Mama Sue makes TEA CAKES | Old Southern recipes | Southern cooking | cookie recipe

I'm sure most of you have had tea cakes that your grandmother made. I think I can smell them cooking if I think hard enough. Tea cakes were made often because most people had flour, sugar, eggs, and butter. I did use melted butter but I believe most just use the softened butter. I think the melted make it easier to work with. My daughter, Amy, had a cookie-cutter of the state of Alabama tied to my Christmas present so I used it for these tea cakes. I love it and it's an added bonus that the tea cakes are bigger.

Ms. Sue, Your daughter gave you a precious gift 🎁. I know you like your Alabama cookie cutter. Lucky you Alabama is a big state so it makes for a easy to cut out cookie and more to eat, lol. My great-grandmother used to make these all the time. She had a little bit of powdered clove and cinnamon. But they were exactly the same with the melted butter and the eggs and sugar whipped together. Thank you for bringing back such a special memory! Roll Tide. 😊

Oh I have enjoyed watching this video. These are so different from our English Teacakes which I have just made and set for their first rising.The English Teacake is made with bread flour , dried fruit and spices. It's like a bread bun in shape, sweet and fruity. Keep well and keep baking.❤
