My mum was 7 months pregnant in the middle of a Canadian winter storm, 70 odd years ago. Her first husband had man flu and insisted homemade soup so my mum was trudging to get to the shop for the ingredients, she slipped on ice twice( baby got turned around, terrible breach birth), husband had not sympathy. I recall telling my doctor that “I couldn’t even lift my head off the pillow” when describing a dose of flu to get a sick note for work. It was really scary. She said, “Now you know what real flu is like”. Made me understand how people can die from flu. Went out next day to get new landline phone so I could have one always at bedside as well as in living room (mobile could get left out of reach). PS. I have a scientific theory: smaller body, smaller effect. I've had torn muscles, kidney stones, root canal with ineffective anesthetics, there is just a degree of discomfort where it feels all the same, because there are no varying degrees of incapacitation. Man's flu is harsh, when woman contract it they only contract it at 20% strength. Not sure about the science but our Y chromosome is a multiplier by 5 when it comes to colds, flus and other ailments. This is FACT. Stay strong my friend. Couple more weeks and you'll be back to full strength maybe.
