Mamamoo fans say that there aren't any official positions in Mamamoo like main dancer and main vocalist. They say the media/press has designated certain positions to the members based on their opinions. But Mamamoo's company hasn't given any positions like that to the members.

They really only get choreographies that are more challenging in their solo work and special clips and covers. Moonbyul gets a lot of flack for being stiff, and I understand why, but I think it’s less inability than it is choice. She feels very uncomfortable with “sexy” choreography and will modify it to make it more gender neutral or traditionally masculine (see the Queendom group performance). Wheein is a gem. I don’t think many people realize just how talented she is as a dancer. I’d probably rank her about equal with someone like Seulgi. For Solar, I think her dancing started to rapidly improve after she took up pole dancing. It’s given her better coordination and control over her isolations, and like with Hwasa, their confidence and charisma carries them through any technical difficulties.

I don't really think Moonbyul's stiffness has anything do with her feeling uncomfortable with sexy choreographies. To me it's actually her inability rather than choice. Even while doing hip hop choreographies she is stiff. I think the main problem is Moonbyul's lack of fluidity in her moves.

She might have the basics down but she doesn't execute it properly, it's almost like she's just gesturing rather than using her arms and legs fully to dance. She sticks out in 1M dance practice videos and not in a good way.

wheein is an ace! it is really saddening to see that many people don't appreciate how much she brings to the group!! here is what i think each member brings: wheein - consistency and versatility, range vocally and dance-wise solar - power, energy, and enthusiasm vocally and in presence on stage moonbyul - groundedness and variety through her unique voice/rapping and dance style hwasa - icing on the cake, she brings the confidence and embellishments with her unique vocals and strong presence each member has something so important to give to the group. for example, if moonbyul wasn't there the group would be a bunch of mostly vocalists who are sopranos so there wouldn't be variety, if wheein wasn't there it would be too concentrated in specific styles and energy levels and there wouldn't be enough well-roundedness, if solar wasn't there they wouldn't have as much power, energy, and goofiness, and if hwasa wasn't there they would have as much confidence and ability to own the stage. each member is so important, let's appreciate all of them so much!!

@@booknerdjebbi5037 i'm not 100% sure but to me I think she is a soprano who just uses her lower range more and has a huskier vocal color! i think if you compare her to moonbyul, moonbyul's voice is a lot more, i guess, diaphragmatically centered, as in i think it's really coming from a lower place, while the other members, including hwasa, are more chest/head based naturally. hwasa's voice has like a higher center than byul's??? it's hard for me to explain, but i feel like she's just a soprano with a naturally huskier timbre, i think as for like, her vocal style/role, she is considered a "mid-range belter". there's also a more technical way to measure this, based on actual notes and stuff, but i'm too lazy for that so i'm doing it based on reference of other sopranos that come to mind!! a way to, i guess, distinguish hwasa's lowness from moonbyul's lowness is the fact that hwasa is very much singing low stylistically, and she's often singing a little lower than her comfortable range, while moonbyul is just naturally low without trying, it's her comfortable range. for example, wendy of red velvet is a soprano, but due to her massive range, she can sing quite low and quite high if she wants to. even so, it's not a measure of her actual vocal type, as she is still ultimately most comfortable and consistent when singing in a more moderate soprano range. i also think it helps if you consider other lower-voiced performers like mingi of ateez and dami of dreamcatcher, who, despite having slightly lower voices, are doing a lot of work to achieve the level of lowness they produce. if they didn't make that effort, their voices would probably sit in higher range. i think hwasa is similar, her voice isn't as naturally inclined to sing super low, but she chooses to focus her energy on milking her vocal color through her lower chestier range, versus exploring her mix or head voice much. when you consider moonbyul, she is just singing low without making much effort, she doesn't need to work hard to sing low like those other individuals. or, if you compare jungkook to v of bts, jungkook could probably sing as low as v, but not comfortably, and v could sing as high as jungkook (honestly he does a lot and it makes me mad for i wish he'd explore his baritone range more :(), but also not comfortably. so, it's very much about comfort zone and natural inclination, and while i think hwasa has trained herself to feel comfortable in that range, it isn't necessarily what she initially felt comfortable in. also, hwasa has a lower talking voice, which i think could be misleading, but the way you talk versus the way you sing are two very separate things side note: also, it's possible moonbyul isn't a contralto, as people think she could be an underdeveloped mezzo or dramatic mezzo, but i still think she's in a relatively lower range than the others and is definitely not a pure soprano! it's also just difficult because sopranos can have a very broad variety of vocal types, so it is hard to distinguish them all, as there can be sopranos with overtly high voices, ones with moderate-seeming voices, and even ones with huskier voices like hwasa's! thank you for asking this question! i can't guarantee everything i said was 100% correct, but hopefully it gave some insight into hwasa's voice!! sorry if i got side-tracked a few times in my writing!!

