Jon, First off: If you ever make it to Canada let me know and we'll do a collab on some gnarly Canadian ice. Second off: European climbing is so crazy and different from Canada. The fact that you can stroll outside and take a tram up the mountain in a few minutes is wild. There are so many climbers there, everything must always be so packed. Much different from the northern wilderness I'm from. Good luck with your channel and climbing, cheers.

Hey! I'd love to try the Canadian wilderness at some point ;) The European Alps are indeed pretty packed, often with many teams climbing the same waterfall simultaneously... Easy access is not always a good thing, but given the warm winters we are having, they become handy to go high up searching for ice. Cheers!

Hey Jon, I absolutely love your videos! They are super inspiring, especially for someone like me who has a good amount of alpine experience but not so much in mixed climbing and wants to get more into the mixed stuff. One question / idea: could you do a video on how you sharpen your ice axes and crampons? Would be great to see how you do it. Thanks!

Cool video. Still... with the poor snow conditions on the lower part i am wondering if you had a thought to go down at any point?
@jonmurua
@jonmurua 2 жыл бұрын
During the approach and the lower part I wasn't sure what I'd find and I was open to bail, but I found the conditions ok. Higher up, the snow had been softened by the sun, which is normal at that time of the day in mid-June. Not ideal conditions.

Cool video. Hope I could do it one day. What was the rope for at 3:20 ?
@jonmurua
@jonmurua 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I took the rope in case I wanted to place protection and lead solo, but in the end I thought it was easy terrain and I didn't use the rope

Salut, ma question est : pourquoi aller dans ce genre de face en plein soleil en juin ? Pourquoi ne pas partir à la frontale tôt le matin pour avoir du couic ?
@jonmurua
@jonmurua 9 ай бұрын
L'heure de début est constraint par l'horaire de la télécabine. Au moins que l'on veut changer la stratégie et passer la nuit au refuge ou commencer depuis la vallée. De toute façon, c'était trop tard dans la saison pour cette voie

Awesome .... i see you had rope out , were you rope soloing and doing the pitches twice , it's confusing 😂
@jonmurua
@jonmurua Жыл бұрын
I took the rope just in case, because there is one tricky move. I anchored to rope solo this section, but one move, I realized it was easy so I unclipped and kept going solo. It was a really fun route (shame the conditions). I'll definitely repeat it

best boots ever - i have the same - walking like on a cloud :-)) i wear those for iceclimbing until - 8 degree - no prop if its colder i have to change to la sportiva
@jonmurua

I find them amazing for summer ridge climbing. Super light, good rigidity balance and confortable, but they are too cold for winter climbing or snow plods
@fabioRACE
@fabioRACE 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonmurua i was interested too in those boots for summer 4000's with long approaches. Do you think they are too cold for it?
@jonmurua
@jonmurua 2 жыл бұрын
If you plan to do more walking than climbing, maybe a bit softer boots would be better (LaSportiva Trango for example). If you plan to "climb" snow routes likes the Mont Blanc via the normal route, these boots are rather cold. These are perfect boots for ridge climbing like the Matterhorn, Eiger Mittelegi or Grandes Jorasses traverse. But, since the perfect boot for every route does not exist, I think they are great as the only pair for the summer in the Alps. Check my video of the Peuterey intégrale ridge to Mont Blanc with these boots ;)

@@jonmurua i am going to watch it! I have a pair of zamberlan eiger 3000, which i use for everything, winter and summer, and i find them amazing. However last summer during piz bernina ascent, from italian side, quite long, i wished for something lighter... obviously not as warm.... but as you said, perfect boot for everything can't exist...
