Things have moved on from my youth. The lifter left a row down the field that were lifted by a beet hook. you held the beet, chopped off the tops, then tossed the beet into small heaps. these heaps were forked onto a trailer and tipped into a heap at the farm. Those heaps were then forked up into an 8 ton lorry. probably why i walk around stooped, two metal knees and one metal hip so far.....
