I love makita. One thing I've noticed with owing makita Tools and working on the job sight is that makita is mutually respected by all the other fan boys. A Milwaukee or Dewalt guy will be quick to say the other brand is garbage but hand them a makita tool and they will almost always respect it for what it is. It may not be there color but they will like it and use it and always have good things to say about it.

My favorite thing about Makita. You know who actually owns Makita? Makita does. Nearly every other tool brand has sold out to an umbrella corporation. Nothing good ever comes from an umbrella corporation. Milwuakee is owned by Tectronic Industries. Who the F is that? Dewalt is owned by Stanley Black and Decker. Not my idea of quality.

@@superiorbeing95 Well it's quite clear that you knowledge of business is lacking. But what would I know with graduating summa cum laude with a major in business management and minor in marketing. First of your "Mr. Makita" is in fact..... Mr. Mosaburo Makita. Secondly, are you under the impression that banks run, or have any influence in, the companies that they loan money to? A bank loaned me money to buy my house, that doesnt mean they have any influence in how I earn my living to pay back the loan. Neither do investors, outside of taking their money elsewhere. Makita is different and better because they do not have a diversified portfolio. If an umbrella corporation that holds 12 different brands lets one brand slip in quality and folds, no big deal. They have 11 other brands to float the company. If Makita makes bad tools and loses its reputation, then guess what, there is no Makita. Makita has no room for making sloppy products, so they ensure that they don't.

Bingo! I've already been burned by Stanley-Black and Decker with the brand shell game where they suddenly zombied Porter Cable cordless and suddenly revamped Black and Decker and Craftsman cordless tools. Luckily, I was just at the beginning of my acquisition of tools. I bought corded tools because more of the work I've had to do - there's power available, and switched to Makita for the cordless bits that make sense fror me. I chose Makita precisely because they have no other brand - so its one skin in the game for them no marketing shell game to hide behind, and secondly, they actually design their own electric motors for their tools - they do not buy third party. AvE tear downs of some of the Makita stuff also showed the quality of manufacture and use of good components - for example the 18V lithium batteries are Samsung with a sophisticated battery management system and the battery capacity ratings are UNDERRATED. The tools are solid.

I went Makita after a lot of research. I see a lot of yellow and red tools in KZbin diy videos and in marketing... Know where I most often saw Makita? On the job working in HVAC, the electrician's had em, the cabinet installers had them, most everybody I saw that was doing a good job was running teal.. so I figured so should I.

I don’t get why Makita doesn’t just knock out Milwaukee and make their tools the most powerful as well. Metabo proper as well, look at their website and pull up impact drivers and Metabo must’ve hired a translator that hates them because it’s terrible and you would think Metabo hasn’t released new tools in years the impact wrenches and drivers are confused as the same thing and their impact wrenches actually have less torque than the average impact driver today.

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. kzbin.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

I have used and abused my Makita toos for a long time. Their angle grinders are something unexplainable. Have been waiting for one of my angle grinders to let the blue smoke out for a while now (it preforms like new, just I have owned it for smth like 10years). I have tortured it so badly I think I have broken some Geneva convention laws. While other brands have just crapped out after 1 or max 3years. Smart man. Makita doesn't make any middle of the road tools. They are all designed for the professional market. The new brushless drill & driver I picked up recently to replace the ones I had (still working but wanted the new ones) are friggen amazing. The driver has three power settings and the high setting drives a screw so fast you need to really pay attention as not to over drive it. The drill really surprised me though. It has some real heft to it. Nothing like the cordless drills I've had in the past. This one is a quality tool you can feel when you pick it up and it doesn't disappoint.

That 6095D 9.6V cordless drill with the torque settings was an awesome seller and converted so many of us! The fact you could adjust the clutch to avoid stripping the heads of screws and how much useful, controllable torque you could get out of a cordless drill with an actual variable speed trigger made all the difference! You know the cordless tool market wouldn’t be what it is without Makita showing Milwaukee or Black & Decker what was possible.

I've been using makita cordless for 20 years. I'm not going to change and they've never let me down. I'm still trying to burn out the original light duty drill and impact I bought 12 years ago, mixing mortar, hawging out big holes, it gets hot and smokes but I haven't killed it yet. Try saying that about some of the new brushless tools that milwakee and dewalt are putting out. I watched 2 brand new hole hawgs dropped by the plumbers where I used to work and they just stopped running. My friend worked in the tool crib and somehow one of the leads decided he wanted his crew to run dewalts instead of makitas because the cordless nailer line was better(I do agree with that, I have a dewalt cordless spiker and Brad nailer). My friend was constantly working on the dewalt junk and I think the guns only really lasted 6 months maybe a year before they were junk and constantly being worked on. All this finicky technology and here i am using my impact as a hammer all the time

When you're starting out getting into using cordless tools, research is a must. I don't remember how long I spent researching and feeling out different brands of tools before narrowing it down to Milwaukee, Makita and Hitachi. I ended up going with Milwaukee, mainly because I went to university in Wisconsin and I currently live in Dongguan, which is where TTI produces most of their tools (I have several close friends at TTI). I do have some corded Makita and Hitachi tools and they work great, so the choice I had to make was quite difficult. I truly believe that if you're considering going in the trades, Milwaukee and Makita are your best choices. I am not a DeWalt fan, never have been (maybe I just don't like yellow and black).

