I once got a tumbler and filled it full with the colour then rushed indoors to hold it against a white wall in bright light, but nothing to see :D the dinoflagellates are microscopic! It is a beautiful sight. I feel bad for the ones that get washed high up on the sand though, they prefer the water.

The Maldives are never crowded, I have visited different islands since 2002 every year. I'm yet to find a crowded one, but I go out of season. It's still extremely hot and fine weather. I have seen this sight many times, and each time it is normal and only my friend and I witnessed it every time we walk to and from the restaurant (it gets dark by 6 pm this time of year)

I swam with dolphins like this on a moonless night in Corfu.

They are not bacteria, they are dinoflagellates, and they are present in the water 24/7. You can swim safely with them, but you must shower your ears after. If they dry in your ears it may spark an infection, but to be honest I know friends who never washed them out and were fine.

I was on the Washington coast when it was 16 degrees right where the water freezes as the ice cracked as I walked by a luminescence lit up the ice it was the coolest thing ever! I love our world it's so cool I hope the rest of us humans don't ruin it

Teeny tiny microorganisms that glow at night. During the day you can see the brown water,that's them,millions of em'. They chase fish away so fishermen don't like em'. They cycle through the seasons. We see em' alot at Ensenadas beach. Beautiful to watch them light up as the waves break. I'm from S.Cali

@@poorvishavasanth6915 it's a very seasonal thing. We had great bioluminescence in Velaa Private Island last month. It was spectacular! But nobody can predict when it will occur again
