I have out grown my reloading room. I had to expand my shop, more sq ft for additional equipment. I am just getting started, I have a lot more to share. Please subscribe if you like my video's. I want to be able to do video's longer that 15 minutes.

Hi. Nice setup. Might I suggest that you store your primers in air tight containers with desiccant packs? They are pretty stable but moisture can affect them if you have enough humidity for a long enough time. Also, you reduce the likelihood of accidentally knocking a box of primers down and having a giant explosion from sympathetic detonation. As for powder, its great you have it stored somewhere now. Given how much you are buying it makes sense to buy 8lb bottles. Saves money, less space etc.

Nick Knight, primers are a lot more stable then you might imagine. I stopped reloading for many years (>10), and they were "stored" in a non insulated plywood storage hut, in nothing more then their original packaging. High Desert = high heat summers, cold and humid winters. I used them first when I started reloading again, and they worked without fail. Same with IMR powders.

Hey mine actually making money it paid for itself! Corbin press swaged 9mm copper jacketed bullets and 223\5.56 and 308! Got over 10,000lbs of lead for free! I got a old log splitter for free made a excursion die to make lead wire for the bullets! I'm in the process of building my own hydro press like corbin's made the whole thing from tractor parts(hydrolic) and it is working waiting on sensors to do it automatically!

