I think you getting ahead of yourself calling yourself a cycling influencer. with 8k on here and 10K in instagram. Ive been riding with PAS Mallorca for a couple of years now and found the community better than any of the others and would class them all as good friends. Your where being so negative and judgmental before you had even been there. Its a free ride put on by the shop and by your own words given one of the best pre ride descriptions and told more than once to download the ride route and then you moan that you go dropped and lost. So I wouldn't think that's a problem with them at all. If you're in Spain and your reason for some of them not being social its your fault because you don't speak Spanish. I think the Monday or Saturday rides would be better for you. I think you needed to change the video title to "Im not as fit as I think I am and I don't like getting dropped by PAS"

That’s exactly what I said, I understand I’m the outsider by not speaking Spanish. I made sure I said thank you to everyone exactly because they are putting on a ride and I know that takes time and dedication. I met a guy called Ruben at a ride last year and he genuinely was so nice and welcoming. We don’t remember the watts we remember the people and the experience. It’s all I’m saying. Like I said no one owes me anything, but the PAS crew passed me on a climb the next day, not one of them turned and said hi… all good crack on, I was fooked and could only manage a ‘hey’ as I do when I pass most riders. Community means different things to different people but if no one even asked how I found the ride hinges on me not speaking Spanish then perhaps that reflects the sense of community which is at the heart of this observation. I welcome discussions on all of this…

Perfectly fair play. Nothing wrong with anything that happened here. Guys are just strong, they know it and they ride that way. If they said it's a normal group ride or even a ride to get to know each other and than smash it like this and start dropping ppl, than it would be bad. This way, with the briefing, with giving all the information about how it will play out, it's perfectly fair play. 50km/h is a wicked speed and it's almost a sprint speed for vast majority of people. Strong guys.

Not sure how you come to the conclusion that they arent friendly or caring, Max. They didnt do anything wrong in my opinion. You just wasnt as quick as them. However, correct me i am wrong but didnt you drop the man with the mechanical in your group of three. Surely caring and friendly would have stopped with him?.
@thewattlife

I didn’t say they were unfriendly, I did say I like friendly groups, you might notice I try to always say hi to people, it features in my videos a lot. Not one person in that group said hi first and no one asked anything when we got back. Thats cool, nothing wrong with that, it’s their ride, their group, I’m a big boy I don’t need hand holding but as I said I like hard rides and I also like friendly. It’s besides the point, this ride was too fast for me for sure- lol the only interaction from one of the pass guys was shouting to close a gap after the rider in front of me jumped out the saddle to kick. Again, not my first chainy, cool I get it. They didn’t do anything wrong, they turned up, rode hard, laughed with their mates, went home. It’s all in the vid 🫶🏻 Best briefing I’ve ever been to and if you want a smash, do pop along and I can recommend the flat white

I work at the Pas Normal Studios Flagship store in Copenhagen where the community is full of like-minded beautiful people and not only white middle-aged dudes with SL8's, Dogmas, etc. We are very clear in the descriptions of the rides on Starva to ensure the safety of the riders joining. Our Women's Ride as an example is a beautiful nondrop ride space for international people to meet new friends. I also got dropped on the first rides I went on with PAS but it pushed me to get stronger, and I am so happy that I now work in a place that is queer-friendly, international, and doesn't look down upon people wearing different brands or ride cheap bikes. I suggest people swing by and talk to us before you come up with crazy statements about the people behind or the garments we make.

@eliasgozal9072 I love that for you. What you have done here is share your experience of PAS in the same way i have shared mine. No one said hi before the ride outside, no one spoke on the ride while leaving town and no one spoke to me after the ride. Im sure you have an amazing community, im sure the PAS guys in Mallorca are great people, my observation is that they were not particularly welcoming to me- please note that i didnt call them PAS ankors, this is something that has been mentioned ot me... A LOT. All i got was shouted at while in a pace line and then ignored back in the store. Please dont try to invalidate my experience. The listing for the ride also DID NOT make it clear it was a drop ride, i had to ride 30 mins to go to the store to find that out. Not that i care, i ride regularly with drop rides, however a 70km drop ride is a bit different. Please feel free to email me and id love to chat through this with PAS as a business- and especially share the number of messages i recieved with people sharing their experiences calling this particular community obnoxious.

Perhaps the first comment you have here, from someone that actually lives here (Mallorca) and knows this rides, and riders. The guy doing the presentation is known for going always "full send" and some of the other dudes race cat1 locally, so you can expect high pace, this reputation is not only on their group rides, there are plenty across the island that do this chain gangs that take no prisoners. So it's no unusual or specific to Pas. What i can confirm is the snobbish vibe , from the brand and the 'Cult' followers, And the moment you arrive with a camera and in other brand... You are someone to be dropped, faaast hahaha😅 Plenty of other group rides in the island, go and check Rapha club house and in the same square ask also in th TanLine shop for their rides, also fast , but friendly. In the end if you want to ride with shop clients and/or future buyer's, it's not a good tactic to drop them and ask them to come over later, so the pack leader can acknowledge how strong he is and how slow you are. Hahaha Ride on! And dont buy PAS (except if you really want the big P€Nis symbols) qjjaja Plenty of other brands that are better and better priced.

