Hey Nonstop dan! as you said why don’t they keep the lounge open in the main terminal. And close the lounge in the satellite terminal. Is cause most of the Malaysian long-haul flights depart form the satellite terminal and not from the main terminal. And the satellite terminal has a better Lounge than the main terminal.

The Malaysia Airlines lounge in the Satalite terminal is the main lounge and is far nicer and larger than in the main terminal. It also has a first class section unlike the other lounge.

Correct you are Ryan. Most international flights in my experience depart from the Satellite terminal hence mostly 737s at the main terminal.. Although my last flight to Auckland departed from the main terminal on a A332. Disappointingly, for usd170, I think Dan was a tad petty in his criticisms of MH. Post Covid19 it will be interesting to see how many AvGeek vloggers are still around. Some seriously bad shit is happening and there are higher priorities than not getting lounge access. Hi Dan, I had flown Malaysia Airlines to and from Sydney to KUL on both the A330 and A380 and had no issues at all with the cabin crew or the airline at all. I do understand as i used to work within the Airline Industry it is subjective, but when i flew MH, i found the staff to be extremely attentive and welcoming, but i have heard of people not having the greatest of experiences. Travelled from Delhi to Malaysia and then Malaysia to Bali for my honeymoon 3.5 years ago. It was also my first ever time on a plane. So it holds special to me. The bigger planes of the Malaysia Airlines are better imo. Smaller domestic ones, like from Malaysia to Bali are quite average. Still better than most Indian Airlines, so can't complaint.

The satellite terminal generally has more passengers and most of the flights there are long haul so if they were to close that lounge people would probably be more upset, the train ride is a good experience, you should have gone on it

As counterintuitive as it may sound, the satellite terminal is where MH's medium to long haul flights depart. This means that their flagship lounge is the one at the satellite terminal, not the main one.

Wow. You are upset that the Regional lounge in the main terminal - which only serves 738 flights - has been closed to help the airline survive this global problem? It was such an ache for you to take the train to the Satellite Terminal which is far superior? And by the way, the Satellite terminal serves the A380s and every other wide-body in the MH fleet and those from other carriers with lounge access rights. Your comment was pedantic and uncalled for. I don't think the "chaotic" in the title is justified. Not their fault Covid-19 led to the lounge closure. Having flown them in biz several times, what you got was par for the course for a regional flight. They'll never be SQ but then SQ probably wouldn't have sold you that ticket for $170. Also, don't book the last row if recline's important to you.

Okay , where do i start ........I am a Aussie living in Johor Bahru , Malaysia , the boarder city to Singapore. I do love Malaysia , and its people , but it is a crazy place to live . I describe to friends as .....Singapore the laws are made to control the people ,and the laws in Malaysia are made to be broken. I find Malaysian airlines /airports a little the same , kinda controlled chaos . Continual gate changes are the norm , always late ........and the aircraft's are always shabby , very very worn. Maintenance and upkeep is an Achilles heal of Malaysia. Yeah , a worry when it comes to aircraft. Day 5 of our lock down , i am crawling the walls , i am worried about the safety of our factory .......the word is the military is being mobilized tonight . Malaysia Airlines doesn't have a Lounge at the area where your aircraft was. Their Lounge is at the Sattelite Building where you have to take the aerotrain. Its not only Malaysia Airlines, So many Airlines rating have dropped. The design of nowdays Business Class seats are really-really nuts.

Malaysia Airlines has 3 lounges in KLIA ... 2 in the Main Terminal n 1 at the Sattelite Building... In the Main Terminal there are Domestic and Regional Lounges... Least amount of recline in a premium cabin? Avoid row 3 on the Air Canada Embraer 190 as it doesn't recline at all. Around 10 years ago I also flew on a US Airways A320 (former America West) plane and the seat had almost no recline even in row 2.

4:10 - There is a lounge in this terminal, however I believe it is closed at the moment due to low passenger flow, so the only one opening is the Satellite Terminal (where most International flights with wide bodies and foreign airlines are at) (and that lounge is WAYYY better than the main terminal one so... yea)

I have flown with Malaysia airlines numerous times from LHR to KUL and every time the service and food was brilliant but their shorter flights on 737s are chaotic and sometimes late or don’t show up and no staff are there to help but when you get help they give you free hotel and have really good hospitality

The Satellite lounge at KUL is at least 8x the size of the Regional lounge. Obviously makes sense to keep the larger of the two open- Satellite is also where all OneWorld carriers operate from. When Cathay started closing lounges they also closed the smaller ones first.

