I walked from Port Soller to Deia and back in early September 2022 and it was 34c, so yes still very hot this year in September. Thanks for your video.

Just booked my flights to do it in march 2023. Excited. I have 6 days to do it in before my flight home so hoping I can fit as much in as possible! Are there connections for the airport to port d'andrax and do you know any hostels on the route and where to book many thanks!

Hi Ashley. That’s great, good time to do it quickly I reckon. Not too hot. There’s a bus stop straight across the road once you leave the airport that takes you to Palma. Then head to the bus station where there are buses that take you to Port d’andrax. We stopped in S’Hostel d’Esporles which was great and booked through Booking.com. Other nights were a mix of hotels, tent and the refuge at Tossals Verds 👍. Check out my ‘what to expect video’ if you haven’t yet. Happy hiking 😃

Great advice thank you. Wednesday I'll do the GR221 hike as well! A question, which part you would consider more beautiful? The first part until Sóller or from Sóller to Pollenca? I only have 7 days so the whole route would be too much unfortunately ..
@siwoodward2390

I think the general feeling from quite a few is that the last day isn't the best part of the trek. So I'd say stick with leg one 👍 Have a great time!

I am just home from a second visit to the GR221. We walked, in boots ( essential as the ground is very rocky), from Puerto Andratx to Lluc in May, missing out the Esporles to Valldemosa section as we needed a rest. We found the Soller through to Lluc section, which is high mountain, just beautiful! The sections around Cuber to Tossals Verds ( a great refugi by the way) and then on to Col des Prats were lovely. We went back last week, because we wanted to do some of the summits around the Son Amer refugi and Lluc monastery, and then walk through to Pollensa. We stayed at Son Amer for three nights, the maximum you can do, summiting Puig de Massanella and Puig de Galileu. The walk from Son Amer/Lluc to Pollensa was absolutely delightful..... there seems to be a narrative around it being dull, but it takes you through some wonderful scenery and an area of biodiversity.

@@SueWinter-n4i Hi. I guess it's like anything and just subject to personal preference and what the majority enjoy more or less than the other. I don't think people think it's dull. Just perhaps not quite as exciting as other sections. I imagine that if it's all been walked in one go fatigue also plays a part in what people are enjoying 😆

Hi. Just booked my flights partly based on this video so thank you so much. Two questions are walking boots and must or is it suitable for trail shoes? I know a lot of long-distance walks can easily be done in suitable trainers or trail shoes however I’ve hiked a bit in Crete in the white mountains and you definitely want walking boots. This is a slight personal preference thing value opinion. Second question is did you use a camping stove? If so which kind of gas did you use as in which kind of gas is available. Most grateful.

@@stickyprickle Hi. Glad you enjoyed the video and booked the tickets to go. You’ll love it. I’d say it’s fine with good trail shoes. I prefer boots but it’s personal choice. To be honest mine are a mid trainer style boot. We just used a MSR pocket rocket and bought our gas from a store in Palma. There are a few outdoor stores there. Enjoy the trip 👍

Thank you , I’m now waiting in Palma for my return flight. Had an amazing time. Stayed in hostels and it was amazing. Bought anavasi Mallorca digital 1:25k. This was terrible and ended up using Komoot. I started at es cappella and got the bus Estellencs to Esporles and to Volldemossa. Finished in Pollenca. Recommend to anyone

is the 'Day 1 hill' the hill before or after Saint Elm? and without the guidebook, is there a way of recognising the correct route?
@siwoodward2390
@siwoodward2390 Жыл бұрын
Hi Rory, day 1 is heading towards Sant Elm. After the initial start and get further up the hill there are no signposts pointing the way so carefully following either the guidebook description or a bearing is quite important. If you're reasonably competent you'll not get super lost but it may make it harder and take you on a less attractive route.

How easy did you find it to book accomms along the trail? Was it often fully booked? I’m heading out next week, and will be bivvying mostly, but would like to know I can book a hostel last minute if I’m vibing it. Thanks for the vid!

Hi Simon, that's great information. It looks like you guys enjoyed the hike. Would you recommend hiking boots or trail runners ? Thanks for sharing your trip 👍
@siwoodward2390
@siwoodward2390 Жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew. Thanks for the comment. I would say it’s down to the individual. I personally prefer boots. Just a lightweight style. Especially when carrying a heavy pack. It just offers that extra ankle support. That said trail runners mean you can avoid carrying a second pair of footwear if you don’t want to wear boots around the towns at night etc. From a terrain perspective trail runners would be absolutely fine 👍

Tip #4a: Avoid taking the tent, because it's not allowed. Many people do, but be aware, that most of the country you're walking on is private property and the owners think about closing the way. So be smart, use all the refugios on the way. And if you really don't care about future hikers, be as ninja as possible. Nobody wants your poo in the garden. 🙂 Nice tips btw.

Hi, we finished at Lluc so we could have a down day before we flew back so did 120km in 7 days, another day and you would get the whole thing done.

Don’t camp on this route. It’s a 3,000 euro fine. People are constantly getting caught. Official government stance is campers aren’t quality tourists and are a major fire risk. You aren’t welcome. If you want to do this route, book accommodation well in advance, leave your tent at home and bring your wallet
@co7013

I have to agree with you. I just did (most of) the walk in februari. Book your accomodation in time. The refugios (where available) are perfect and cheap. There are mostly some alternatives and bus connections are good. I didn't regret not taking a tent.