What are you going to spend the other $17,500 on after you buy half a dozen Lee LoadMasters, a couple single-stages and everything else in that reloading room? LoadMasters are about $200 with dies for one cartridge and Lee Classic Cast single-stage presses are $100-$125 apiece. The most expensive thing in that room overall is the powder and primers. $20-$30 per pound and about $30 per brick. I'd probably revise my estimate to $5000 after seeing the powder/primers so you only have to spend an extra $15000. If it were me I'd be back up to about $16,000 to spend because I'd do with those LoadMasters exactly what I did with mine as soon as I stopped looking at it and started using it and had about 500 rounds through it tops. Traded it to a buddy with an "old" Dillon RL550 he'd had for a LONG time and had gotten in a trade and had never even set up or even dug clear through the box to see what all was there and let him take the LoadMaster to a gun show where he got $175 out of it and thought trading straight across was a "fair deal". That old RL550 came with at least $500 in "spare parts" like powder measure bars and primer bars and a complete additional primer system and several spare toolheads, etc and I think I probably got about $1000 worth of Dillon in a straight across trade for $250 worth of LoadMaster. I tried to tell him repeatedly he was getting screwed but he insisted that was a fair trade and I eventually stopped arguing with him. The LoadMaster was "set up" right out of the box (on paper, lol) for .45 ACP and despite already being "set up" it took my diesel mechanic brain and hands and lots of "tweaking" and "adjusting" over the course of what probably ended up being several hours to finally "achieve" something like 100 consecutive rounds without a malfunction. And then I thought I was in the clear because my pre-purchase research and watching "reviews" indicated the ONE "weakness" MIGHT BE the plastic parts in the primer feed system and I'd had ZERO issues with that. I told myself that because I'd "planned ahead" and bought an entire additional primer feed assembly for it as well as some other small plastic parts it looked immediately upon opening the box like I'd be smart to have on hand, I'd probably NEVER need that spare primer assembly and all the "issues" I had that no "reviewer" mentioned that I'd worked through and figured out and had licked were because the "set up" at the factory or retailer had been done "on the fly" and Lee being Lee certainly it couldn't be so complicated that it could give serious problems. Yeah. About the time I got all those other "issues" sorted out and had avoided ripping the press off the bench ($100,000 in Snap-On Tools and 25 years of working machines from nitro RC cars to General Electric 4500-hp diesel-electric Evolution freight locomotives (Union Pacific) so machines worth hundreds of dollars to millions of dollars and untold tens of thousands more of my money in guns and reloading equipment from brand new to 100+ years old and long experience with "good tools" and "cheap tools" and zero with "good cheap tools" give me a little different perspective on what is or isn't "acceptable' as far as "bugs" to be worked out of something I buy new to use rather than to "restore" ) and throwing it through the window or any of the other "creative" ways I plotted its destruction when a "long run" of malfunctionless reloading was 5 rounds and thought I'd finally "paid my dues", the freaking primer tool started acting up. And so I "diagnosed" it and replaced only the necessary parts and it still wasn't right. So I swapped in the entire new primer tool and as soon as it had worked "flawlessly" for another 100 rounds, the whole mess came off the bench and went back into the box because I'd decided long before it was gone but I wasn't going to pawn it off "as-is" at the time I decided that and made up my mind I at least had to be able to honestly say it'd made 100 rounds in an hour with no malfunctions (seemed to be the big "achievement" mentioned in multiple review videos) no matter who I was selling it too but I also made up my mind I wasn't going to sell it or even GIVE IT to anybody I liked IF they intended to use it. But when my buddy said he'd take in trade for an "old Dillon 550 but not a "B" so its probably early 1980s and I have no idea what all is there" I jumped at it. Fast forward to a big box o' "vintage" Dillon parts and about an hour of "inventorying" and making sure everything the original owners manuals (one for it as an original RL550 then an RL550 manual with "550B supplements" including a photocopied 550B parts list dated 1986) showed was there and purchasing a few small parts that weren't or looked like they'd be handy to have around and when I finally got it "mounted" on the bench (I wasn't getting "serious" about another "dream press" and it was mounted with C-clamps and Vise-Grips until we proved each other worthy of the other's partnership) and commenced to "setting it up" I found it took me about 15 minutes or maybe 20 for the basics, maybe another relaxed and low-stress hour "adjusting" things and when I thought I had things pretty close to avoid disappointment I actually made myself wait and go back over it again before trying "full production". I think it took me about 30-40 minutes of what I considered and still consider "fast" reloading to crank out 100 rounds and it was the empty primer tube I'd filled with a full tray of primers that I thought MUST be JAMMED when it stopped spitting them out that tipped me off my "pile" of loaded cartridges was a 100-round pile. It hasn't ALL been smooth sailing and I've spent several hundred more dollars setting up dedicated tool heads with powder measures for 9mm, .40 and .223 but overall I've had fewer issues in many thousands of rounds with that "vintage" Dillon that shows PLENTY of wear on the frame where the primer bars slide or at least did before I put the super slider bearing plate "upgrade" on it than I had in 500 rounds max with that brand-new Lee. I'm not trashing Lee as a company because I've got a LOT of Lee stuff I love. Die sets, ALL of my casting stuff including my 10-lb bottom pour pot and 3 6-cavity molds and 2 2-cavity molds for 160-grain, 200-grain and 230-grain .45 bullets and 145-grain and 175-grain .40 bullets AND of course my Lee Classic Cast .50 BMG kit that was $200 including press, dies, adapter parts to "downsize" the press for standard 7/8" dies etc which was such a bargain when I decided I wanted a neck-sizing .50 BMG die I wasn't even that "bummed" that to get one I had to buy a 2-die neck-sizing die set for $90 and ended up with a "spare" seating/crimp die. That set up turns out 1 MOA @ 500 yards (furthest I've shot for "groups") $1-$1.50 per round .50 BMG loads using once-fired Lake City brass, surplus pulldown 647-grain FMJ bullets, surplus pulldown WC872 powder from 20mm cannon shells I bought 48 lbs of for $6 per pound delivered and super "cheap" CCI #35 primers that same buddy got me a whorehouse deal on at Cabela's "under the mountain" (that's where they keep the returned ammunition, components, etc and he was an "insider" back then because he'd been Gun Library manager and his wife still worked there) where he found me 2000 primers and 6-7 lbs of Hodgdon 50BMG powder I ended up paying $300 for instead of the $750ish "retail price" (CCI #35s are about $.30 apiece minimum and come in 500-primer "bricks") and that depending on my powder charges clock 2250 fps out of my AR-50 with 200 grains or 2650 fps with 220 grains and thanks to Lee all-told "lock stock and barrel" (pun intended) and my buddy and ANOTHER buddy (also a Cabela's insider due to his wife's job there) who got me a $900 Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP scope with the E2-C reticle for $650, I ended up getting into .50 for $5000 max. So I've got nothing against Lee at all WHEN it comes to SIMPLE ITEMS with FEW IF ANY MOVING PARTS. I had a Lee hand primer I thought was OK until I got a Hornady unit and I'd say HAND PRIMERS are about as complex as Lee can make machines while still making them WELL ENOUGH to be a a "bargain" compared to much more expensive "competitors". As far as PROGRESSIVE SELF-INDEXING PRESSES, there's no way to make one GOOD and CHEAP and I think Lee LoadMasters are a "fail" because that's what they tried to do. Too much plastic in very important and hard to get to places/mechanisms and if they'd have put another $50 worth of parts and engineering into each press and Lee was selling them for $100 more they'd PROBABLY be a "decent" deal. Only the lack of competition for even double or close to triple the cost and the lack of direct competition makes them a "good deal" and then only to people new enough to reloading and with limited if any experience reloading pistol ammo on a single-stage press and for whom "100 rounds an hour" sounds like an amazing reloading rate. And I'm thinking only until an "issue" crops up. Because I'd say my Lee Loadmaster was doing good to average 25 rounds per hour over the whole time I "operated" it and since somewhere around that same time I manged to crank out 800 rounds of .223 Winchester in about one good long day of reloading actually spread over two days which figured out to somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 rounds per hour of actual "reloading time". And obviously pistol/handgun ammo takes one extra "pass" through a single-stage so I PROBABLY couldn't load 100 rounds per hour of .45 ACP on my single-stage without REALLY hitting it hard and I don't like rushing reloading regardless. But given the construction I can't see anybody getting 200 rounds per hour out of a LoadMaster for hours and hours on end and even at 200 rounds per hour, I can pretty easily keep up with my manual-indexing RL550 without working too hard. Progressive self-indexing presses also HAVE TO WORK RIGHT or they are less than useless because they make work when they don't make ammo.