I work at the KLIA and for what as i know, they close the main terminal building (MTB) MH Golden Lounge at that moment because there is suspected pax for covid-19 reported and they have to close the lounge immidiately for inspection and disinfection process. And as for now, ALL lounges at the KLIA is closed due to the pandemic.

Hi Dan, Regarding the lounge situation in Kuala Lumpur, The majority of international flights as well as all long haul flights in Kuala Lumpur depart from the satellite terminal with the main terminal mainly being reserved for regional and domestic 737’s only. Therefore, I think that it was a wise decision by Malaysia airlines to only keep their satellite lounge open for the convenience of the most premium passengers.

I agree, Dan just isn't very familiar with KLIA. Same with Josh Cahill, who stated Malindo doesn't have a lounge for business class and just got a snack at Starbucks (which is one of the options). They do, they use the Sama Sama Lounge - which is located in the satellite. It helps to be much older than Josh & Dan, live in the region and have passed through this airport for decades.

It makes sense that they close the lounge in the main terminal. The one in the satellite terminal is their bigger lounge and can accommodate more passengers. Those who fly the B737 from the main terminal can easily get to the lounge at the satellite terminal, it doesn't take 10 minutes, it's barely 6 minutes. 2 minutes for the train ride and 4 minutes for walking.

Malaysian’s wide body long hauls (higher revenue) go from the remote terminal while domestic and regional go from the main. That’s why the lounge(s) are in the satellite. Surprised to see alcohol on a regional business class flight as they removed it a few years ago during severe cutbacks.

Just my personal preference and opinion about the lounge issue, 1) the satellite lounge is larger. not sure about MH's current load, but the main terminal lounge is considerably smaller in size, so may be clusterphobic when confined. At a time when distancing is crucial, a good choice to choose more spacious area. 2) More facilities at the satellite lounge. If I remember correctly, there's no facilities such as bar, shower and nap area in the main lounge. Trying to maintain certain level of service? 3) Main terminal is usually for shorter flights. I think people travelling shorter range, especially in business class tends to show up closer to departure time, and are less frequent to visit lounges (my personal opinion, no statistics!). The longer flights and larger aircrafts usually departs from the satellite terminal. Thus those transiting are more likely to use the satellite terminal on either or both their flights. 4) There's no first class lounge in main terminal. I may be wrong, but I don't think there is a first class lounge in the main terminal building. So if they want to continue provide first class lounge, makes more sense? Especially for the transit travelers, they're sure to use the lounge. I'm no insider, so it's all a guess game, and some of the info may be wrong. But I also do see your point as to prefer having the main terminal lounge open rather than the satellite one.

Hey Dan, the International Lounge in the main terminal has smaller capacity as compared to satellite. I can understand why they redirect to the satellite building. Furthermore, from the gate ur at to the satellite building is more or less 10 mins... Similar time required from the lounge in ngurah Rai to ur departure gate when u travel back but with more walking than the train which brings u to the satellite building in KLIA

Satellite terminal lounge is way better than main terminal due to most of the long haul flights are departing from satellite terminal. One of the reason your flight been downgraded to 737 instead of 333 is because there is not sufficient passenger take off on that day and sometimes even worse they will relocate you to the next flight due to insufficient passenger. If you’re flying 333 I think the entire biz class experience will be much pleasant. Hopefully you will still giving next chance to fly MH wide body aircraft. Stay home and stay safe 😷

This is what made me struggle between choosing MH and TG flying KUL-BKK in a couple month’s time. MH is one of two legacy carriers that does not offer wide bodies for ASEAN flights, PAL is a close second. I would have chosen Thai but it’s higher price, possible lack of lounge at KUL, and flight timings forced me to be practical and choose MH albeit reluctantly.

My son is in the US wanting to come home to Australia, he had his flight cancelled, booked another one and then had that cancelled so he said he’ll stay there and isolate with his girlfriend and her family but then he checked his travel insurance and it doesn’t cover pandemics so I told him to come home ASAP. I found him a flight, Boston/Dallas/Sydney. The airlines really screw you over at times like these, flight cost AUD $3,600. As I’m writing this on the 24th March he is literally boarding his flight in Boston.

MAS focuses on their Golden Lounge at the satellite terminal since that's where all the medium-long haul routes depart from. It might just be a case of closing for renovation since it's never been closed when I depart from KUL EDIT: Malaysia Airlines is my national carrier, but I refuse to fly with them (unless it's regional economy) because every aspect of their economy and premium products is average at best. The only thing I can say they are exceptionally good at is their premium on-board dining

Make sure u buy travel insurance when flying MAS.... they have a problem of missing/delayed baggages, tried it once and that was the last.
