This song clearly takes from American Blues. But American Blues comes from the Deep South. From the tragic lives of the Black South. The grandfathers and grandmothers of that South were taken from West Africa. It’s no accident that if you stand on the beaches of Florida and Georgia and face East, the next land over is Mauritania and Western Sahara. This song comes full circle.

Found this at the end of that movie like I see other did. This is very smooth. It sounds like American blues guitar with this woman singing Arabic. I speak some Arabic as I worked with some people from Syria for a number of years . I was able to pick up words I read about her after listening to the song and enjoying it. I wanted to know what she was all about. Very interesting music I like it a lot.

Just read that Malouma is a mauritanian singer, which was elected as senator before a coup. Since then, she's facing censorship in her country but carry on singing for female freedom, ethnic equity and democracy. Can someone help us to have a clue about the lyrics?

She was elected before the coup and about a month after the coup the junta resumed the constitution and the speaker of the senate became president until an election was made and she remained in the senate until its dissolution in 2018 following a referendum that made the parliament unicameral, she remained a politician from the party RFD, her party was then an opposition party but now is in a coalition with the ruling party and she is far from censored, as for the lyrics they are from an 18th century poem by a Mauritanian scholar named Sheikh Al-Yadali, the poem called “صلاة ربي" meaning “the blessings of my lord”
