It's ok to walk, not fun to shop, because if you buy something, be prepared to haul it for a long long time. The food & amusement park can be fun though. Comedy clubs, restaurants, but, shopping for stuff, lol, not really. Unless you're parked right by where you want to shop.

It's because MOA remodeled for the worse. It's matured, but in many ways, in the wrong direction. You're right in that it's sterile - more like an airport than a shopping mall. From its opening in '92 until the '00s each wing of MOA had its own design and character. Much more carpet back then too, which really seemed to help with sound dampening. I feel like MOA's first big blow was losing Camp Snoopy. That place was distinctly Minnesotan as it really felt like an amusement park placed in the middle of a forest with cabins and even outdoor sound effects over hidden speakers. It was especially fun at night. Not to mention its strong connection to St. Paul native Charles Schulz. Today, Nickelodeon Universe has zero connection to Minnesota history, and is just as lifeless as the corridors of the mall itself, a complete 180° of the coziness that was Camp Snoopy. The second blow was the loss of one of its four original anchor stores - Bloomingdale's (and subsequently, Sears). Of course dozens and dozens of stores, restaurants, and attractions have come and gone in its 30+ year existence, but those were some of the original strongholds/mainstays that everyone associated with the mall. These are just my opinions, of course! I'm glad I was a kid when MOA first opened and I got to experience those "glory days." Starbase Omega, anyone?? I even worked there for a time in the mid-'00s drawing caricatures. I don't think we can ever return to those glory days, unfortunately. The brick and mortar retail landscape is forever changed, but also society as a whole. It's a shame. In my ideal world, MOA would still have the Hologram Land store. 😂

I have done this vacation twice. First, I went to this mall back in 2010 when I was 7 years old. Just 12 years later in 2022, I went back there to film one half of the elevators and do Nickelodeon Universe. I also did this with Aunt Karen and Kristi. This vacation would have a cliffhanger when my sister Courtney got the coronavirus. So next year, I will be returning to this mall to film the other half of the elevators and do other activities, such as Dutchman's Deck Adventure Course. This vacation is also set to feature my 11-year-old cousin Lilly. I will stay at one of the mall's hotels.

The issue with malls now VS. 20-30 years ago is that the mall itself seems to have no personality of its own. Malls which have been remodeled over the last decade or so are invariably blank white spaces; only the stores themselves have anything interesting. Meanwhile, older malls were designed as spaces unto themselves, with features and architecture that made them interesting to be in independent of the stores that occupied them. I much prefer that style of mall, and it's sad to see the Mall of America hasn't escaped the "enblandening" which has afflicted so many malls.

I rode the express bus from Mpls to MOA many times back in the 90.s The light rail also ends here from the airport. This place is crazy packed on weekends during the winter.Finding a parking spot can be hard. I would park at IKEA across the street and walk over. The food is expensive, a Krispy Cream donut now closed was a buck. A water park was planned right before the pandemic. Which would remove parking spots. Not a good idea in a minnesota winter, looking for your car outside with wet hair. Not much trouble, one crazy guy picked up a small boy and threw him over the third floor down to the first floor. He survived but needed a lot of care. Another bad apple brought a gun inside and shot it in a store. Guards walk dogs sniffing for bombs. Many stores have come and gone like Sears.

Did you know that there is no central heating system at the MOA? The building maintains 70 degrees F year-round using sun and body heat. Even in freezing winters.

Filmed at 10am on a Monday per the youtube vlogger rather than on a busy weekend

Yes. Right after opening on a Monday morning. I promise to go back when crowded, but there is a delay because I am fearful of the crowds. Getting stuck in restaurant lane gives me anxiety. Ugh. I know to go, but never up for it. My mind keeps thinking of times when not busy. None of you will see much but people, so doing it to show the world the MOA gets busy.

I am going to film when full. I went on a Monday morning so viewers could see stores rather than people. I bought a mounting pole for my camera so viewers can see above the crowds. I dislike the mall when busy because your stroll slows or stops often.
