I just try to remember my nurse's name and call them by their name. But if I'm in the ER and it's the first time you're my nurse I might forget because I usually suck at remembering names. The little discreet pointing at the name badge helps because I'm more likely to remember if I read it versus just hear it.

Late, but especially with the frequency you portray the female nurses as justifiably irritated by the male doctors and consistency you portray them as just as competant and intelligent (though differently specialized), even if there weren't exceptions to the norm, it would be a real stretch to read your shorts as sexist. As with the Bechdel test, ways of looking at sexist trends in a broad collection of media don't always work when applied more narrowly. Plenty of feminist movies fail the Bechtel test, and plenty of sexist ones fail because it was never meant to be a critique of a particular film or series. Don't let the people who misunderstand this kind of thing get to you. You're doing good! 👍

Early in my nursing career male nurses were just increasing....and at the university hospital I worked at, several young provincial cops had switched from policing to nursing. Back then males tended to do ER, OR, or ICU. Loved having 2 huge muscular former cops to work with on those weekend night shifts in the ER, much less trouble from the "drunks". Fun old days.

I know this post is about representation. I love the skewed wigs and had honestly never thought about it in these awesome videos. But, here is my plug for male nurses: I am so glad for the male nurse that I encountered years ago in labor and delivery during my rapid 29 week delivery. My husband made the birth by 15 minutes. I needed that nurse that day. I needed his strength in demeanor and his support. The young resident that I encountered was not convinced that delivery was going to happen. I knew it was happening as it was not my first rodeo. I am sure he had encountered women who were not glad to see him. But, I was super glad that day. My son in law in a nursing student and I have been his cheerleader. What a great use of talent! I am so appreciative of the many who provide health care!!!

Nah, he's way too compliant and passive a patient 😝 No shade against nurses, they're heroes and their entire job involves having to constantly stand up for what they know is right against hostile systems, makes sense they'd be in that mode by default! But I've observed that lots of healthcare pros especially nurses can be pretty difficult patients (or especially clients when their child or pet is the patient) a disproportionate amount of the time lol. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, most nurses I know are self-aware of this trait and laugh at it with me 🤷‍♂️

I think the most important highlight of all your videos featuring nurses is the validation of their struggles and the frustration they experience with doctors. That insight/empathy is valuable, and way more timely and impactful (I think) than going out of your way to mix genders all around would be. Gender stereotypes in healthcare aren't dead yet but society is definitely in a convalescent stage on those, whereas doctors being jerks to nurses because of poor system mechanics and poor communication is a way more acute issue right now.

As a male nurse, I've gotten the "don't you want to be a doctor" a lot over the years. My answer? "Eh, I can get all the benefits of being a doctor by just going to the bar on singles night, wear a stethoscope, and call myself one"

@@doctorcaptainalex Depends. I know some nurses who work 90 odd hours a week. 10 percent of the population work over 80hrs per week.

@@kayade5305 definitely true. I also know a lot of nurses who rake in the overtime. I'm not one of them tho. Why? Cause that 3 days a week thing is pretty sweet

For the record, it might really confuse the viewers. Plus, those wigs are fun! 😂 As long as we all share the same ✨goal✨: keep Jones out of the hospital. Rooting for the speedy recovery lol

Am an EMT& was working with another female who is maybe 4’ taller (I’m only 5 ft) and probably 30lbs lighter. Had a 450 lbs pt last night. Went on and on about why would they hire woman and especially put us together. I was so annoyed. I calmly remarked “we can do more than you think”. All while thinking we weren’t the problem. We had help getting her in the truck. Called for lift assist to get her out. We wound up taking her out while the FD stood there and watched. Woman made comments about how she didn’t expect that. Dont question our abilities. I may be the size of a 12 yr old but I know what I’m doing and am good at my job. Sometimes I hate working in such a sexist career. It’s not the people in the career that are usually sexist. It’s the pt. Like, most men would need lift assist to get you in the truck. Being a woman isn’t the problem.

1) I’m a male nurse; 2) I definitely noticed the RN=female thing in his videos; 3) It’s never bothered me once. The videos are hilarious, and if you work in healthcare for any amount of time, you’ve probably had someone be rude/mean/violent/offensive/*insert worst adjective at some point. If this trend in DS’s videos bothers you, your life might be too easy (see: Afghanistan). I’ve worked exclusively in trauma/surgical ICUs in academic hospitals, and I’ve had scores of patients and family members be total a**holes to my face, even as I’m actively keeping them or their family member alive. And you know what? Sometimes I don’t say the nicest thing back, but I do my job and I do it well. But I don’t get offended and I don’t let little things bother me because I know who I am and what I’m worth.

Man... I couldn't even handle the rejection of showbiz, so add the insults endured by nurses (from patients and families of patients who are being kept alive and well by y'all) to my ever-expanding list of "Reasons I Could Never Be A Nurse." I am stationed in the psych wing of an emergency department at a hospital with a major trauma center.... I am not medical but "know just enough to be dangerous" as I like to say...🤪... also I know enough to appreciate what nurses do so I'm often saying to my wonderful nsg colleagues, e.g. "Reason number 4,710 why I could never be a nurse." [Insert any number of examples here.] So thank you ALL nurses and docs and techs and the rest... for your service, especially in these times. 🙏

Ok, I’m definitely getting the vibe that you’ve gotten recent criticism about the whole male nurse thing (probably mostly by women ironically. Lol!) To that, I will just silently shake my head, and offer you a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. Because I have no words for people sometimes. 🤦‍♀️ But look, won’t someone please think of that impressive wig collection! I would be crushed if we didn’t get to see those wigs anymore. 🥺
