Those stirrups are SUPER safe. They dont compare to anything else on the market. If you fall off, theres nothing trapping your foot since the outer side of it is fully open, and the magnet will just drop once that force of the fall hits. So I definitely think they're worth it from that argument!
@jhorvers
@jhorvers 3 жыл бұрын
I get that point.. But what if you have to jump of in case of an "emergency".. You can't get your feet out straight away because of the magnet and having to reach down twice to hold the "stirrup strap" before being able to pull your feet out can make the difference between getting of clean or getting injured.. How does that work in a situation like that?
@sirenserenades
@sirenserenades 3 жыл бұрын
@@jhorvers If you were to throw yourself out of the saddle the stirrups would come off one way or another, even if it meant the leathers following above the saddle... I understand your concern but I have personally not heard about any situations like that where the rider used Ophena stirrups and got problems because of them. I guess you'll have to ask in a forum specific for ophena users to find an answer to your concerns.

My hips are cocked to an angle from years of carrying server trays. I have the worst time keeping my right stirrup because of it, but I also don't want to make the problem worse by shortening the leather more than the left foot. I'm super tempted to try these out. I do mounted archery so being able to keep my foot in the stirrup is super important since your hands are so busy.

He is just a pleasure horse walk, gait and just hang out together. He is a sweetheart on the ground tho, seeks me out, loves grooming, scratches, and baths, he doesn't trot and has the smoothest running walk, so he has his charms.

Not sure I'd go there. The horse appears to respond to your movement but if weight in the stirrup is important like for me, shifting or fiddling to find comfort could cause a reaction in my case I'd have a difficult time correcting. I bought them two years ago because my mare loves to make a 180 degree turn and go for a run whenever she fancies 😅 i LOVE them and would recommend to everyone! Helped me a lot and I didnt fall off anymore since I bought them. It's not that cheap but the quality is very good and I love them, so to me, it's worth the price! You can try them for 60 days and if you dont like them, you can return them for free :) If you turn your ankle to the outside, like make a 90 degree corner leg-foot, the stirrup will get loose, this is the easiest way to loose the stirrup. Only less positive thing i found out is that everything attaches to the magnet insole when you walk around in the stable. Nails and stuff 😅 but that's my only "complain" 😁

They are ridiculously expensive and I’m not convinced the market would be there for us mere mortals. I watched Matt’s ankles and it definitely looked like his ankle was bent to the outside, which could cause issues for a lot of riders (I have weak ankles so I can appreciate this). I think the benefits would be incredible for para riders and can see them being a really great product for them.

Coming back from a ankle injury these stirrups helped when jumping till I got more flexibility in my ankle. To take your foot out its like riding a bike with your feet locked in to the peddles you rotate your heel outward like twisting your foot in the stirrups then you have less magnetic connection . I only use them now when jumping bigger jumps . The ankle is almost a 100% and I am not sure I will continue using them . I like to be able to slightly adjust my foot . But in the end they certainly did get me back on track jumping probably faster than without them . Take care

I have been a rider for most of my life, a professional for 25 plus years. I ride with old style fillis irons. I have tried the wide irons, magnetic, angled and so on. My balance is not grounded as is with old style irons. Perhaps it is because that is what I am used to. I really don't like these short cuts to proper position. You must learn how to place and keep the iron on your feet. It's part of equitation which is not just for "show". Equitation keeps you grounded on your horse!

They can actually help you, you feel the weight of them a bit when you lift up like that and makes you more aware about doing that, I used to lift my left leg on days where my lower back hurt but I've stopped doing that now and I'm more stable in regular stirrups too. You can loose them just as easily as normal ones at least if you have the regular strenght magnet and normal sole thickness in your shoes. If you have thicker soles like in a lot of winter boots you need to have stable feet and with the regular strenght insole they will fall of just by lifting the foot a little bit. They now have an option with extra strong magnet insoles wich they recommend for para riders and thick soles I have not tried them so can't say how much stronger they are. When loosing them they are much easy to get on again, they are designed to stay out and not turn and lay against the horses belly.

