This is false lmao. Idol just refers to someone who has been through a certain period of training in order to debut at a kpop agency, like RBW. Mamamoo are also not the first to write their own lyrics. Here are some kpop idols that participate in the process of making their music: -BTS -Stray Kids -Got7 -Monsta X -Pentagon -Seventeen -Winner -Day6 -(G)-Idle -Ikon -Block-B And more recently: -Twice (only now are they allowed to make their own music) While i understand what you're trying to say, this is downplaying and minimizing all the kpop idols that work a lot to make their own music, lyrics and sometimes coreography. Mamamoo ARE artists. But they decided to make their art with the idol image. They worked o follow the career of an idol, and this is disrespecting what they chose to do. To be an idol you don't need to be an artist, but you do need to go through training at an agency. That's the only requirement. This is just disinformation and it's just a different way of saying "mamamoo are not like other girls!!!". This just isn't it :/

Idols usually don't write their own music but it has become the trend now and more companies are letting their "idols" become actual artists and have more hand in the creativity. Majority of people in Korean consider idol and artists to be different. The image is starting to change but there are more idols who don't have any hand in their own music then the ones that do which is why there is a difference.