Just watched this and read some of the comments...some appear fair (positive and negative), and others seem pretty harsh and borderline insulting about you personally. Personally I like someone like yourself who is willing to get out there and cycle with different groups in different locations, (from London to Maidenhead to Majorca) and on different types of rides (from racing to chilled rides to chain gangs). For cyclists like me who ride solo for enjoyment, fitness and the odd sportive, and who wouldn't be confident enough to join a cycle club or group ride, this sort of content is fabulous. People like me get an insight into what sort of events, groups, and experiences are out there in the cycling world. You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs and you can't make a video without upsetting someone, (although there's seldom a need for viewers to make personal 'attacks'). Different people have different opinions and different viewers want different videos - personally, I really enjoy your content so thank you for that :)

So, their Tempo ride is their training session on Wednesdays, I bet they have the "club/community rides on the weekend or evening rides which are no drop. As you said it's exactly what it says on the tin. Posted on Strava with a map for uploading to your GPs. You went with a preconceived opinion and made it fit. I've lived, ridden and raced in the UK and Canada and when people say a club or store is not community minded or inclusive it's because they chose the wrong ride and they got dropped. Looks like it is performanced based, and that becomes exclusive. Is what it is. Always anxiety when riding with a new group. Biggest issue for me is trying new groups/clubs and finding a big difference in how things are done. Often found myself 'sweeping' in new groups even in no drop rides where newbs are supposedly wecome. Best sweeper I ever rode with was a Pro... he had nothing to prove in the bunch and really took care of the back of it. Wannabee syndrome can make fun not fun sometimes.

A couple of points: although they are a Danish company, Pas Normale is a French expression meaning Not Normal. You pronounced Normale correctly but not Pas. It’s pronounced pa, the s is silent. As for the ride, fast guys get to ride too. Just because you can’t keep up doesn’t make it a bad group ride. They tried to warn you and even their reputation was warning you but you weren’t listening because you thought you were fast. Majorca is the mecca of cycling. The level there is so much higher than where most people live. It’s Pas Normale. 😉

I think I understand what you're getting at. I think there are groups that are seen as 'elitist' all over the world.. I think a fix for this would be to have more than one ride captain and split into to groups to accommodate riders of different abilities. I'm all for fast drop rides as long as its known by all to be a drop ride. I love joining faster rides myself, knowing I'll get dropped and using it as motivation to get stronger and keep up for longer and longer until I manage to complete a ride with them. However, I do see your point. I do find a correlation between people wearing certain kit brands or riding certain bike brands and their friendliness or hostility. I myself ride a very entry level Domane Al 2 with 8 speed claris but am keeping up with and dropping people on muuuccchhh more expensive bikes and wearing all the latest kit. Maybe it's in my head but I do experience a bit of hostility from time to time. When I say hostility, people cutting across my front wheel, being bullied off wheels, etc. At the end of the day we're all cycling enthusiast and should encourage participation. You mentioned an invite only ride.. Perhaps this ride should be invite only and a secind ride organised along side for new comers or visitors etc

I think Pas Normal are cycling's first proper hypebeast brand and they'll probably go pop pretty soon, just how Supreme did a few years back. Their kit is well made but the ubiquity and cultishness around the brand is starting to wear a bit thin. Really can't see how they can become any more popular while retaining the aura they have right now. Will be interested to see how the market moves, if they adapt and go in another direction, or if an imaginative competitor swoops in and steals their crown.

Yeah man I’m sure and im not saying anyone was rude. If you know Ruben, he made a real lasting impression just by being friendly and chatting to people and not to mention he was a super strong rider. The effort he made had that lasting impression and he was there on behalf of the brand- he was also a mad strong rider. A PAS group passed me on a climb as I was on my way round the island, not one said hi, that’s cool, they ride hard, they are busy perhaps pushing but that is my experience. These boys ride hard but you can ride hard and be more Ruben’s. 🫶🏻

Every singe one of them in that store couldn't be and nicer, they have a passion for cycling and they want to take it seriously and keep there rides professional. You know what the ride consists of so either keep quite and get on with it or turn up to a Saturday ride which maybe more your kind of thing!

Of course man, they guys I spoke to before with a coffee were obviously great. Like I said, I don’t speak Spanish so it limits my interactions. No one when we got back asked how it was, which is fine, I’m a man but I’m sharing that experience. I came back, had a coffee, asked the dude behind the counter a few questions, said thank you to the same guy and the ride leader as you see, and made my merry way home. It’s easy to forget how intimidating it can be for people to step into these environments- I’m not talking about chatting on the ride, that’s cool, I said hi to a few guys who clearly didn’t speak English and that’s on me. My point is that brands create spaces with the intention of growing their business I’m just stepping into and sharing this and conversations I’ve had with people. I honestly don’t mind, I’ll turn up to any ride and get dropped but it’s the people and interactions that make a community space valuable not just the fact it’s a hosted ride. Perhaps I’m just on the outside, I’ve said in a few other comments, Ruben’s was the nicest guy ever and a super strong rider, but I remember him because he was nice more than because he could do 1,000,000 watts

