Malaska Golf

5 жыл бұрын

You see a lot on TV about rotation to gain more distance with your driver. And, yes, rotation is a speed generator. However, if you don't understand the basic lever system and how the L-to-L works, you'll never hit the ball very far.
Work on the L-to-L with your right foot back and build the foundation for generating speed with your driver.
Don't just play golf. Understand it. Add 15 years to your game. Become a member at malaskagolf.com. Follow The M-System to learn step-by-step with Mike, and develop the skills you need to become a complete player.
Add distance to your drives with less stress on your body.

Having been away for over a year, I had to return to dump the trash I had listened to during my hiatus and refresh my swing thoughts to your more commons sense approach. Some of the teachers would hit on a point here and there but the whole motion was too mechanical and driven by having to attain many defined positions during the swing to get it right. I ended up taking a point here and a point there that made sense to me and realized my compilation was very familiar...It was Mike Malaska golf. So, I return having relearned simple solutions to a complex problem almost always work more effectively and efficiently. Thank you for that.

Very true. You have to use all that power and brace against the left side on the down swing before whipping the hands through. I started hitting it better by “shortening” my swing going L to L and not over rotating on the back swing. L to L and better tempo helped me a ton.

You are definitely a great game changer, coach, explainer. Keep bringing your great content. Much appreciated!

This is so spot on. I got a length of pvc (because you can hear your speed) and swung it three ways: A) “Mostly wrists” B) Something akin to the “L to L” with a narrower stance and minimal body movement, and 3) The dreaded “Rotate-until-your-spine’s-about-to-snap-wreck-your-hips-and-back-in-a-hellish-attempt-to-muscle-the-club-through”. While the ol’ Twist-n-Grunt technique *will* deliver the arms and hands quick’ish... I was amazed that I HEARD the L to L was indeed faster. (And less painful, and more repeatable.)

Your momentum theory of golf makes more mechanical sense to me versus the layoff catch up swing. With your method you are using gravity as an additional source of power called potential energy. With the wrap around method where the clubhead goes behind your hands, you must overcome the inertia of the club head with very little help from gravity. Makes perfect sense to me.

Mike thanks for all the videos and teaching. I used to fire hip and turn shoulder so at impact my right foot was barely on the ground. With your theory I feel easier swing and stable lower half. I’ve been doing drills for the dipping feel and for L to L it works perfect, but with long irons and full swing it’s often a straight push and with driver it’s push fade or slice. What might be the causing this ? Thanks again

This is exactly my problem, over rotating. What I find most helpful is to keep my left eye on the ball. This keeps my head behind the ball and allows me to generate speed with my arms. If I rotate my head around too early, my chest opens up way too much. It feels like keeping my left eye on the ball keeps my eyeline stable on my target line. Like a visual "anchor" for my swing. When my head moves, my sense of swing direction gets disoriented and I can't find target. Great video mike.
@MrPixelous
@MrPixelous 5 жыл бұрын
More importantly than keeping you left eyee on the ball (in my opinion) is the turning of the head and tucking that left chin in behind the ball. If you watch any good golfer, regardless of swing, they all have that chin pointed to the right behind the ball.

Very interesting video, I came across this while searching for a solution of how to hit my driver & irons better. I will try this L-L concept. My PGA Pro at my club never mentioned this, he focuses on the rotation portion. This is also contrary to another You Tube PGA teaching pro out of Las Vegas that focuses on hitting with the body, rotate the belt buckle to the target. How does your method differ?

Mike is 100% on the money! Think about it logically for a second. Something MUST slow to accelerate something else. Example: the club can't move fast on both ends at the same time! The end of the grip and the head of the club don't both move fast simultaneously! The handle MUST slow somewhere in the swing to propel the club head. In other words you can't move your torso, arms, hands, grip, and club head all fast at the same exact time. That's super weak! Another illustration: what moves faster? a. A person on a motorcycle going 100mph. b. A person who was going 100mph and SLAMMED the front brakes. Should be obvious. So when Mike uses that example of their body slowing and pivoting that is the mechanism. That drill he does at 3:20 would make you actually hit it farther then you currently do. Try it. It's because the CLUB actually release.

Without naming him, Mike takes a real jab at G Gankas methods here. I had to laugh. As a 62 year-old, I can't swing like GG's youngsters or even come close. Mike's method makes a lot more sense for the majority of us, I think. On the other hand, I still point to other lessons where Mike explains to an LPGA player, Margarita, that the "hands do nothing through the impact position". Mike, I am having a hard time reconciling that lesson to the L swing imperatives.
@m3toz4
@m3toz4 3 жыл бұрын
GG is legit, GG just emphasizes the body movement correctly. With arms wrists and shoulder relax and in the right position, they will react to the body and that how you can control your swing by body movement.

Absolutely correct. This is how the right sequence is taught. Only thing that I found different is that the wrist lever system only work until the impact. After impact wrist has to be firm , otherwise it’s all wrist and less body release. There is no L on the follow through side like that.

Mike is not saying roll release...he teaches that the face stays square to the arc.... the rolling of the firearms at impact is an illusion because of body rotation. The forearms will eventually roll well past impact as the lead arm folds to the top of the finish.

Hmm interesting how he argues that you don’t just rotate and demonstrates dragging the club around. I have never seen any quality instructors teach anything resembling that. However if the tension levels are low in the hands and arms and the pivot of the body is done correctly the club releases and squares itself due to many physics principles to complex to explain here. It seems to me that learning to pivot the club with the hands and arms requires more timing and is redundant.