Rbw company sucks at promoting them. People may disagree, but in my opinion, good dancers and performers mean your dance style must go well with the music or the song you are performing. If you are a singer/idol, you need to perform as a whole not just focus on dancing or whatever. If you are a dancer, you should feel the music and the flow, not only dancing like a robot with perfect movements but emotionless. So for me, MAMAMOO may not the best dance group with perfect synchronization, but their performances always make me go “wahhh”, they are always very pleasure to watch and never make me bored even they can perform the same song over and over again (thanks to their “inconsistent” creative choreography changing everytime 😌)

I think the reason byul is viewed as the main dancer is because she had more opportunities to show her skills on tv, like the shows they go to (like queendom). I would’ve liked it if Wheein were also given a chance, it can be because of her decision too but idrk the real reason. Ever since I became a Moomoo four years ago I already thought that wheein’s dancing style suits me so I thought of her as the main dancer. Most of moonbyul dances that I saw is mostly hard hitting hip hop, I’ve never seen her so sexy type (is it because she’s conservative? Correct me if I’m wrong). Wheein’s more versatile, she can do sexy concept, chill hip hop, and she’s groovy(whenever I see her freestyle, she mostly does groovy moves, which is my style which is why I love her)

Most long time moo moos recognize wheein as best but new fans are more attracted by hwasa’s sexiness and boldness and uniqueness, solars femininity and sexy and cuteness, or Moonbyul’s rapping and more manly charms that is so different than the typical girl crush. They’re each very unique and different from girl groups. But wheein on stage is just... pretty. Amazing at singing and amazing at dancing if you choose to look at her. But at first glance she doesn’t have a personality that ppl can latch onto. She shines more off stage personality wise.

Right at the start, Moonbyul lacked quick detailed Footworks which made her miss details and execute it slowly while Wheein did it with fast and detailed. At the exact moment, Wheein did a good angle with her left leg as well. Wheein and Solar were able to add good bounce in their movements. At the chorus, it was only Wheein who didn't have any tension in doing the wave while the others did. At the bride, the fall by Moonbyul and Hwasa was abit rigid. They did let their hands fall first which affected balance

They're all great dancers, but the things I think they're best at individually would be Hwasa's specific type of stage presence and charisma, solar's facial expressions (they're just really amazing), Moonbyul's unique dancing style, choreography, and her ability to do some fun freestyling (probably the only thing the video overlooked a little), and Wheein's technique and overall smoothness and versatility

Also idk if this is relevant, but the girls (especially Moonbyul) have choreographed their own songs from Mr. Ambiguous up until Wind Flower. And my two least faves choreos are Gogobebe and Hip which were made by Mina Myoung and Lia Kim respectively. I just think that Mamamoo don't especially need heavy choreos. When they do it themselves, they tend to adapt the choreo to what they think will be best in terms of vocal stability and stuff. Therefore, their performances are much closer to their core identity : a vocal group. Gogobebe and Hip choreos were cool but they had less of a chance to showcase what they're known for, i.e vocals and rap. I think that's also why they sometimes tend to under-dance. And when they want to showcase a different kind of performance, they have their solo work (solo releases and covers). I think it works out just fine for them 😊 Anyways, that was an interesting video !

In all aspects (especially vocals), this group is hard to rank given they are so versatile. That's why their official positions are not the same to other groups (with main and lead such) each member of Mamamoo almost have the same positions except the visual. They dont have a main dancer but people tend to appoint Moonbyul as one. BUT, Wheein is literally an ace in everything. Rapping, singing, dancing -- she's got it all yet still underrated

agree 100% it was really hard for me to choose 1st and 2nd as well both Moonbyul and Wheein are great dancers but I feel like Wheein has more fluidity than Moonbyul Moonbyul is amazing with more hip hop/popping choreos but she seems "stiff" when It comes to more feminine and fluid dances Wheein has great fluidity and I think she fits all genres very well Mamamoo should be recognize for their dancing much more!

Hwasa is recognized by Lia Kim and yet she's the 4th in Mamamoo in dancing 🔥 Mamamoo must be gods. I think Hwasa herself doesn't want to dance as precise on stage because part of creating stage presence is not to intimidate the audience so much so she sometimes don't do her dance parts and talk to audience more instead and also she purposely do not sync in her singing parts sometimes. If the artist is too perfect on stage with sharp moves and perfect singing, the audience will be intimidated and she couldn't make the presence as huge as she have now. This is also the case why I think if we compare Beyonce and J.Lo, Beyonce will have more presence because J.Lo focuses on dancing more and thus intimidates the audience. Well what's my point? Just saying cause as a Hwasa stan I agree with this list ^^

In my opinion, Wheein's dancing is actually very underrated among Kpop dancers / girl groups... many can do difficult moves, but Wheein has that groove, musicality and feeling to make the dance seems like it comes from the inside instead of just merely executing steps. I know Wheein is the better dancer, there is no doubt abt it, but please don’t bring one up by putting the other down. Going through all the comments saying Moonbyul doesn’t deserve to be called “a dancer”, it’s just breaks my heart. If you’re a moomoo,you probably know that Moonbyul has been dealing with body pain and in order to perform on stage she gets injections of steroids with a higher amount than normal. Seeing her trying so hard for us just makes me love her even more. I don’t care whether she is stiff or misses counts, all that matters to me is to see Moonbyul feeling so happy to be on stage and doing what she loves. It’s so rare to find a girl kpop idol doing boy group’s choreography, hip hop dance like Moonbyul. I’m always fascinated by her body waves and the power, the energy that she puts in every dance moves!! I just love MMM so much
