SPOILERS: Mako lowkey a goat bro. Im not gonna lie, hated him in the first part of the series but when i rewatched he became my favorite character. The pressure of raising Bolin alone on the streets kind of justifies his stubbornness. We also see him deeply caring for his friends and especially his brother even if it means he has to risk his life. Honestly hes behind Zuko for me for best character development. When he also electrocuted Ming Hua i was seriously hyped up.

2:50 it was at this moment Lightning Lord was born equal to Melon Lord in power. No but seriously even the music builds triumphant as he takes both Iroh and Ozai's signature feats and combines them to defend the city Zuko and Aang built. That birthed him. What is this show bruh?! He double fisted the lightning into the core and the actual Colossus it overloads the generators he gets struck by it and redirects it back while still firing both bolts. Lightning Bolt Zolt would be proud. You can see both purple/pink and blue lightning at the same time while he's walking to the hatch. But you can see his purple eyes at 2:54 in the most epic freeze frame as he goes Thunderer on Republic City. So epic. Really wish they used him more but dude really took the two most epic fire nation feats and used them both at the same time. Chadko!

Mako’s sacrifice was a true piece of cake. While Korra did defeat the Earth Empire leader Kuvira, Mako completely destroyed the robot with his electricity element, and yet it caused him a permanent scarring on his arm and injuring him for most of “Turf Wars” three-part story, his sacrifice actually caused the world to be forever spared by the Colossus beast.

If anyone noticed Mako was actually grounding himself the whole time with his second hand. Anyone ever thought of an explanation? I had an idea that the spirit wines here are just a huge unrechargeable battery. If u put too much energy into any battery, it explodes like irl (you see it here). And also if you short it out, it will explode (provided that the conductor does not have high resistance that will make it act as a fuse). And if it is a battery it must have a positive and a negative for power to be drawn from it. The positive were the 2 metal coils on top of the wines, while the negative probably was the whole mecha suit body. Mako essentially created a short circuit between wines and mecha body by grounding himself and zapping the wines at the same time, while also acting as a power source himself. The combination of the two probably got the job done, while at the end he collapsed cause he himself also had some resistance to power flow which he could not cope with anymore (kinda like if you put too small of a capacitor in a circuit, it will explode or burn out). I doubt that they thought of that when they animated this scene, probs just looked more badass compared to the variant where he just holds it out in the air😂

I definitely think there was some thought in there given that's exactly why Zuko gets zapped near fatally- and while Mako does get zapped, he probably was able to survive with little medical intervention considering he is awake looking for Korra a couple scenes later. In Zuko's case, he is entirely off the ground with no stance to channel that power anywhere other than his center and isn't able to release the charge until he is grounded again and it travels out his other hand. Whereas Mako is able to keep grounded even when pushed back the first time. Since lightningbending no longer became shielded from common folk and eventually used as an income earner, I bet it's imperative to teach these benders to remain grounded if redirecting the charge. Everytime a bender redirects lightning they have a grounding point. The artists are deliberate with many of these forms given how much they have to reference real martial arts!

I am glad this has a great explanation like this. I always thought he was transmitting energy too but transmitting charge is better since the lightning in this scene is more like electricity which involves electrons. It is a great scene truly.
