But it is a pretty fair look at what the 10th Army had in '40. The planes and tanks are mostly wrong, but the infantry and artillery are pretty spot on. Maybe the infantry should have more helmets and less US weaponry (like the tripod mounted M1919s). The 10th Army was pretty solid for 1930, but it was hopelessly outdated by 1940.

Yes, but I've already explained that the uploaded clips are from the movie "Il Leone del Deserto". If you study the often reproduced WW2 pictures of the Egyptian invasion of Egypt, you'll quickly discover that Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi wanted those same scenes recreated in the movie he budgeted, showing modern Italian armour and weapons advancing almost in parade formation across the Libyan Desert to take on the Senussi.

@@williwass6837 in Russia there was something like 210.000 soldiers belonging of the ARMIR. Part of them was made by 4 Alpini Divisions. Those divisions was legendary. 800 km marching in the snow without boots. Surrounded by soviet tanks, without equipment and sufficient ammunition, and still they managed to force back the soviet tanks that they have blasted. A German general aggregate to the Tridentina division once said: "I don't need tanks, the Alpini are my tanks".

Leadership, yes, tech/weapons/equipment, yes, soldiers, no. When all your equipment is 10 years out of date and not enough of it, flesh can only do so much. Also, considering, again, technical disadvantages the navy did a pretty good job, got a lot of supplies through for the Germans despite being at a disadvantage. I have no doubt that IF the Italians had the same tech level and leadership as the germans in the numbers needed they probably would have kicked the british out of Africa and possibly the middle east. After all I think, at least at the beginning they outnumbered the british 3-1.They also would have slowed the allies down a lot more in 1942-43.

The last 2 battle _Battle of the Piave and the victory at Vittorio Veneto were won primarily by the 57 Italian divisions. Compare that to the Allied troops that were sent to help the French-ocer 5,500,000 from 1914-1918.

What you see if the Fascist Italians attacking Libyan Arabs and Berbers BEFORE World War Two. No British were involved in this battle as it took place entirely in Libya.

This BADLY chopped up footage from a movie called "Lion Of The Desert" which was released in 1981. About a rebellion in Libya in which the Italians had gotten badly mauled by peasants.

italians won their own battles against the british army, the only way they managed to advance and win was thanks to their supplies, and all the help of their allies and colonies,italy was mostly alone and even the germans started to retreat before the italian royal army in africa, the paratroopers of the folgore managed to destroy a lot of heavy tanks with only captured mines and molotovs,without ammo,food, or reinforcments. but it's useless to explain I kinda get you hate italians for some reasons-

@@andreafiori3244 You are both right and wrong sir. The British army in 1939 was far too small to acheive anything other than police a subdued empire. The British have only ever had large land forces when they have allied with others or had a full mobilization such as in the two world wars. Check history - you will see I am correct. I doubt our policiticans/leaders would have trusted a large army enough to want to fund one. The British army overwhelmed by the speed and the aggression of the Germans leading to Dunkirk was a very professional, mechanized and pretty well equipped force - but far too small to do anything other than be of assistance to the French never to be able to dominate the battlefield. The air support necessary for that small army to succeed was not available and the Naval strength was of no real use on a battlefield. Just as there were circumstances which led to the long retreat of the Italian army in the desert so there were circumstances which led to the British/French defeat. The only difference being is that in many cases the British equipment was as good and even better than the Germans had. The French for sure had the better armour. The Germans completely outsmarted the French (remember it was the French in command of this not the British - though I doubt the British would have foreseen the German army coming through the Ardennes either) The French had no moder commnunication within their forces or with the British they commanded. Add to that fiasco the decision of the Belgians to surrender en masse with no warning given to their allies they were going to do so - this as you can guess caused a huge rethink for the French and British who were by now in their forward positions with no Belgian army on their flank to support them - it was only going to end in disaster from that moment. Like the Italian army when the British army fought the Germans they acheived their local aim which was, by now to delay in order to get an orderly retreat toward the ports. The French did the best they could do enable this. Hong Kong was just overwhelmed and could not really be defended though the Candaians there did their best. The whole Malaya/Singapore disaster was a fiasco which started in the early 1930's through British economic/military stupidity. It was a disaster waiting to happen. Very poor leadership once the Japanese had landed and gave the British a lesson in modern warfare and air support of ground forces. It could have been saved but British/Indian/Australian forces were not well led and became demoralized as a result of the sheer stupidity of their leaders - like I said a disaster waiting to happen. I will take issue with the statement, "Without USA and USSR they would never have been victors". From the late 1800's it was clear that factories and science were going to decide who won wars not just how good your soldiers may or may not be. The Axis powers never out produced British/Commonwealth/Empire factories - it was just not possible for them to compete with British industries. The sheer manpower of the British Empire would, allied to the industrial might of Britain have slowly ground down the Axis powers. Italy was on her knees industrially even before joining the war. British industrial might, naval power and the possibility of inexhaustible numbers of men available (factor this - India provided about two million men alone - they were all volunteers, conscription was not required (and probably would not have been advisable either but that is another debate) Britain had only just started to put African troops into India to fight the Japanese. Britain did not in any form finish the war as victors. We were bankrupt, largely as a consequence of having to sell our American commercial interests to the Americans at rock bottom prices and to spend our every hour then paying the US for war supplies. How different that would have been if the USA had not entered the war and we had not been beguiled into buying US products when our own were perfectly sufficient for the job in hand. The US were almost as intent on bankrupting the British Empire and taking our bases around the globe as they were in defeating the Axis powers. They were not our friends for sure. They were very clever and defeated the British Empire as surely as they helped defeat the Axis powers. Britain would have been better remaining alone and taking a lot longer to beat the Axis than taking the short cut the US help and factories offered. When I say Britain I also include the commonwealth and empire nations. Germany can be grateful this did not happen as I doubt Britain would have allowed so much of Germany to remain in German hands - I'm guessing we would have divided much of the west of Germany amongst the other nations of Europe. I'm also guessing the most proitable slice of northern Italy would have gone to the French and maybe even Sicily kept as a British base. Conjecture on this of course. What was absolutely inevitable though was the Britsh empire would have won without the US and the USSR involvement. Germany was the key to the Axis power and Germany was never in a position to have anything more than momentary success. The internal security problems of having to try to keep France and the smaller European nations under control would have caused Germany to regret ever setting foot outside of Germany. I also have to wonder at what point would the Germans have got rid of Adolf Hitler themselves and perhaps wanted to come to the table to talk about a more equitable solution for themselves than the eventual defeat to the unforgiving British (and by that time rejuvenated French and maybe even Italian forces which may have been put against them) might have brought to their borders.

There’s a great book, titled Iron Hulls Iron hearts. It’s a good account of Italian Armor and motorized infantry. Things weren’t so one sided. It’s gives nuance to the whole campaign in North Africa from the Italian perspective…written by a Brit I believe. Italian forces made a good account of themselves when properly equipped and led. The front line motorized divisions and armor fought as well as any after the initial setbacks. The Brits have always been excellent soldiers. There’s no need to get into a pissing match over who was better or not. If you’re interested in a good unbiased account in book from the Italian perspective I suggest picking up Iron Hearts Iron Hulls.

This was a brilliant movie with everything so well produced, the tanks and vehicles are periodically correct and accurate to what the Italians would have used, it to mention the uniforms and weapons. Yet you decide to criticize a minor detail that even you are wrong about. The Italians did use m1919 gmpg along with BARs and other US equipment
