Malaysia GE15: Nurul Izzah Anwar loses Permatang Pauh family seat, analysts react

Nurul Izzah Anwar, daughter of Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim, has lost the Permatang Pauh seat in Penang to Perikatan Nasional's Muhammad Fawwaz Mat Jan. The seat has been described as Anwar's "family seat".

No, she lost because ustaz Muhammad Fawwaz managed to woo many local first-time voters as well as the older generations to his side. That man wasn't a politician until recently, but he has been giving sermons and involved himself in various charitable activities throughout Permatang Pauh for years before GE15. PN cleverly picked him as their candidate and with his charitable background in and around Permatang Pauh as opposed to Nurul Izzah's absence while serving the Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, she lost some appeal for 'ignoring' her constituency. So don't start blabbering on these 'new voters from elsewhere' narrative. As sad as I am that she lost this seat (cuz I voted for her), I can see why Ustaz Fawwaz managed to break PH's traditional stronghold. Nurul Izzah can learn from this loss and come back wiser and stronger. I'm still supporting as she was the only MP who warned on the flood issue to Parliament in June last year, and it was proven correct when Selangor was hit with the worst flood ever in Dec later.

PKR's influence is waning, proven by the fact that they no longer represent the majority of PH voters (who voted for DAP).
