I believe the surgeon residents should have a much higher salary, considering the harder lifestyle and the longer hours. I can't comprehend how a radiologist resident in my country earns more than Orthopedic Surgeons, because they are supposedly exposed to radiations, yet I've never seen an radiologist doctor anywhere close to an X-ray machine, they sit behind a thick bunker wall, but the orthopedic surgeons use the C-arm intraoperative and expose themselves every single day.

its not about the exposure to radiation. that is because they are paid for every plates they read or interpret. CT-SCANS, X-RAY, MRI, ULTRASOUND. they are most commonly used in hospitals and even in diagnostics clinic. they can be paid reading the results even if they are not in the hospital premises.

That has nothing to do with radiation, it's only about how much they read and deduce the different pathologies in the body and actually it's probably the most well paid "medical" specialty compared to surgical specialties along with non interventional cardiology

hello sir, kindly help as being a non US- IMG, even if I like surgery and My inclination is totally towards surgery after analysing all the parameters you told, then also I am afraid to not risk my career for surgery as its rare that IMG's make it to surgery residency and only extraordinary and exceptional students like you with many research experiences, publications and great scores make it there. KINDLY tell how an average student like myself think of a speciality like Neurosurgery as my career in the US.

I think taking one's application into consideration is another important factor in choosing a speciality
