Many thanks for all the enthusiasm, complements and memories. I remember most all the performances referred to by those of you who've contributed to this link. I kept a running log of our shows, the good and the not so good. I'm happy that most recall the better side of the band. I have more material and will get to comping together something else...... someday.

+vistalite Just noticed Mark from the band posted this. He spoke of vice versa, I saw that on tv not too long ago. Bought license to kill the day it hit my local record store. I hadn't heard of Malice at the time but new releases came out on Tuesdays and I'd usually stop there to see what arrived. the guy working the store saw me and said "you have to listen to this!". as soon as the music started I was putting my money on the counter and buying the album. Got it home and recorded it on both sides of a cassette so once it got done just flip the tape and listen to it again. Did the same thing with sabbaths "headless cross" actueally did it with quite a few albums. I couldn't stand the sound of pre-recorded cassettes.I remember at a party someone had just bought a newly released cassette from somebody and I had the same thing that I recorded from the album. he was going on about how pre-recorded sounds just as good, so I got my buddy running the stereo to play each one and the party goers chose what they thought sounded better. Out of a 100 people or so, no one chose the pre-recorded. Back to Malice, I really thought they would be the next big group, but after license to kill it seemed as though they disappeared. I still rock it out every now and then. Actually one of just a few albums where every song rocks out. Most of the time there would be at least one or 2 tunes that kind of sucked, but not on license to kill.

Thanks for the appreciation and props. Addressing your question; Mick, Cliff and I all work in TV & film. Mick as a prop maker, does mostly feature films. I'm not exactly sure about Cliff's present project. He's done features, TV and commercials and last I heard, he was doing work as a foreman/ construction coordinator. I work in commercials as a production designer. James resides in Virginia and works in an IT dept. of a company I can't remember (as of a couple years ago). Jay lives in Oregon.

America's answer to Judas Priest and I mean that in a good way, Mark. I'm sure you get tired of being compared to them but there are some undeniable similarities on some songs. My wife just bought this cd for me on Father's Day. I crank it every morning driving to work. Get's me pumped. Better than coffee. I wish I could have seen you guys back in the day. Thanks for posting, Mark. You guys rocked!

Hey Michael, Thanks for your review, compliments and story. Rightfully, I should never tire of comparisons to the mighty Priest. Mick & I actually jammed with Glen Tipton one night, long before Malice was formed. A story to be told another time. Understandably, Mick and Jay aspired to and were heavily influenced by Priest, where I was more moved by great rhythm sections such as Sabbath, Purple & Rush. Some of the original Malice song ideas presented by Mick or Jay, totally required a driving, straight ahead bass part to best serve the song. Chain Gang, Godz & Hellrider to name a few. My contributions were more riff oriented, in the flavor of the bands that moved me….Rockin’ w U, Stellar Masters, Raven, Christine, Empire, Crazy in the night etc. A tip of the cap to your wife (she must have great taste ;-) for gifting you the cd for dad’s day…. nice! I’m happy to hear it still moves you, rock on my brother!!!

@@MaliceMB A year late, but thanks for replying Mark! We hope you and your family are well. I, of course, was listening to the License to Kill cd on my way to work like usual and realized that Breathin' Down Your Neck is now my favorite this week. It occurred to me, that, the riff and the driving rhythm section needs a subwoofer. My next project around the house is to install a suitable sound system in my car....something that will do the song some justice. The oil change can wait. 😄 It's by a stroke of luck that a homemade cassette with a mishmosh of songs came into my possession around '89-'90 with the song License to Kill on it. At that time I didn't know who you guys were. So last year I started remembering some of the lyrics and then the song, and with a little browsing on utube came across your video. This 55 year old and some technology made it happen. We could use some more footage if you can find the time. Rock on, Mark!

