This Works! I thought my metal key cylinder went bad. I followed the video. I had trouble connecting to the red / positive on the car with my power source clamp. The clamp was to big. I used my number 13 socket to extend the nut to connect to the red. I could not get my instrument panel to light up after a while. What he calls a little juice. I decided to try my metal key in the truck despite no visible signs of "a little juice." . It worked! It only needed a little juice. I now have trunk open and am charging the battery directly. I had thought that the cylinder was bad and would have to replace it. My mechanic wanted to drill a hole behind the license plate to pull the metal lock cord to open the latch. Believe me, I know how to use the metal key. I have a short that no mechanic has been able to fix that drains my battery. I use the metal key OFTEN if I have to jump the car. The metal key still works even if the battery is dead. I think the metal key will not work if the battery is completely dead as in my case. Thank you for this video. For you skeptics, what do you have to lose if you have deader than dead battery. This worked for me! Who would have thought that a mechanical key needs even a tiny bit of power to open the trunk.

Great video, one correction, the valet key actually does unlock the trunk when the battery is completely dead, it does on my 2002 S430 at least. It just seems like it doesn't work because you have to turn the key while pushing up on the plastic button next to it in just the right sequence. Being a small key, it's difficult to turn also. It has taken me up to 5 minutes to get the right turn/push sequence but it eventually works if you stick with it. EDIT: I noticed Lockemeister posted this below so I will try that next time: "Insert blade key, turn to approximately the 10 o'clock position and then lift up on the lever above the licence plate while opening the trunk."

I have the same year. I watched and proceeded to remove passenger panel and it had already been removed. Does this mean the previous owner had battery issues? Battery is over 1 year old. I just got the car like 5 months ago. Completely dead battery. Trunk wont open. Going to get my battery charger tomorrow.

If I'm not mistaken there are a positive and a negative post under the hood in the engine compartment that accesses your battery. They're designed to jump start the car from the outside.

Dead battery, and of course figured out the problem I was in after the first 20 minutes messing with the valet key and the key slot. No matter what I do, that bugger won't open. Will have to get the MacGyver pants on and see how I progress... Wish me luck!

On my 2005 E500 W211 there's a two step process for opening the truck with the blade key. Insert blade key, turn to approximately the 10 o'clock position and then lift up on the lever above the licence plate while opening the trunk.

Yes, the valet key works on my 2002 S430 also. It always takes a lot of fiddling to get it to work however, I keep turning the key and pushing the button and it eventually pops the trunk. I will try the 10 o'clock position first next time, thanks Lockemeister.

Thanks for this my problem was I locked the keys in the trunk dow still had juice on battery got the door opened but the boot switch didn't work so drilled a hole in the licence plate nope didn't work took the seat out the back and it had a plate so we cut through the arm rest back panel and got a long grip handle and got the keys luckly battery was still charged having doors opend and alarm going of . Is there a easier way please.

I did this on my W215 and there was an Alpine TV transmitting unit (about 6 inch square in size) there but no positive terminal?! Maybe its on the driver side.

Hi! I have a question, A few days ago my car battery died, therefore I cannot open it with the electronic key. I know that you can only open the driver's door mechanically, the problem is that I parked next to a wall and I cannot enter the vehicle, I can only reach the handle to open the hood (when I parked I left through the passenger door). If I jump start the battery with another car, is it possible to charge it enough so central lock will work again and if so, I will be able to enter the car through the passenger door with the electronic key (keyless system)?

ONLY issue you might face is SOMETIMES if Benz battery left dead too long it gets amnesia sometimes requiring reprogramming for basic features like keyless entry Not sure length of time so get her charger ASAP & let the community know how it worked out for you 🤙🏿

If you jump start the car, pushing the button in the door that opens the trunk will work again to open the trunk. Just did it on my Mercedes 500 SL. Once I opened the trunk, I charged the trunk battery.

@@xaviers.2271 As far as I remember, (-) there as on the video, and (+) immediately to the red wire. It is very difficult to make mistakes. If it is quite difficult, you can check it with a voltmeter. But the idea is as on the video, and everything is in the same place.

agm battery requires a minimum charge over a long period for example I just completed a charge for a friend who got a 2007 e350 he was told theres a charge problem the problem is no one reads . if your using a agm battery and it goes dead or must be charged manually meaning your cars alternator wont do it it must be charged with a charger that has a agm option basically it monitors the inside and adjusts accordingly for example last nite I started a charge on a battery that was at 0vdc for the the battery to read 1vdc it took 1hr I know it sounds incorrect as most if us knowing a lead acid battery agm is absorbent glass mat..... 2amp charge for 26hrs brought it to 100% then I gave it a break tested in 2 hrs at 95% now it is being charged to 110% capacity which these batteries are designed to accept so u understand a agm battery like this an h6 in size runs about 160.00 to 259.00 so with that being said I completed charge battery tested at 99% under stactic 91%under load I'm on way to return 250.00 that was to buy battery funny shit by the way this battery I charged was sitting for over a year on ground assumed junk

If you use a large charge put it on 6v 15 amps and it work every time. Don't do all the work with the license plate etc. This is it. 30 minutes, done.

