Well here it is..... Milwaukee's M18 Track Saw against my Makita XGT Track Saw. I own both of these tools and I wanted to see how they compared to each other. Both saws did NOT disappoint! I will just say that.

If not a pro, it's hard to justify the $250 makita 40v batteries. The M18 is much cheaper to buy batteries for, but the Makita is a better battery. The Makita 36v saw is a great option for anyone with a 18v system already, but it won't work with just one battery like the festool. Mafell puts all of then to shame, especially for a 10" option for cutting big slabs.

You should have used the same blade in speed testing because the blade makes a difference. Have you seen the video of Oz-tool-talk that the makita with a makita blade beats the dewalt flex volt with a dewalt blade but using the same diablo blade the dewalt beats the makita xgt noticeably

For me, upgrading to the 40v was great for just the 40v line. It's a good upgrade I think, over the 36v for not dealing with two 18v batteries as long as you already have milwaukee batteries and not buying a new battery line. If not, I'd stick with the Makita.

Thanks for the review. I’m 100% on the M18 line (they have the best nailers and drivers), but I’ve never been impressed with their circular saws. I’ve been on the fence between these two saws, so thank you for the comparison. If I go with the XGT my thought was to have my miter saw and track saw on that line, with everything else on m18. After other reviews I thought I was going with the Milwaukee, but after this review I’m back on the fence, so thanks for that 😂

Interesting video! Milwaukee track saw has yet to be released in Australia. If Makita made a mk2 track saw, I would like to see two depth lines like the Festool and Milwaukee track saws. I've used the XGT track saw and found it a joy. Unfortunately, they don't have a riving knife because it automatically cuts out if it has any resistance.

Who in the hell will run their saw that fast. Dumbest test ever. They are designed for accuracy and functionality not Daytona or formula 1 racing 😂. For me. I choose Milwaukee battery tools because I have most of their tools over 10 years now and all still running strong. I’ve use many other tools no tools have better battery life then Milwaukee. Not to mention most of their tools are high quality. I also own the makita plunge saw. I do not like it at all. The depth settings is horrible, they don’t stop right away on release. On my opinion the Milwaukee have much better torque when cutting thick hard wood

I don't own either of these (yet), but every other professional I heard from favors the power of the Milwaukee over the Makita 40v (even Rob Robillard,, who recently adopted the Makita 40v line for his business). But unlike this test, these professionals tested the saws on hardwood and not just OSB (and particularly hard hardwoods at that). The Makita 40v is rated at 2,500 - 4,900 RPMs, while the Milwaukee goes up to 6,300 RPMs (no load 2,500-5,600). Remember, voltage is not necessarily always going to mean more power. Total wattage is equal to volts x current (measured in amps). So higher voltage just means you don't have to draw as much current to get to the same power (measured in watts). It's why a high-current 70w Harman Kardon amplifier is more powerful than a 100w Sony (which is lower current with a higher voltage and thus higher wattage rating). The bottom line is that if you're strictly doing sheet goods, I think the Makita lacking a riving knife is a great tool. However, if you want to saw hardwoods, clearly the Milwaukee has the upper hand.

Brilliantly stated. I too agree that @Milwaukeetool Track Saw is the superior tool to @Makita Tool. I’m not impressed with pushing tools to failure to prove a point. Trade workers do not use tools in this fashion. It’s haphazard, and costly when mistakes are made.

Higher rpms does not mean it has more power, or even that it will cut faster. I haven't used the Makita, but that Milwaukee burns through batteries even faster than their table saw. If you need to use it all day, make sure you have some 12s charged up to go with it
@DESX312
@DESX312 8 ай бұрын
Everyone I have seen only mentions preferring the Milwaukee for its depth adjustment. Haven't heard anyone say the Milwaukee had more power. The listed RPMs don't mean anything. What are the CONSTANT RPMs UNDER LOAD? That's the important part. Tools and stuff stated in his review that even though the OLD Makita 18xw (36V) track saw had higher listed RPMs..... That the new 40v XGT line had higher RPMs under load and kept more torque on the blade. Thus, it performed quite a bit faster than the older 36v saw. I'd bet money that the Makita 40v cuts faster and keeps higher constant RPMs under load than the Milwaukee pretty easily.

