Man and Machine: Part I

An exciting blend of ambient generative synth, film music, jazz, funk, and prog rock. Discontented with not being able to play with bands because of the pandemic, I created a musical robot to jam with.
To create this track I created a complex generative modular patch using the patch notes below. As the patch was running I improvised a drum track over top. After that was recorded and mixed, a general song form began to organically preset itself. I codified that naturally occurring form with a bass track. Lastly, being a film composer, I couldn't help but compose some moody film score-esque orchestra parts.
The short version of the patch notes is as follows:
Pamela's New Workout is clocking everything. Squarp Hermod is controlling the Expert Sleepers Disting EX, in multisample mode, playing Spitfire Audio's Soft Piano. Disting EX is going through Strymon Magneto, which is being modulated by Instruo Ochd. Marbles is generating random pitches, quantized to a pentatonic scale and sending them off to the Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Research Lab. The VRL is going through Mutable Instruments Clouds, which is firing grains in 16th note patterns, creating a sort of atmospheric rhythm guitar sound. The Squarp Hermod is randomly modulating the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator. One channel of Qu-Bit Bloom is generating a sequence that is playing a drum sound from Mutable Instruments Braids, which is being piped through the Qu-Bit Data Bender for a wonerfully glitchy rhythm ambience. The Make Noise Woggle Bug is modulating most parameters on Mutable Instruments Braids. Lastly, Euclidean Circles is sequencing a (sort-of) looping bass drum and hi-hat pattern on Mutable Instruments Peaks.
I am drumming on a Yamaha DTX-900 Electronic Drum Set. I am triggering drum samples from Toontracks Superior Drummer. I used Toontracks EZ-Bass for my bass programming and composed the string parts using a combination of 8dio Adagio and Agitato Strings, Spitfire Audio BBC Symphony Orchestra, CineSample CineWinds and CineBrass, and EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra.
