2:45 omg the precision of that little rhythm lick to compliment Angus’s solo. It’s why Malcolm Young is the greatest. And why playing a track together at the same time in the studio back in those days was so organic

When you listen to the differences between the UK release, and the reworked version (this one), the real brilliance of not just Mal, but also George (who joggled it all into shape) is there to hear - not one single note on Powwrage was random... it was all there by design, and it's all brilliant!
@terrystoner45044 жыл бұрын
Everyone thinks AC/DC is simple but the amount of on-the-beat / off-the-beat rhythms is probably the most difficult to play correctly in music, takes maximum concentration to maintain. Then keep that together with 3 other players, these guys weren't exactly back-water hick musicians.
@MrStooge.2 жыл бұрын
Very true. Most of it is on the off beat. That's what makes it groovy. But easy to play wrong.

@@mr.k905 You know, not sure. This was a year ago, so who knows what I was thinking? Maybe just the fact that there's a lot of "space" in the part. sort of the opposite of "wall of sound". But honestly? I was just running off at the mouth.

This ought to be played to all aspiring guitarists as a firm lesson of powerful, solid, masterful rhythm. I always loved acdc for Mal and Angus. As a lead player myself, I naturally lean in to Angus's playing. But Mal has an undeniable brute force and strength in his swing that would push me back and MAKE me listen in awe. Such a great musician. If you listen to this and think 'That's easy'. Well.. You're not only wrong, but you also missed the point! ✌️😊
@briansmith17603 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. I'm a rythym player and I always tell people who are starting to learn songs.......go home and throw on old acdc. If u wanna learn rythym, feel, precision timing etc.....the list of guitarists to study begins and ends with Malcolm Young.
@SeagoGuitarist3 жыл бұрын
@@briansmith1760 There's just something about him that is so grounded and authentic isn't there? He makes it sound easy and sure, you can 'play' like him without too much effort. You can definitely legitimately argue that AC/DC write 'easy' songs. But actually nailing it, the tone, the repetitive accuracy and deep, locked down groove, the little nuances and affectations he collected over the years, the awkwardness of the rhythms in a lot of his riffs and choruses, the way he could generate grit and snarl that was so damn effective. That's another story altogether. He was the soul of the band for sure. ✌🙏

@@SeagoGuitarist couldn't agree more. Angus has said several times if his guitar went out on stage nobody would notice...but if Malcolm's went down the show would basically fall apart lol. Any musicians here? I love AC/DC (!) and while this riff has a great, great tone and is overall essential to the song (agree, it’s everything that rock’n’roll should be about), it’s also a quite easy Chuck Berry style standard riff. No need to outdo yourselves with the praises. And yes, it’s even not too hard to “get it right”, bla bla bla.. Sorry but this just had to be said. Everybody seems to have the same submissive opinion here so I’m awaiting your shitstorm.
