I once accidentally showed up way too early to meet my friends for lunch at a restaurant by our mall, so I decided to see a movie to pass the time. It was early afternoon on a Tuesday, so I was the only person seeing the movie, some horror movie. I'm sitting there chilling, I have the whole theater to myself and somehow I still managed to locate and sit in the seat I MYSELF HAD CHOSEN when buying my ticket - this asshole CHOSE his seat, if this was an AMC. I was about an hour into the movie when a strange man walked right into the empty theater and sat down directly beside me. It was dark and I was alone and I started feeling scared, so I went to find an employee and explained that the man hadn't done anything wrong, it was just really WEIRD that he'd walked into an empty theater showing a movie that had started an hour ago and sat down right next to the ONE other person sitting alone in a huge, empty theater. The employee went to speak to him, he hadn't even bought a ticket, but when the employee said they needed to call mall security he absolutely lost his shit and started screaming and flailing, and they called the cops who found zip ties and a screwdriver in his pockets before taking my statement. Those theater employees definitely saved my life, I hope this asshole loses his job and everything else he loves. It's the only way entitled people will learn.

As someone who works in a cinema, this happens constantly. People who come in just seem to get annoyed at the most trivial stuff and like to take it out on the staff. We have had so many members of staff in tears because of entitled customers feeling the need to shout at workers over something as trivial as not sitting in the right seat. It’s ridiculously common.

For movies that have been out for a while there’s at most 10 people for 100 chairs For a brand new, really popular movie on the first couple of days is about 50 people to 100 chairs. As a former movie theater usher, I've never had to deal with this on the floor. The worst I've probably had to deal with was someone who refused to turn off their phone, and I had them removed without much of a struggle. Concessions, on the other hand, was the absolute fucking worst. God help any poor soul scheduled for concessions, especially during the weekends of a blockbuster release like a Marvel or Disney movie. Some of the worst, most deplorable, rude, and entitled people you'll ever encounter at the movies. One time, I was working concessions on opening weekend of Avengers Endgame, biggest and busiest weekend I had ever worked since Infinity War. I was ringing this guy up, and I forgot to add his purchase to his rewards account so he'll get points. Now the guy was very understanding, shit happens, but his girlfriend went off on me. I tried explaining that they could take their receipt and have the points added at guest services, but she just started screaming and calling me an retarded asshole (yes, really). Now keep in mind, this was opening weekend of Avengers Endgame, and I had already seen the movie at an employee screening. When their food was ready, I had to deliver it to the girlfriend because her man was using the restroom. I said "Enjoy your meal, and enjoy your show. Especially when Iron Man dies." Remember to always respect your local movie theater staff. Because we watch your favorite movies before you do, and we will spoil the fuck out of it.

I was working for a local theater chain at the time and usually we would have employee screenings at midnight the night before they would premiere to the public. If you work at a more corporate location like Regal or AMC, employee screenings are very rare.

I've worked in a cinema for 17 years and luckily we haven't had too many issues like this. Some of the times we have had it were annoying like this but were resolved pretty quickly. Gotta love the "I'm never coming back here" line since it's usually said by assholes - it's all good my guy go to our competition and be their problem. I've heard that line, "I wanna speak to the manager", and other similar things over the dumbest shit.

@@spandexter1234 Was an attendant for just over a year before becoming a supervisor. Nowadays I'm a supervisor/projectionist, with a sprinkling of doing maintenance stuff.
