'Mami Wata' (2023) Movie Trailer - Mermaid Goddess of West Afrika

Dekanalog is bringing MAMI WATA to U.S. cinemas on September 29, 2023.
The black and white Nigerian film is about a very dark mermaid legend from Africa. The film's director, CJ "Fiery" Obasi, previously directed the 2014 Nigerian zombie movie OJUJU.
"In the oceanside village of Iyi, the revered Mama Efe (Rita Edochie) acts as an intermediary between the people and the all-powerful water deity Mami Wata. But when a young boy is lost to a virus, Efe’s devoted daughter Zinwe (Uzoamaka Aniunoh) and skeptical protégé Prisca (Evelyne Ily Juhen) warn Efe about unrest among the villagers. With the sudden arrival of a mysterious rebel deserter named Jasper (Emeka Amakeze), a conflict erupts, leading to a violent clash of ideologies and a crisis of faith for the people of Iyi."
C.J. “Fiery” Obasi’s potent modern fable deploys vivid monochromatic black-and-white cinematography, rich sound design, and a hypnotic score in a folk-futurist style both earthy and otherworldly. Obasi depicts a pitched battle between opportunistic militants promising technological progress and a matriarchal spiritual order living in fragile harmony with the ocean. Mami Wata transports us to a place that seems both suspended in time and perhaps running out of time, as the threats of modern life wash up on its shores.

Looks very interesting and it's beautifully shot, monochromatically! 👏🏾 I would like to add, just for historic reference for any interested, that Mami Wata wasn't one deity or being but was actually plural, consisting of many African water deities (who would later be called mermaids/mermen by Europeans), and first showed up in the Dogon spiritual beliefs, 4,000 years ago, in the region of what is now present-day Mali (although much of Ancient Western and Eastern Africa venerated the Mami Wata). Also, for those new to this name, "Mami Wata" was linguistically derived from the language of Ancient Kemet (now modern-day Egypt), and doesn't mean "mama water", which could understandably be confused as such, because their mythology existed thousands of years before English even existed. Just FYI 😉✊🏾

How is Mami Wata related to the Sybils, ancient prophetesses & priests when Africa encompassed modern day Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Africa before the Cacusoids from the steppes of Russia invaded and pushed them into today’s subsahara Africa? Curious. The Sybils were dark skinned during matriarchy. They have been whitewashed and take European and Arab identities. Interesting.

Come don't fool your self ok. The great GODDESS the mother of water is the all authority and power and she is in control of all, there is no god at there that you have been made to believe that is more than Her or up to Her and her children ok. Until the whole world realizes this there will be no peace, no stupid teaching out there can save the world period.

In the bible god commands his chosen people to commit genocide against the Canaanites, Joshua, (slaughter all the young, bash babies head against rocks, but keep young virgin girls for your know what), repeatedly, god commands such atrocities; AND jesus says he did came to fulfil the laws... Another example ? Deuteronomy 22:20-21 demands that women who are not virgins on their wedding night they should be stoned to death. There are hundreds more examples. So, tell me, on a scale of 1-10 (use yourself as an example), how despicably depraved of a human must you be to follow the god (or leader or king) of such a faith ?

The thing I don't understand is just how we all can't see how lost we have been. Who taught us the bible ? Not CHRISTIANITY...that means to be Christ Like. Our CAPTORS HONEY.
