“ we care for lives and the welfare of the people“. Was he joking or what? Unarmed civilians were killed in Juba in their homes by the government soldiers. Is this caring? Perhaps he means the government cares for the lives of certain people in the country, Dinka. We have seen a lot of development recently in Bhar Elghazal and Bor while the other areas are neglected and marginalised just like what the Jalaba did. The government is not going to win elections unless it cheats. No South Sudanese in his/her right mind can vote for criminals who have no regard for their lives. Yes, the government is going to cheat and that is why they are determined to conduct the elections although the implementation of the peace agreement is not finished. They see elections as a way to get rid of their political enemies. Once they win by cheating, they will dissolve the unity government and sack everyone who is not on their side. People like Makuei can’t wait for that moment.
