This was the tail end of the Changing of the Guard with the St. James's detachment marching from Buckingham Palace to St. James's Palace. The Household Cavalry were not part of this and were just riding back to their barracks in Knightsbridge, having been relieved at Horse Guards. The two guard changes occasionally cross.
