I have always been partial to using wide angle lenses, so I must admit that the 50mm is my favorite RZ lens. The camera's light weight makes it feasible to hand hold the camera, but the COVID lockdown restrictions made me regret not buying a hand grip when they were in production during the 1990s. The 50mm lens also facilitates producing beautiful images indoors under favorable lighting conditions without flash while using a tripod and careful positioning.

Thanks for this. I don't shoot my RZ very much but this would be a great addition. Looking around, I found one but for way more than your price. Maybe later.

The standard RZ 50mm is a fantastic performer. And as you state in your review, a great value as well. I own the ULD version as well. And while optically superior and corrected, its weight and FLE (manually corrected noted as M L-A), limits its use to a tripod for my use. There are 2 versions of most RZ standard lenses. Early lens versions have 1 stop aperture adjustments. Later versions have 1/2 stop increments. These versions add 1/2 stop indicators on the aperture ring and have a ‘W’ notation on the lens barrel. Thanks for the review.

always enjoy your videos, thank you. mamiya lenses, even the expensive ones are still relatively affordable compared to zeiss or schneider lenses for the rollei 6000 series.

A refreshing change! Will you consider doing a Zenza Bronica video sometime? I was looking at them a lot on eBay about 15-20 years ago, and I wish I'd bought one. The prices have gone so high I doubt I'll ever own one.

Thanks for your comment. We actually have an in-depth review about the Zenza Bronica SQ-A on the channel that we produced years ago. Might be interesting for you to
I have bought so many Mamiya , Horseman and Fujinon lenses on Ebay Japan from Japan so it will be no problem to buy your RZ67 in Japan . I use the Mamiya RB67 Pro SD with K/L lenses . They are optical the same like RZ lenses . Greetings from the Netherlands Peter .

Thank you so much for your kind comment. I really appreciate it and personally love my Mamiya cameras. I even look forward to exploring the vintage Mamiya market in Japan once I get a chance to go there.

The building in the editorial in the beginning? That’s located in Munich and belongs to BMW. It’s famously called “Vierzylinder”.

Mamiya is a bargain, I find the lenses more affordable than the CZ lenses for my Hasselblad.

zeiss lenses are arguably better quality, but not by much. RZ platform all around is great value for 6x7!

Minimum focusing distance 45 mm? (5:43) I think 45 cm is correct ;-)
@AnalogInsights3 ай бұрын
No, really 45mm. You wouldn’t be able to produce these close-ups otherwise.
@joerg_koeln3 ай бұрын
The focusing distance is typically metered from the film plane (or sensor), but not from the lens‘ filter ring. 😉
@AnalogInsights3 ай бұрын
@@joerg_koelnAh, I see. Particularly confusing in this case because of the bellows focusing. Thanks for pointing this out.

Heavy medium format ruins your back If you are planning to ruin your cervical spine than use the extreme heavy Pentax 6x7 system. Especially the RZ or RB67 in combination with the waist-level finder. The hunched posture while taking shots in this video is not looking good to keep a healthy back. Many professionals can tell you a thing or two about it after a few years using this cement bag camera. I wouldn't recommend this heavy camera to anyone.

Medium format is often overrated. Medium format is in my opinion often overrated. Yes the negative is larger and you can zoom in better. But there is often a disturbing background and unpleasant bokeh in the shots. The medium format photo is falling apart when you look closer. The lenses are in most cases not the best ones in comparison with very sharp prime lenses in 135mm format. Also the focal length of the medium format lenses is in most cases not ideal. Less variety. The bokeh of 135 mm prime format lenses is normally better, the fore- and the background fit more. The bigger format isn't always better looking. It isn't all about sharpness and enlargement possibilities. It's about the general look, the impressions of the photos. In my opinion, 135mm film portraits often overall look better than those in medium format. Especially when we use 85 or 100mm lenses at f1,8 or f2,0. Medium format photographers use normally converted around 40 to 50mm lenses. And that's not a good solution for portraits.
