I stumbled upon something online which really stunned me the other day. I found something describing "the smell of rain", which instantly made me think of this song, with the "you are the smell before rain" line. The piece I was reading used the word 'Petrichor' - the actual scientific name that describes the smell that we associate with rain. I looked up this word 'Petrichor' and found: "Petrichor (from Greek 'petra' meaning stone, + 'ichor' the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology) is the name of the scent of rain on dry earth." This astounded me, surely the "blood in my veins" line must be referring to this? It's far too much of a coincidence. This has just made me appreciate Jesse's lyrical genius to a whole new level... Such an obscure phrase, but ties two beautiful yet seemingly unconnected lines so perfectly together.

I don’t know what it could mean to me yet but listening to it just made me think of this really nice back in the summer when it felt cool enough to wear a jacket but have it not be freezing. It was absolutely perfect. I went for a walk around my neighborhood and felt really nostalgic about an old place near there. Life is funny and sad and draining but at least this music fills me up again when I’m chilling underneath my covers on a school night.

I saw this tweet not too long ago that said they'd never forgive jesse for ruining brand new for them and honestly same. I used to love them and their music helped me so much but smh