@@moefletcher Japanese are weird people. They don't make that quad. It's just branded with Makita all over it. I see where a bike would be nice. It doesn't brew a whole pot but I think it's at least 4-6 cups. Pretty good considering table top appliances like that require a ton of energy. Andrew Medeiros I agree. I wish Makita saw this post. They loosing business. I just can’t believe they can’t come up with a cordless table saw. Come on. It’s ridiculous. All they need to do a 36 volt saw undermount. I did a modification. Took my old Bosch table saw pulled out the electric motor, and installed a 18 volt cordless saw bolted underneath and works great. Only bad thing I can’t raise the saw up and down. But I only rip 3/4” stock. I’m a precise person installing cabinets and does fine cutting fillers. But Makita needs to step it up. I saw The Milwaukee table saw, I like it a lot but I don’t want to jump into another platform.

Makita is my choice after seeing what the other trades use here in the northeast US. Electricians and plumbers like Milwaukee as they cater to them with their big batteries and nice hole saw kits. But for carpentry Makita is a better choice, a tried and true, durable tool (as seen by Home Depot rental center's use of mostly Makita). Every framing crew uses the Makita circular saw. Their routers, chop saws, planers, sawzalls, and grinders are some of the best. You couldn't find many cons but Makita is not known for their nail guns, but that market is cornered by just a few brands.

I love every one of my Makita tools. Being in pretty much all of the well known brands, I have great appreciation for each one. But, I just enjoy using my Makita stuff, maybe more than any other brand. They’re just comfortable, ergonomic and smooth operating. I also really like my Hitachi Triple Hammer, as it has a very similar feel to Makita’s impact drivers. Smooth. I feel that if you use your tools to make a living and you don’t specialize in one thing, then you’re best off being in multiple platforms to open up your options. I’d say if I had to pick only two brands it would be Makita and Milwaukee hands down. Between the two, I can accomplish a wide array of tasks efficiently and enjoyably. In the shop, in the yard, on the job, on the vehicle and so on... the only problem I’ve experienced with Makita is the spindle in the plastic chucks on their lighter duty drills becomes wobbly, which happened on my sub compact drill driver as well as my 12v CXT brushless hammer drill and after only minimal use. It was disappointing to me to see this happen as I really liked using both of the drills. Still my favorite brand regardless and I just wouldn’t recommend buying a drill with a light weight plastic chuck from Makita. Although, I have a brushless LXT drill/driver with a plastic chuck that’s solid as a rock so maybe it’s just those two smaller models that have problems... Enjoyed the video.

I still have that 3/8 drill from the 80's ; I purchased it off a Snap -On truck! It still works just fine although I had to get a new NiCad battery for it recently! I have several of their recent cordless impacts 1/2" drive and 3/8" (brushless). The black colored line really is quite small (sub-compact and brushless). I have no problems with their tools, none.

Not sure about the out-there colors but my understanding is that Teal=Normal and Made in China, Black=Sub Compact, Red=Normal and Made in Japan. I think the white was their "consumer" stuff, but that came and went real fast going to teal. I've never seen the other colors out in the wild. I like Makita, they're highly regarded for a good reason. Quality tools, great reliability. The thing that truly sold me on them though is the ergonomics. They seem to really care about how a tool will feel in the hand. This is especially helpful for me with my smaller hands.

I was torn on Makita vs the Milwaukee fuel line. Finally settled on some Makita tools based on what I wanted after a lot of research. But one thing anyone using the big three can agree on: the competition keeps innovation and pricing good for all of us. In general, you can't really go wrong with Makita, Milwuakee, or DeWalt. Not a fan of Ryobi, but I like the options they're bringing to the table.

