One thing i am grateful for, i grew up with their songs. Beautiful youth. Beautiful memories. Nothing closer to my heart than 90s-early 2000s Japanese indie music, and Malice Mizer was one of the most iconic scenes in that era

how did you discover/first hear them in 1999? :Oc i'm curious how someone would've found them back then internationally. unless you were in japan at the time
@jiveturkey33527 күн бұрын
@Fang_Tooth I downloaded a lot of music and found live performance of malice mizer. The whole concert for album merveilles I had downloaded and watched over and over. Same with xjapan and many other bands. Been a fan for 20 plus years. I still look and discover lots of amazing Japanese music. Mainly rock and metal though.
English lyrics: The sound of our footsteps rang On the street lined with whithering, dead trees Always made me notice our increasing pace Small, fallen leaves pass by my shoulder and return to the sky Somehow this fiercely blowing wind is dear to me now You were softly smiling The familiar figure leaning on the window Obscured by the sunlight disappears Overflowing with feelings I muttered, “At least until I wake from this dream…” Even more I want to sleep holding you Even though sweet memories have changed I want to sleep holding you in my arms Like the time when we met Leaning on the window by the rustling trees I softly mutter those same words once more… Even if I can see the figure from that time At the most, it’s only in a dream… Even more I want to sleep holding you Even though sweet memories have changed I want to sleep holding you in my arms Just like that time, that day The two of us met… I want to sleep holding you I want to sleep holding you in my arms

How melancholic yet hopeful. I cannot get enough of this song no matter how many times I listen to it. It is quite amazing that a song made almost 30 years ago in a language I largely do not understand can elicit such strong emotions of longing to be with someone you truly love yet have lost. It really speaks to the transcendental nature of music as an art medium, as no matter the temporal, cultural, or spatial distance you are from a piece's origin, one can connect with it uninhibited.
