एक तेंदुए को हर दिन पेट भरने के लिए चार से छह किलोग्राम मांस चाहिए. शावकों को पालने वाली मादा को तो हर दिन इससे भी ज़्यादा मांस का इंतज़ाम करना पड़ता है. लेकिन जंगलों में न तो छोटे जंगली जानवर बचे हैं और ना ही इंसान ने वहाँ पानी छोड़ा है. ऐसे में तेंदुए क्या खाएँगे और क्या पिएँगे ?
यही वजह है कि बड़ी संख्या में तेंदुए इंसानी बस्तियों के क़रीब रहने लगे हैं. कभी वे मुंबई में तो कभी दिल्ली और हैदराबाद जैसे महानगरों में दिखते हैं. गाँवों में तो हालात और ख़राब हैं. वहाँ तेंदुए आए दिन इंसान से टकरा रहे हैं. सरकारी आँकड़ों के मुताबिक़ इंसान के साथ टकराव के चलते बीते 10 साल में 5,000 से ज़्यादा तेंदुए मारे जा चुके हैं. गाँवों में रहने वाले लोग भी इस संघर्ष की बहुत ज़्यादा क़ीमत चुका रहे हैं. उत्तराखंड जैसे राज्य में तेंदुए हर साल दर्जनों बच्चों को अपना निवाला बना लेते हैं. उत्तराखंड में पाए जाने वाले तेंदुए को गुलदार भी कहा जाता है.
इस वीडियो में मशहूर शिकारी और संरक्षक लखपत सिंह रावत बता रहे हैं कि जंगलों और तेंदुओं की क्या हालत है. लखपत सिंह रावत दुनिया भर में सबसे ज़्यादा नरभक्षी तेंदुओं और बाघों को मार चुके हैं. वे जंगलों और बड़ी बिल्लियों को बहुत अच्छी तरह जानते हैं.

As being a uttarakhandi I hope you are also aware of the issues uttarakhand faces each year either naturally or man-made. I appreciate the way you do research, explain and present that matter. I wish you could make some videos on the major problem the hill area of uttarakhand is facing in last few years i.e. cloud brushing. Which is very much frequently happening and causing lot's of loss to humans and nature also.