This is great! Been away from reloading for 30 years and just got a Loadmaster which I have been using for a few weeks now. The thing was flawless out of the box. Worst thing is sometimes there is an upside down case getting fed. So what? Only have made a few thousand rounds. I take my time and operate well below what this press can put out. I check EVERY round before putting it in a box. I could go a LOT faster but then the fun would just be over sooner. I also check EVERY round for powder before seating (pistol) but one time there was a double powder charge. Thats why I check. I still don’t know how that happened.

Impressive setup but I think I would not show this on You Tube I believe ATF has a limit on number of primers which may be in possession and that much powder I think is to be is a specific storage. Just saying because another channel had video of a guy shooting an AK pistol with a vertical fore grip and ATF contacted that video poster.

@deeremeyer1749
@deeremeyer1749 6 жыл бұрын
You're smoking crack. You could replace all those $275 LoadMasters with Dillon 1050s and there wouldn't be "$30k" in that room. The only "big money" is on the powder/primer shelves and you're looking at $30 per pound and $30 per brick MAX. All of the pistol powder is closer to $20 per pound than $30. If that's a "$30k" reloading room I've got "$30k" in mine and I'll sell YOU the whole works for ONLY $15,000 and you can fit it all in a room half the size and won't need a bench for my presses because they're all on a steel stand. And I guarantee he won't be NEARLY as proud of those shiny new LoadMasters once he actually USES THEM. Been there and done that. I love Lee products and have a pile of Lee stuff up to and including my .50 BMG press and die sets and half my other dozen or so die sets are Lee with the other half being RCBS. And I've got a Lee lead pot that unlike his has actually been used and 3 6-cavity molds and 2 2-cavity molds and 2 ingot molds ALSO all Lee to with THAT. But there's no such thing as a "good" and "cheap" ANYTHING when it comes to tools (25 years as a diesel mechanic and $75,000 or so in Snap-On tools and lots of hours worked dozens or hundreds of miles from "home base" out of a service truck and "as good as Snap-On" according to DIY "shadetree wannabes" have proved THAT too me repeatedly) and there is nothing more frustrating and flat-out WRONG than a brand-new tool that has to be "tweaked" or "adjusted" or "fiddled with" right out of the box. And that's ALL I did for the first 10 hours of "use" with my LoadMaster that was "already set up" for .45 ACP "out of the box". I EXPECTED to have some primer system issues since that was the ONLY "issue" some "reviewers" said MIGHT be a problem on a LoadMaster. And it stood to reason since they're all plastic parts and its a $250 press. But I had ZERO problems with the primer system even though I bought all the "recommended" spare parts and even a complete spare primer tool assembly. It was literally every other part of the press I had problems with and the more I "adjusted" and "tinkered" the more pissed off I got. Because those things have so much plastic in them and in all the WRONG PLACES it's just pathetic. You can't put that much plastic in the places they do like the INDEXING SYSTEM and expect them to last. And you can't "adjust" plastic. FINALLY when I got everything "working right" and had managed to load 100 whole rounds (I loaded thousands of rounds of pistol, revolver and rifle ammo for at least 8 or 9 different cartridges on a single-stage for a good year or more before I even THOUGHT about a "progressive" so I knew what the hell I was doing) without a malfunction I figured I'd finally turned the corner. And I hung it up for the day and literally didn't touch the press for several days and gave myself a "break" from reloading which I love at LEAST as much as shooting and "celebrated" by "burning" some ammo at the height of the "ammo shortage" in 2012-2013 because BY GOD EVEN THOUGH I ONLY HAD A FEW HUNDRED "SPARE" .45 ACP cases I had a WORKING PROGRESSIVE PRESS and could "splurge" a little and shoot a couple hundred rounds on a weekend and not have to spend two or three hours a night two or three nights the following week reloading it on a single-stage. I could load that much in an HOUR OR TWO NO-SWEAT. Yeah. LITERALLY the very next time I used the press I hadn't touched for days and left in "perfect working order" the PRIMER SYSTEM STARTED FUCKING UP FROM ROUND ONE. I tinkered and diagnosed and started installing some of my individual replacement parts and it'd work "well" for all of maybe 25 rounds and ten minutes and then something ELSE would go to shit. Finally I realized how stupid it was to replace the entire primer assembly one piece at a time since by the time I got all the pieces replaced given how long the original parts had lasted I'd literally have to start over again and just keep replacing one part after another every 25 rounds and ten minutes and spend 20 minutes doing it. And I'd heard that the new primer systems were "upgraded" and that there was a "better" one that was like black instead of red or some shit and I'd specifically ordered the "new and improved" one or so I'd thought. But when I opened the package it looked just like the old one. And when I installed the whole damned thing, guess what? I HAD PRIMER TOOL ISSUES FROM THE WORD GO WITH A BRAND NEW PRIMER TOOL JUST LIKE "REVIEWERS" HAD KINDA-SORTA "MENTIONED" THEY'D