MALCOLM ROBERTS. SINGS MAY I HAVE THE NEXT DREAM WITH YOU CHARLES :TOBAIS

As a teenager in 1968 I recall this classical song being played on Radio One by the likes of Sam Costa or David Jacobs. In the charts with Des O' Connor and the Beatles it shows how lucky we were to listen to this music. I always feel the musical arrangements on these songs are sadly missed. Where are todays Les Read, George Martin, and Keith Mansfield's who produced so many hits like this in the 1960s

I have just heard this played on BBCR2's Pick of the Pops, and had almost forgotten what a superb number it is. I was 15 when Malcolm had this huge hit, and he was everything I wanted to be - tall, good looking, with nice teeth, but I never was and never will be... Thank you my friend.

Yes I heard it too the other day on Steve Wright's show and thought what a fabulous tune. I'd never even heard it before or him.

Put a comment last year about this song and also heard it played for a wider audience on BBC Pick of the pops last weekend on the charts from December 1968. Even the DJ Steve Wright, often a cynic on older hits praised the song. That year produced some of greatest songs and artists. Back in the 70s I saw Malcolm Roberts in a club in the North West, great song delivery. Also David Alexander who was a similar style. How unfair modern singers recording old classics have had huge rewards, while the two above never had, despite recording original hit songs.

This was a huge hit and even now at the age of 64 I have just found a new love to whom these words have been sent. Wonderful song with such meaningful words. One of the best singers of the era, sadly now gone, and his work not given the recognition it deserves both then and now. Olebuglerboy

For those of you in my generation born 1936, then this song will be remembered as the last tune at your local dance, where each couple (The girl you were in love with) you always danced to. Later it became the last waltz with Engelbert Humperdink.
