Man this is SO awesome. The point where the main rhythm quietens down to listen to the lead djembe is really a wonderful moment. What a superb ensemble. Mamady's djembe is physically huge....and he totally plays it like a crazy horse kicking his heels to show his energy. This is very fine percussion...love that dude sitting on the floor...applause from me. I used to play djembe and congas in an African dance class and often had the sensation of being so lost in the rhythm that I didn't even know which part of the rhythm I was playing...I was gone...all that I heard was every aspect of the rhythm...whether it was me or not, didn't matter!

Love this! Loved this!! AFO!!! NAAAMU!!! This was a recording from a 2015 Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy teacher training. This room, our dojo was at the incredible Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterey, Mexico. The ensemble backing Mamady was Jeremy Tomasck (Belgium) on songban, Kelvin Kew (Singapore) on kenkeni, Hiroki Murai (Japan) on dununba, me (Taylor from Chicago) on djembe accompaniment, Pierre Chaillan (Israel) on bass djembe - it was a magical time indeed!!

@@davidday866 am a djambe drummer myself, I play djambe with people who don't have rhythm and making what they play sound good, I think that's where the skill is..not playing with professional drummers backing you like in this video

you can look up some video of mamady playing jembe alone, he is a great showman and a fantastic drummer unaccompanied, showmanship is a big part of playing and showing expression for your music. @@SimulatorGuy

F A S T M O T I O N Mamady Keira is soloing. The dundun drummers are holding the accompaniment along with the djembe drummers so he can go ahead and solo as the lead drummer.

I often see people making enormous claims about how good a drummer this guy is. The claims seem to get bigger and bigger over time. No doubt he is a fine player but no doubt many other unknown people in his country are equally. I am sure the drummer himself would be unhappy with this kind of talk. The root of which I think is just people here on this page trying to outdo each other and give others the false notion they personally have a high skill level. Let’s put that kind of childish competition down.

Do you need a new head? ...for your djembe! The guy that made mine will do anyone's for a hundred bucks. Not cheap, but he gets his skins from Mali. I have a really small ashiko that pops with a really thin goatskin head. On another note(no pun intended) Yaya Diallo teaches with a mechanically tuned synthetic head due to the drum being always in tune regardless of weather. If you go synthetic, try before you buy. All the Remo heads I have heard aren't good. There are far better heads out there.

Hook that bad boy up. When I got my djembe that was the first thing I did was put a skin on it and had an extra for when thee initial one popped. It's always good to have a back up or two skins just in case.

Just wicked tight, great natural heading techniques from michi henning available on yt. If you are a foot traveler with drum, I gotta say that mylar really holds up but the traditionalists dont care for it. It harses the sound of the sinned drums.