HAD THEM. How I got a "good" one that managed to go all of MAYBE 500 rounds over 10 hours I have no idea. Maybe my new press had the "new and improved" one in it and the spare was one of the "old and crappy" ones. Didn't matter. I was done. It was gone, I offered to GIVE it to a very experienced lifelong shooter/hunter/reloader/former Cabela's gun library manager/former cop buddy of mine and told him if he got it working well enough to do 100 rounds he could sell the son of a bitch to anybody I didn't know but only if it did 100 rounds "reliably" so he and I could "stand behind it". Well, he tinkered with it some and maybe used some of his connections to get some "good" replacement parts and got it "reliable" enough to take it to a gun show where he sold it for $175. I didn't even let him take the .45 ACP dies out of it because they came with it and were going with it. In "trade" he gave me an "old Dillon 550 but not a 550B I traded for years and years ago that's supposed to be all there with a few spare parts but honestly I never even looked in the box so it could be anything" and that "old Dillon" ended up being an early 80s Dillon RL550 with at least $500 in "extra parts" like toolheads and a complete primer system and powder measure bars and primer bars etc etc etc. Easily $1000 worth of hardware were it all brand-new and WITHOUT the pointless PITA "fail safe powder measure" actuator system the 550Bs have. I tried giving him money to boot but he wouldn't hear of it. I think within in about an hour of throwing the "box o' parts" on the bench and beginning to "take stock" I had it mounted on the bench with a C-clamp and a pair of Vise-Grips and "set up" well enough to adjust the dies and within two hours total I'm pretty sure I'd ripped off 100 rounds so "fast" that when the primer system "malfunctioned" and there was no new primer in the bar I was POSITIVE the press was screwing up and primer system karma was kicking my ass again. NO WAY its OUT of primers. I put in a whole `100-ct tray. Well I'll be damned. It IS out of primers so there's 100 rounds in that "nice little pile" and without a hiccup and without even "trying" and mainly just marveling at how well something that's built RIGHT can work even "thrown together" out of "spare parts" sitting in a box for years or decades and with NOTICEABLE WEAR on major parts like the FRAME (eventually put a super slider shiny bearing plate there were the primer bars slide back and forth - only way to fix them permanently after some moron owner has ran them dry and dirty for tens or hundreds of thousands of rounds and the bars have "grooved" the frame) and with a complete "rookie" who'd never even SEEN a Dillon press in person putting it together mainly by looking at the pictures in the original service manual and just tinkering with it. It hasn't ALL been smooth sailing and I've learned a lot about it and some things I've had to learn repeatedly because with a GOOD PROGRESSIVE PRESS and more ammo/components that I'll probably ever shoot I CAN "splurge" and "burn" a couple hundred rounds just playing around and LITERALLY RELOAD THEM IN A COUPLE HOURS INCLUDING 30-45 MINUTES OF WET TUMBLING. I still have lots of Lee stuff and my "cheap" Lee .50 BMG Classic Cast kit that was $200 including dies and the $80 Lee Collet Neck Sizing die set I also bought for .50 are the primary reason I was able to get into .50 "big-time" for under $5000 including my brand-new AR-50 and Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP scope and with those "cheap" Lee products I have loaded 1 MOA @ 500 yards "plinking" ammo that costs me $1-$1.50 per round that only the PRIMERS are new in with once-fired Lake City .50 BMG cases, surplus pulldown 647-grain FMJ bullets and surplus pulldown WC872 powder out of 20mm cannon shells I bought 48 lbs of for $6 per pound delivered. And I honestly wasn't even "trying" to shoot a 500-yard 1 MOA group. It just sort of happened as I was sighting on the 500-yard plate to keep from putting a .50 hole in my chronograph I had to put more like 15 feet in front of the rifle because...it's a .50 and 5 feet just don't cut it. But when it comes to complex machines like auto-indexing progressive presses, there's no such thing as "good and cheap". And Lee could have put a little more work and better materials into a couple key areas of the LoadMaster and could be selling it for double the money and it would still be 50% cheaper than any other auto-indexing press out there and if worked correctly out of the box as simple and easy to understand/set up as they are it would be a hell of a deal. But they didn't, they don't, they won't and because I can literally load ammo as fast as my "best time" ever on a brand-new LoadMaster on my single-stage RCBS without killing myself and I can EASILY double its output on my Dillon 550 without even trying hard and I know I could do the same even on a Dillon Square Deal B and no amount of "good luck" is going to keep a LoadMaster running "long term" with all that plastic, I literally wouldn't take another LoadMaster if you gave it to me. Because the only use I'd have for it would be selling it or trading it or giving it as a gift and without getting it out and "testing it" I wouldn't be confident 10 hours of tinkering at least like I put into mine just to get 100 rounds "in a row'" with no failures would be enough to get it to 200 rounds total. This video is just under 2 years old and I'll bet he's changed his tune.

