Looking past the party scenes - I really loved this book! Mostly because it was a quick, easy read. I enjoyed past story versus the present like you did and looking back, you are right about the party just not fitting into the book. I found myself skimming those parts because I just was interested in the Riva family.

Don Adler (Evelyn's first husband) also makes a cameo in this book. Nice that the books are in the same universe. I found the characters a bit lacking in depth. At some point June references them as something like "dependable, talented, kind, and bold" and there doesn't seem to be more to the characters than that, which is disappointing given how much time you spend with them. I think TRJ has really cool settings and book concepts, but at least in this book, her characters were pretty flat, which cut down the potential of the book. I think Evelyn Hughes was interesting because she was a fully formed character... but even in that book the other character, Monique, was underdeveloped. Hopefully it's something Taylor can improve on in future books.

Ok your bookshelves are so dope. Also, I definitely think books that are hyped up A LOT can usually be disappointing.

I also didn’t like Hud and what he did to Jay… I’m a person that tends to hold a grudge😭 Jay deserved to know the whole truth and The way that Hud used “fate” as a reason to justify his actions. How he would stay with her knowing how painful it would be for his brother. It really ruined his character for me.😭

super boring book. Felt very anti climatic and almost too fast?
