Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail (born 7 September 1951)better known by his stage name Mammootty, is an Indian film actor and producer who works predominantly in Malayalam cinema. In a career spanning four decades, he has appeared in over 400 films, mainly in Malayalam language and also in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English..
Mammootty initially used the stage name Sajin in his early films. After establishing himself as a lead actor in the 1980s, his major breakthrough came with the commercial success of the 1987 film New Delhi. He has won three National Film Awards for Best Actor, seven Kerala State Film Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South. In 1998, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his contributions to the arts He has also received honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Kerala in January 2010 and from the University of Calicut in December 2010.
Mammootty has appeared in neighbouring industries as well. He entered Tamil cinema through Mounam Sammadham (1990), in Telugu cinema through Swati Kiranam (1992), in Bollywood through Triyathri though his debut as a lead was in Dhartiputra (1993). He debuted in Kannada cinema through the bilingual film, Shikari (2012). He also acted in an Indian English film Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000).
Mammootty is the chairman of Malayalam Communications, which runs the Malayalam television channels Kairali TV, People TV and WE TV. He is the goodwill ambassador of the Akshaya project, the first district-wide e-literacy project in India. He is the patron of the Pain and Palliative Care Society, a charitable organisation in Kerala formed with the aim of improving the quality of life among patients with advanced cancer.
Mammootty was born Muhammad Kutty Ismail Panaparambil on 7 September 1951 in Chandiroor in Travancore (now Kerala), and raised in the village of Chempu near Vaikom in Kottayam district in the present-day state of Kerala, India in a middle-class, Muslim family. His father, Ismail, had the wholesale business of garments and rice, and also the cultivation of rice while his mother, Fatima, was a housewife. He was their eldest son. He has two younger brothers, Ibrahimkutty and Zakariah and three younger sisters, Ameena, Sauda and Shafina.
Mammootty went to Government High School, Kulasekharamangalam, Kottayam for his primary education. In the 1960s, his father moved the family to Ernakulam, where he attended Government School Ernakulam. He did his pre-university course (pre-degree) at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. He attended Maharaja's College, Ernakulam for his degree. He graduated with a LL.B. from Government Law College, Ernakulam. Mammootty practiced law for two years in Manjeri.
Mammootty married Sulfath in 1979,[5] and has a daughter Surumi (born 1982), and a son Dulquer Salmaan (born 1986). He resides at Kochi, Ernakulam with family. Mammootty's younger brother Ibrahimkutty is an actor in Malayalam films and Malayalam TV serials. Ibrahimkutty's son Maqbool Salmaan is also a film actor.

Well said..This is the perfect analysis on mammooty acting. What you said about the similarities in daniel day lewis and ikka, i have felt the same too. But i think, Mam is more flexible in doing method acting , just look up the variations in each charctrs, its not like just 5 or 6 chrctrs of DDL. and his perfection in each charctrs is unbelievable. can you compare Kamal and mammooty in terms of method acting and do an analysis video plse.

@@charuprakash4874 yes. Kamal the best all-rounder.. A perfect artist. But even malayalis consider kamal when talking abt method actng. I havnt seen any complete transformations in kamal, from guna alavandan anbeshivan to dashavatharam, when we observe the acting carefully.. We can identify he is acting like those charctrs.. But in case of mammootty.. He just do it naturally through MA. I think no one reached the level of transformation that mammoty did in paleri, and pranchi.. There even more chrctrs.

Yes..bro.. everybody, praising kamal as finest method actor in India, but I always felt.. mammoty is more versatile, (his 3 national awards for 5 movies) mathilukal to vadakkan veeragatha, vidheyan to ponthmada and Ambedkar ,is enough for range, character transermation and versatility. Kamal did few good roles that's it..and part of good movies

Neither Mammootty nor Kamal are perfect method actors compared to Hollywood. In terms of versatile acting, Mammootty is more able to character transformation than Kamal. Most of the Kamal transformed characters have his stagnated mannerisms, whereas Mammootty hasn't. Meanwhile, Kamal is better somewhere in performance than both Mammootty and Lal. He can somewhere be a combined version of Mammootty and Mohanlal too.

Methodum illa oru thengayum illa. Mamooty relies on script and thats it. He creates a nonflexible image of a character based on his ability which is brilliant and works hard to fully form it in his imagination. This image of the character is based on the notes and cues given by director but mammooty already has his own version. And yeah he doesnt joke around in between shots. This is not what you call as method acting. Infact there is no method actor in kerala. True method actors are in hollywood who have studied under the acting coach. Stop confusing ones self method to so called method acting