Why don’t you use real world working test instead of NASCAR test 😂? Milwaukee saw way better engineers, try use their high output battery and it will put the Makita to shame. Milwaukee way better dust collection, much easier to change blades, better depth adjustment, better swapping 1 batteries vs 2, lighter, have both left and right splint protection, better visible depth reading, better in saving $ on battery because only need 1, have riving knife, easy scribe depth, share batteries with any of the M18, blade break, better rail lock for 45 angle cuts, I own both and I can say I use the Milwaukee way more then Makita just because how easy all the adjustment on Milwaukee. Not to mention the box it comes with pack out system. Have extra room for other tools. Box easy to open vs Makita pain in butt to open and lock. Better quality build on pack out. Also the Milwaukee have brake system to prevent kick back vs the Makita will continue to run after stopping.

Great video. I recently bought the festool 2 times 18 36 volt. Festool has done away with the riving knife and opted for emergency stop once the spring loaded knife or once the machine is lifted and leaves the track. I was going to purchase the metabo. The metabo has a deeper cut of 66mm compared to 55 mm for the festool. The Milwaukee has about 54mm I think. The Milwaukee has had some good reviews and said to be more powerful then the festool cordless. I bought a 40 volt makita and and inflator so I can move onto the makita platform. First I out a down payment on the 18 volt inflator. When I seen the 40 volt inflator I changed to the 40 volt. I still need to purchase the charger. At least when new tools come in the market I will already have battery and charger. Im thinking of the 185mm plunge saw opposed to the 165 mm blade. Also the 185mm cold cut saw which may also run on a track. Milwaukee make nice blades. Great video. It was helpful and shows the larger volt battery perhaps makes the machine not work as hard compared to the amperage on a lower volt machine. However. I believe the milwaukee is sufficient in most tasks. For me if one is to do a lot of work, having two machines may be a good idea so one can cool down. Not over heat etc. Therefore prolonging longer life on the tools.

Do you need to cut laminated worktops upside down because of the upward cutting?
@jameskirk3
@jameskirk3 2 күн бұрын
No, you can set the depth to scoring depth so the blade is only cutting with the very tip, and the cut slices forward, not up and down. The tracks have a 0 clearance edge, but some hard.laminates still chip. With the scoring feature, it produces a quality of cut on par with dual blade commercial sliding table saws that have a scoring blade and a main blade, you just have to make two cuts. One to score, one to cut the material below the laminate.
@jameskirk3

FWIW festool has a saw with a separate scoring blade in front of the main blade. So just one cut, if you're in a production setting.

It is, however, the basic makita 36V saw that he is comparing to the TSC 55. Source 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp66kJapj6p7l80 at 17:00 to 19:00 The video material shows that, compared to the 36V Makita, the XGT Model can make a cut in about half the time if pushed hard. That only means that the XGT saw is indeed more powerful than the festool. Another KZbinr from Germany, Gotools, also noted that the normal 36V Makita Saw is more powerful than the cordless festool saw when tested with equal saw blades. I can only take away from the video above that the XGT model is, as stated, more powerful than the Milwaukee Tracksaw. All that - proves the Makita XGT Tracksaw is the most powerful cordless tracksaw in the world. No offense, i love festool products and use a few of them. I even had a corded festool tracksaw at one point. But I returned it after rethinking my purchase. Compared to my last cordless 36V Makita it was 1. Heavy, 2. Loud as hell, 3. Bulky and lastly around twice as expensive. I´d love if the festool was better because it is manufactured in my country but... it just isnt.