Safest way to store altogether gunpowder, fire/heat-proof exposure and anti-static safe/storage, maybe 2ft steel safe wall. It takes little mistake, fire or product error and it's all over. I'm a Dillon guy but really like some of the Lee stuff as well. Great price and very good quality. My reloading room is a little bigger buy not so many presses as I can simply switch out calibers in 2 min on the Dillons. I also have used about 4 or 5 powders to load everything I've shot over the past 30 years. To me it's better to stick to a few good loads rather than chase powders and "New" "best" loads. I've loaded roughly 250k rounds(I log all of my loads) on one of my 550's with only minor slowdowns. The Lee's are good but seem to not handle the volume without "down" time from what I've seen. Good stuff though!

Mine is a refinished section of old bowling alley on a STOUT 2x4 base. You want heavy and stiff unless you can get heavier and stiffer. Don't skimp on the bench ... if you give the design a little forethought you will be building something that will outlast you. There are 14 2x4s in my 21" by 71" design (sized for the available space). That should give you an idea of how massive you want the bench to be. Pay CLOSE ATTENTION to how tall you make it. Mine, sized for my height and the Dillon press, is 43 1/2" tall. That's a lot taller than a workbench would normally be ... but not an inch too tall for how I use it. Sections of bowling alley can be hard to come by. Try two layers (or even 3!) of 1/2" plywood, glued together. As long as you work near the edges (that's where the presses will mount) and brace it beneath adequately, it should be sufficient. I'm 64. At this point, I buy / build everything with an eye to what my grandchildren would like to inherit.

I had to collect myself before posting this comment. That shelf of powder was among the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

I had to cut my inventory to only 20 lbs of powder. I had to pay a premium for my powder. I am not going through not being able to buy powder for reloading. I was paying 3 times the money to find powder. Good shooting my friend.

reloading goals. very nice. I reload on a Lee single stage in my kitchen. my press and powder hopper are nailed to a 2x4 which is then C-clamped onto my counter top. This set up you got is freaking nuts
