I think we can’t expect to maintain this control against top opponents but against poor quality team I think we have no excuse not to. Instead of nervy 1-0 against mid table teams we should really be winning confortably

I'm gonna be honest about Haaland. There might be some merit to when people question whether we're suited for his style of playing ***HEAR ME OUT***. City loves control and a slow build up and Haaland thrives off of direct and end-to-end football. Last season worked for both because we still played like City but the trade off was that players (mainly Kevin) consistently tried to find him and assist him - they could do this as well as they did because the team was in mint form for the most part. This season is a different story mainly because of our midfield being below par for most of the season, which amongst other things (defense, control, etc) has affected chance creation. Keeping in mind that Kev, his main chance creator was out for 5 months. No one is more affected by that than Haaland. He makes runs way way more than he is found and put on through ball by the other players. His stats this season say that he has an astronomically high BCM but they don't gauge the quality of those chances and 8/10 of them have been scraps. As much as we say his mentality is insane (which it is and I'm sure he'll bounce back, he always does) if I was on the pitch for 90+ minutes and only got like 2, 3 sub par chances a game I'd lose steam (Especially when most of the time my teammates would rather back pass than be bold and try a through ball to me). And yes we could argue that he should then drop deep and get involved but I'm pretty sure Pep has instructed him to largely stay in and around the box. Ultimately, more (quality) chances = more goals = Haaland going from strength to strength. BUT again, all this hangs on the core of our problems which is the lack of quality (until recently at least) in the midfield AND actually acknowledging that he is on the pitch and using him because he is a strong, fast, powerful meat shield with 6th sense level instincts, positioning and awareness. That's just my opinion.

This is excellent observation! Haaland is not suited for Man City sleep inducing control control game. This team is suited for players like Grealish and Kova.

Why do I like this formation? Doku Alvarez Foden Kovacic Rodri Stone Gvardiol Akanji Dias Walker Ederson If we control the centre, we’ll be unstoppable. This formation is also no slouch on the wings.

Doku Alvarez Foden could be too light weight for the last stages of CL, and I think that's Pep's ultimate ambition and what he's preparing for in the business end of this season.
