын
Most welcome Alex.I can only compare the specs but give a review on what I bought. So many of the budget tools don't have these sort of reviews and for me it's still a lot of money to spend so would like as much information as possible to make my own choice. I hope your choice works well for your needs.

I’ve not had any issues so far. Certainly read all the comments on screwfix to get a general idea. I know some of the cheaper models had issues like that which is why I went for this model.

Thank you. I have no idea what the Black & Decker is like, you would need to compare specs etc. and decide what you need. This is well built, small and light. From where I've used it so far it's been great to have.

Hi Paul - How is it holding up, now you've had it over a year?
@PaulLockwood4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick. This is still working very well I've been using it a reasonable amount lately on a few pallet wood projects. I've found it really does collect the dust a lot. It's a sander so it will also throw some out. When I first had this I did sand own a door and partially wrecked the edges of the hook and loop pad with it butting the edges of the door. Even with that visible damage the paper still holds extremely well. I'd certainly still recommend this item, it's been great for me.

@@PaulLockwood how's the velcro base holding up? I need to buy a new sander because the base of mine has worn smooth. Any tips for preventing that from happening and can you get a replacement base for this Makita sander?
@PaulLockwood4 жыл бұрын
@@JBEAN Hi, I have no idea about spare parts, you would need to search for those and maybe contact a supplier. Contacting Makita direct on their website may also help. This is holding up really well, just as good as when I first got it. It doesn't get a lot of use but does get used from time to time. I ruined the edges a little when I first got this by sanding down a door where the edges were hitting edges on the door, however it still holds the paper really well.

Worst thing to buy these type of sanders, soon has the pad wears out, and that won't take long, It's down at the shop to buy another pad , about 15 to 25 pounds
@PaulLockwood5 жыл бұрын
This one I've used for several hours. It was used to sand down a door over a couple of hours. Actually wrecked some of the edge of the pad as it was butting against an edge which you shouldn't do. Was using it Sunday for about 2 hours non stop and still works just as well. I'm sure some cheaper models will have that issue but so far this has been working very well. I do plan to do a follow up video on this in the next few weeks.