I found the License to Kill album buried between gospel albums about to be thrown out. I'd never heard of Malice, and thought "Oh shit, look at that 80s hair, this is gonna be horrible, like B movie horrible." So I had to rescue it. I just finished listening and was surprised, impressed, and confused that I'd never heard of them. I mean, those vocals could rival Scorpions', and the guitar solos are insanely awesome. Wtf.

One of my favorite bands of the 80's. I grew up in suburban San Diego and was one of those "computer nerds" who had a Computer and a Modem and was in the BBS (Bulletin Board System) circuit. Needless to say, my "handle" or "alias" was Sinister Double, which of course was from the very same Malice song. I used the alias for a long time into the 90's where i was in the Military and got moved to Virginia where i met my first wife Beth (alias: Mystique). My license plate back then was SIN&MYS, again, a reference to Sinister Double. Needless to say, you guys had a big influence on my teen and early adult years. I listened to License to Kill a few weeks ago and it still kicks my ass.
@MaliceMB4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story Bill, I really liked it and Mick would have too. Sinister Double was a song that came together pretty quickly and felt like it almost wrote itself. Mick came up with the initial riff idea, but at a much slower tempo. After working through a few possible transitions, we sped up the movement to give it the “gallop” feel it became. Once the tempo was established, the bridges and chorus ideas fell into place. In Malice, we had working titles for ideas or songs under construction, that were usually humorous words or phrases. We used these names as place marks until the lyrics were composed, and then the song would be appropriately titled. Example: Stellar Masters (Malice- In The Beginning) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmbiH9umKx2nNU had the working title of “Vegetable Beef”, based on a Campbells soup concoction. The title Sinister Double came about when Mick & I saw Jay Leno doing a stand up comedy performance at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA in the mid 80’s. He did a bit where he referenced an “evil twin or sinister double if you will”. We thought that it was a hilarious title and logged it in for future use. When the song was in development, I thought it sounded ominous and referenced it as Sinister Double. James embraced the concept and wrote the lyrics, with the intent of keeping the title. I thought he did a great job at making the working title relevant. That's the short version.....

Mark Behn, I cant believe my luck in stumbling my way here literally by accident. First off R.I.P Mick, next, Malice has been one of the bands that have dominated and shaped my way of thinking musically along with a handful of others. Being a south bay so cal local I got the chance to experience Malice in Los Angeles and in a fairly small venue that for the life of me i cant remember the name of at the moment.( I'm sure it will come to me). I believe it was with Armored Saint and someone else. Me and a few friends got the tickets like last minute at the show in the parking lot and we all got up to the stage since it was standing room only we pushed our way til we were standing three feet from where James was standing the most , we felt. My friend Eddie had his arms on the stage most of the show and I was right behind him or to his left or right side. We love the music you guys play and especially dug the voice James rocked and we all thought we could imitate him pretty good and especially my friend Eddie. So Eddie was too drunk and stupid and holding on to the monitor they have at the edge of the stage so you can hear yourself playing and singing every word back at James and almost taunting him, like til James decided to come to the very edge of the stage and grab Eddie by his shoulders and pick up Eddie and throw him off the edge of the stage and back into me where I caught the little fucking drunktard after which both of our replies were "Whoa"!! Fuck!! Eyes wide in disbelief we both kept rocking and banging our heads and James never missed a beat or word of HellRider. Ya, I cant remember the name of the venue but i can never forget the name of the song James reached out to us in, haha! Well after another couple songs I guess someone called the venue security down and they came and told Eddie to stay off the stage , keeps his arms off it anyways and Eddie just couldnt seem to do that so they pulled him out to the side and towards the back and he was back up front in a few minutes. One of the best shows any rock band ever played . You guys were tight and loud. One of the best nights ever for me and my friends period. I just wanted to thank you for putting together some seriously great music. Oh, Anything else you can let us hear/ see will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dude, my band totally used to rock "Chain Gang Woman" back in the day! This was a great, great metal record, tragically underrated, IMO! Thanks for posting this vid, it brings back a lot of memories! lol