Regarding the Makita presence in home depot, I've talked to the department manager and he said if I he could he'd downsize the Makita display because he sells so much more Milwaukee, DeWalt and even Ridgid. That's gonna vary by region and store but it does go along with the indication that Makita has higher sales to more industrial customers that don't go to home depot very often. ACME tools and Ohio power tool seem to run some pretty good deals on Makita and I suspect they sell quite a lot of it. I've heard pretty much no complaints about Makita for durability. In terms of performance they're really pushing it with their current top impact driver and their 36v circular saw looks like it's really close to the fastest on the market. One thing that you either love or hate is the 2 battery 36v system. On one hand it allows higher powered tools without leaving your battery platform but in pinch you can't use just one battery to make a couple last cuts. The other thing Makita messed up on is many of their tools such as 36v circular saws and a few other 36v tools is they made the space between the batteries and below them too small to future expansion with 21700 cells. They could probably get up to an 8.0ah battery but anything more would be too tall for several tools. I think that's why they are bringing out the 40v system, so that they have a heavy duty battery that can be expanded upon in the future. But the only issue with the 40v is you have to have a 10 cell pack, or you can't get 40v. In order to get more than 4.0ah in the current cell capacity they'd have to do a 20 cell battery which would be even bigger than Milwaukee's, DeWalt's, and Bosch's 12.0 batteries. Now 4.0ah at 40v is still a ton of power and I suspect most users won't have any trouble keeping a charges battery on hand, I wish Makita would look ahead in terms of their battery systems to account for increases in output and capacity. The other side to that is I like that they're not just copying Milwaukee, DeWalt and Bosch by making a 12.0 battery. Not that 12.0 is bad but Makita is clearly going their own way. Great video as always Bear!

When it came time to purchase new tools, it had to be Makita. I did a lot of research and asked tradesmen what they prefer and why. The number one answer was Makita, my neighbor who is a very experienced journeyman electrician said that it's the only brand he's ever used where the battery didn't eventually come loose and start falling out on its own. Others said "because they just work dependably." Doing research online, I honestly couldn't find anything people were saying that was bad...besides the color. lol In all fairness, the second favorite of people asked seemed to be Milwaukee, but again the neighbor said he's even had Milwaukees have that battery issue. Thanks for the video, I've been waiting for you to do something on Makita!

I've been a big Milwaukee fan and used their NiCad cordless tools for a long time personally and professionally. I like their M18 line too but they seemed to run a bit too hot and even smoked a hammer drill while just going through a 10 inch brick retaining wall - not exactly abusing the tool but what killed them for me was how they discontinued all battery support for the older Nicad tools. They had a V18 battery that's $150 now (and no charger for it) so all I'm left with are 3rd party ebay/amazon batteries or having to repack them myself so now I'm starting to move towards Makita for my personal tools and love how they work and feel. I still like Milwuakee and use them but the Makitas seem to pay attention to small detail more and they don't run as hot.

Should've listed both Miss Makita and Senorita Makita under the good. I own a ton of Makita tools probably close to 50 just in the 18v/36v LXT lineup alone and have had great success with all of them, but they do come out with those weird items like that coffee maker (1 cup per battery) and that robotic vacuum which runs almost 1k brand new (no thanks). Glad you mentioned that angled impact which is a real dog. I recently spoke with a Makita rep and it looks like they're ramping up tools for their brushless 12v lineup to compete with Milwaukee and DeWalt which is kind of annoying since certain tools like the cordless air compressor (tires) and their laser levels are 12v only at this time. Good video, thanks!!

A few years ago I got a Christmas gift of a 12V Makita driver and drill. To say I am impressed with this little lightweight driver and drill is a understatement. I done everything with that driver and drill. They make a really fine tool and the one thing I like is the fact it was very comfortable in my hand compared to the other brands. I have smaller hands and these tools have the ergonomics down to a T for me. I had a buddy complain about the smaller size handle size of the Makita 12V line but for me it is the goldilocks of drivers not to small not to big to be uncomfortable. I also like the fact that the battery can be charge relatively quickly. Great brand and none of the overblown hype of the red brand.

I used to manage the Makita factory service center in Ottawa Canada. Want to know the most common repair we did? Installing new power cords for guys that got caught on the job site by the provincial safety inspector making cuts without guards in place and had their tool disabled by cutting off the plug. Lol True story, I swear. Also had electricians and plumbers literally pay to build the old 7.2v cordless drills entirely from scratch with new replacement parts because they would fit where others wouldn't in confined space work and they hated using anything else. Had 5 or 6 different guys do this and boy was it costly but they didn't care. They just didn't want the aggravation and knew what they liked.

I used to build office cubicles and corporate office furniture for the phone company back in the day. All we used were the 9.6 volt Makita drills. They took a ton of abuse the clutch system on them sounded terrible however, never quit working. Like you said the weakest link is the availability, only one store and limited items at that. When I'm working on a job site and a tool or battery fails, and all tools fail at sometime or another I'm not going to wait and fix it I'm going to the store and buying a new one to get the job done and I want to go to the closest store. I'd used Milwaukee professionally for years and recently I made the conscience effort recently to switch from Milwaukee to Makita and so far I have no regrets. There is just simply some things that Milwaukee either does not make or their offering just looks cheap. For instance when I went looking for a cordless track saw Milwaukee didn't have one on the market. Makita's was not only available but on par (and compatible) with the WAY over-priced Festool. I do have no gripe about a comment you made regarding Makita's availability as I just find it not to be true....or at least no more or less true than that same statement would be for Big Red. Here in the Mid-West we have three different home improvement type big box stores; Home Depot, Lowes and Menards. While you will not find Makita at Menards or Lowes you also won't find Milwaukee there either.