I like this method better and have used it twice; once on my vehicle and again on a friends. Who the he'll has time to locate the alternator then hope you have comnected properly or even knows what it looks like....I just want to drive, not be a mechanic. Why did you go through all that trouble when all you had to do was open the bonnet their is a box by the breaks fluid reservoir with the Positive terminal to the Battery in trunk...connect the power supply then open the trunk with remote or key... Simple.

Do you really think Mercedes build a car and expect you to do all that to get the trunk/boot open in the case of a flat or disconnected battery..... Get real. You use the key from the fob. Turn the key and you pull the trunk release latch.

When you don't know something, it's just better to be quiet, alot of Mercedes car when the battery is disconnected, the latch on the trunk will not work and no key will open it, and this info, I got if from a MERCEDES dealership when I went through the same issue, so yes this is how at the MERCEDES dealership they will open your trunk....

@@davidmendes563 Call Mercedes and they will confirm that when you use the key and the release latch, it is purely a mechanical operation. They will further confirm that they have never manufactured a car where the trunk/boot cannot be opened in this way. When you have a situation where it won't release, it's due the release latch not functioning properly.

That's useless.. the trunk can be opened with the metal key inside the remote digital key.. you take that metal key out from the remote...you enter it into the trunk lock,twist clockwise, KEEP IT TWISTED and then push up..and that's it! Simple as that You welcome 😉

🤣 not all keys were created equal my friend. Tried the key. Up to point of breaking it. Over time sometimes the mechanism just gets corroded stuck hard to do or just plain impossible. The video was meant for those who like myself despite multiple and varied attempts key wouldn’t do it. Cheers

I would have said the say thing. You would think that it is just a mechanical key. I have an issue with my car, S500 2003 where the battery can only be started if it was used within the past 12 hours. It has a short somewhere that is draining the battery. I have had multiple mechanics try to fix it without success. I have used the metal key to open the truck more times in the past three years that I care to count. I know how to use this key. However, I let the car sit to long with a dead battery. For the first time, the metal key would not work. It just kept turning. I tried everything. Believe me I know how to use the metal key. I connected a power source as described in this video. Nothing after ten minutes. I decided to try the metal key in the truck. It opened right up. The little bit of power connect under the dash did something. I am not charging the battery directly in the trunk now. I thought I was going to have to replace the key cylinder. Note: my power source clamps / connectors would not attach to the nut under the dash because they were to big clip on. I put my socket, #13, on the nut to make the connection with the red / positive connector. It was enough to get my key to work. Please don't be so quick to comment. I think the guy who made the video would have used the key if he could have. My alternative was to have a hole drilled behind the license plate and pull the lock cord to get the truck open. The first choice is always the key. I personally do not understand why even a little power is necessary to use the metal key. But it is true.

I've opened the trunk of my 2000 S class with the metal key many times without even having a battery connected.. because my car was sitting for a long time i always took the battery out. Like this: 1- lock the car with trunk open 2- take out the battery. And that was it. Next: after more than one month; 1-open the trunk with the metal key 2- connect the same battery that was left there.. and wait about 1 minute.. then unlock and start te car.

I know, it doesn’t make sense. I’ve done the same as you. I would disconnect the black cable if parked at the airport and use the metal key to get in, then connect the black cable and be in my way. I have had to use the metal key at least 100 times. Never failed. This time the key kept going round and round. I thought it was going to break. I even needed a wrench to turn the key. The mechanic told me they do fail after a while. They have replaced many. I thought it had failed and needed to be replaced. After I connected a little juice under the passenger side dash, I decided to try the key again. To my surprise it opened like it had so many times before. Before I dismantled under the dash, I tried the key just in case. It failed! so, I went under the dash to connect some juice. Logic says, it doesn’t make sense. Both of us have disconnected the battery and used the metal key before. ???? I’m glad it did work. Maybe someone can tell us why. If your key ever does fail and you have no power, give it a try. What do you have to lose?
