The omission of any moisture barrier between your foundation beams and the cement and eyeballing drill holes through incredibly expensive wood and then loosely fitting it over the rods really put me on edge. Cement and metal conduct both moisture and temperature and wood disintegrates 10x faster without the barrier, even treated lumber that's drilled does so. It's a nice structure but it's lifespan would easily be doubled with some pretty cheap and basic modern builder insights.

I love how these sustainability wackos preach about how sustainable they build while they're destroying what was a pristine lot overlooking the sea,.... by cutting down trees and sticking a cabin on the site that is sheathed and decked with 2" thick (I guess site milled) lumber like it grows on trees. Talk about overkill. Same with these off grid people who think they're saving the planet. What if the 7 or 8 billion people in the world all decided to go to a seaside lots or into the forests and mountains and build their off grid cabin? There wouldn't be a piece of land with a tree on it or a view to see the sea. There'd just be cabins everywhere.... It would look like India and Bangladesh. Sustainable is staying off the seaside lots, and out of the forest and the mountains,.. and living in the tallest smallest foot print building that could be built. So spare normal people the "sustainabilityBS. You lose the "sustainability claim the minute you stick a shovel in the ground. You want to build a cabin... fine,... just don't tell everyone how sustainable you are.

I would haul 300-500 gallons from the stream into 2 55 gallon drums and drive 10 miles and drain them into a storage tank. No water, no shitter which the women just loved using the outhouse. Great job and very interesting video. However, I have a couple of comments. The framing was well designed with attention given to assuring stability with the exception of the roof joists. I wonder why you didn't notch the joists to fit over the ridge beam and the upper wall framing beam. Also, I have to comment on the complete lack of safety equipment: no fall arrest, no safety glasses, no gloves, no head protection. I'm giving you credit for safety shoes although I'm not too sure about that. My point being that you have to be alive and healthy to get maximum enjoyment from that beautiful little cabin.