I would think a less well trained rider would benefit from these magnetic stirrups. Someone of your level of riding expertise is much more sensitive to the placement of your foot in the stirrup. Love your honest critique of products. These stirrups seem very well made and durable. 💘 🐎 🐕 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

It seems very scary to drive with this the feeling that your brace stays attached to your foot. I myself do not have a very stable foot, but I ride with safety bars but then the normal one with the rubber band. So this seems very strange to me I think you also get a different position of your foot on your bracket by the magnet. I think it would be cool to try someday but not to drive along

I Want those stirrups! I am a Barrel Racer and that is a huge balancing advantage act! It would teach me to use more leg and less mouth which is really important with gaming and Western riding. You have no choice but to learn how to stop readjusting in those puppies!

I have them and really like them, I got them when they were at a pre-sale price. I'm a bit scared of getting stuck my first fall of a pony I had gotten myself stuck in the stirrup (it was the regular safety stirrup with a rubber band) I ofc didn't have the best legs as a beginner and the pony got spooked during canter (some idiot slaming the door open and shouting) thankfully the pony stood still right after otherwise I would have been dragged. The stirrups felt a bit strange in the beginning, agree that they feel a bit restrictive, you can't shift your foot to an other position but got used to it pretty fast. I see that there are some misconceptions in the comments so hope to clear some up. 1 the normal magnet (they now have an extra strong option that I have not tested) is not strong enough to fix someone having trouble with loosing the stirrups, with regular sole thickness you just have to shake your feet a little bit to release them or if you have thin soles angle your foot a bit and lift the heal (ophena have a video showing that move) so the stirrups will come of if you tend to lift your feet during canter. However I have back problems and when it's really bad I used to loose the stirrups occasionally, but with ophena stirrups I got more aware of my feet and since I felt the weight a bit more when I started lifting the foot I could quickly push down in that stirrup and I got rid of that bad habit, and I have tried normal stirrups on some riding school lessons and I don't drop or slide around in them at all anymore. 2 Of course you can do a safety dismount, if you have time you can release them as normal or just swing your leg ower and dont care about the stirrups being attached they will get off, if you have really short leathers just stand a bit in the stirrups then get off, thankfully have not had a reason to try it myself yet. The father of my instructor just happened to do this the first time he tried them, he normally just get off and loose the stirrups in one go and well he did not think about the stirrups following him and that horse happens to be really sensitive so the horse spooked but none of them got harmed in the end. 3 I can't jump anymore thanks to my back but a lot of people use them for jumping, normally the ones that don't like them for jumping prefers something like sprengers flexible stirrups because those dampen the impacts better. 4 not a misconception but with the stronger magnet and not too thick shoes in the shoes they are indeed helpful to para riders. That got really long... hope it helped to answer some questions

A double bridle is meant for highly refined communication, not as a stronger bit. It helps Matt have even more subtle communication with a very sensitive horse.. In upper level riding it is necessary to have ways to communicate extremely subtle signals to Emporio that help him keep refining his balance, using his back correctly, and ask for tiny refinements. As with any tool, it is how it is used. But its intention is to refine the communication between horse and rider to its most exquisite sensitivity, making the bridle a way to offer only the subtlest input to the horse. Depending on the horse, where he is at in his training and the riders sensitivity, feel and knowledge, the double bridle can be a far more refined tool than a snaffle for this level of riding and a huge support to the horse. I think this is the track Matt and Emporio are on.

Thanks for doing the stirrup review. It’s an interesting product but what is the overall benefit to the Rider vs normal stirrups? Honestly, I don’t feel motivated to spend 300 euros + on these magnetic stirrups when my standard stirrups work perfectly well. You asked for other products to review. Since I have lots of dressage boots, spurs and dressage whips, it would be nice to see a review on one or more of that gear. Thank you! 😊

@@milesmorgan7938 I think a quick dismount by rapidly kicking your opposite foot free and then your near foot free, before swinging your leg over, is what was meant. And I think Matt does suggest in the video that he is skeptical of the ease of being able to do that. I was wondering the same thing.