Nice filming. I have to say though, it's a tempo, drop ride and you got dropped. Just hit the save button on Strava to download the route. The PAS guys are super friendly, and this is a great ride to build strength and learn to ride a pace line. However I would recommend riding a lot more rides like this before attempting the masters. Masters averaged 10kph more than the pas rides do (from somebody who rides with pas every week and masters week)
@thewattlife

@pauljordan6346 Yeah its a tempo ride but its too fast for me so it was more of a threshold effort which i couldnt hold for 50km. I know on Garmin you can hit save and it will push through to your head unit on other devices you have to use a laptop or a web browser. Im sure they are super friendly, they were having a laugh with each other for sure. The masters would be a huge ask for me but as an experience its something id like to find out more about

Isn't it like this in any group you find yourself in when there's a huge wattage mismatch? I've been on tempo/drop rides with great friends who smash huge watts and I don't think there's any lack of caring or friendliness on their part when I struggle to pull in the front or forfeit and do my own ride back home. When I accept an invitation to a ride, I don't expect others to do my ride, I try to do the ride I'm joining.

I don´t get this whole thing of joining a brand for a ride? Why? It´s advertizing. It´s marketing. I was multiple times in Mallorca, meeting great people in the hotel, at the coffee stop or simply at the streets, joining them for rides together with same interests, same speed, etc. Mallorca is full of great cyclists at every corner. Why the need to go to a brand for their marketing stuff? There is simply no need for this in my opinion.
@kallewirsch7915
@kallewirsch7915 Ай бұрын
And by the way: In my opinion there kit is over-hyped. I own one from exactly this store in Mallorca. The jersey alone was 140 EUR. It´s too short and it soaks up my sweat. It´s wet after a climb. Never expperienced this in other jerseys. The zippers are not as flat and tight was at other brands. They are okay, don´t get me wrong. They are tight and aero, but not top class like their price point.

Even though i do agree PNS riders on the whole can look a bit elitist I didn't really see any of this here, quite the contrary. You went in with such negative feelings and tried hard to validate your claims from the beginning of the video but then everyone you talked to seemed very nice, they did a great intro and told everyone what to expect beforehand. Then after you get dropped you go on about how you'd rather be with the other folks left behind (one of wich was actually also wearing PAS) and how PAS is unwelcoming, yet go back to their cafe to sit there with everyone and again everyone seems quite nice. It looks like you had some notion going in how this would be and tried to validate it but imo that didn't work and just leaves you looking like a bit of a fusspot.

@speedsociety9177 Lol my goal is never to make people or individuals look like they are not nice people. So, seeing as you seem like you might entertain a conversation. I always turn up early, not many people engaged in a hello or a hi when we were outside the store before setting off. )Yes i know i carry a camera and thats not everyones vibe). No one said hi on the slow easy 15-18 min ride out of town stopping at lights. Yes, i said hello to a few people. At the end of the ride after coming back in, no ride leader asked how it was. This is cool, im an adult i dont need people to look after me BUT dont then complain when this is the story i share. As other comments, i believe the language barrier plays a role but also please note- i was the one approaching people to say thank you. I could have got my bike and walked out and no onw would have cared. Which is fine. But my feeling was, "im not part of this group and im being treated in that way'. ie: if i was part of the group, they would have said hi, engaged at traffic lights and said bye. Chris Miller has missed the point but i appreciate the conversation.

@@thewattlife you are getting overly defensive which is not necessary imo. You made a point, from what I saw in the video I didn't look like it to me, that's all. What you described I have also experienced on most grouprides in my hometown of Berlin btw and also the Rapha guys were quite unwelcoming to everyone who wasn't a club member but a friend of mine living on Mallorca has the complete opposite experience with the Rapha grouprides on the island. So i would say it really depends on the group and location and we can't really paint everyone wearing a specific brand with the same brush anyway. When I go to a dropride which is communicated as that and essentially a training ride, I just hang on as long as I can and in the worst case go home alone, all good, I don't really go there to meet people anyway, there are other grouprides which are much more social (but also slow). Depends on what you want I guess. Don't get me wrong, I liked the video, also like your kit a lot and will come back for other videos too, just don't agree with your point based on whats visible in the video.

This video started because i know quite a few people who joke about this brand having a quite unfriendly nature. So when i told people i was going people would speak negatively about them. I also shared my 1st experience when they hosted a ride the day before the 312 event and left a load of people behind on the ride and waited at the top of a climb most of the way back. Thats no big deal, but its also no big deal to ride as a group and make people feel welcome. I didnt call these guys Pas anchors, i was repeating what has been said to me multiple times. This ride was registered as a training ride- no mention of drop or no drop. I was only told that a 70km ride was going to be a drop ride in the briefing- that i had to cycle 30 mins to get to. Im a small channel and just a guy who likes riding his bike much like other people- if you ride 30 mins to meet a brand for a ride and get dropped in the first 20 or a 2 hrs ride, which is what happened to the girl then i guess its a bit off putting. Im many ways its nice that other people who might think about joining the training ride on a Wednesday while on holiday can now have a bit of a better understanding. Sorry for being overly defensive
